Speedometer stopped working on our 2005 Chevy suburban. Started out going from 20 to 100 and not registering the proper speed. Now is stuck at 120 MPH. Cost ranges from 300 to 1000 dollars to fix. Having to use GPS for speed which is a distraction and safety concern. *tr

My 2005 Chevrolet suburban has 79,985 miles and this week while driving route 95 (70 MPH highway in the south) from new jersey to south carolina my speedometer started showing a much higher speed then I was traveling. I was using my GPS at the time and it said I was doing 69 MPH while my gauge showed a constant climb till it reached 120 MPH and flat lined beyond that point. This was a 1600 mile round trip and if I had not had my GPS with me I would not know how fast or slow I was going. I was waiting for something else to go wrong. While in south carolina I went to recalls on the internet with 2005 gm SUV's and found a whole bunch of similar complaints, yet gm (Chevrolet) has not done anything that I could find. I returned home today and called my local Chevrolet dealer and exp
The speedometer on my 2005 Chevy tahoe has been acting erratically. Sometimes it will work normally. Other times, it will not register at all. Additionally time it will read erroneously when driving traffic speeds. The selection process did not allow me to register a tahoe, only a suburban, which is why the vehicle information looks as it does. *tr
At 99k miles the speedometer started acting erratic. There are times it is correct and times when it reads 5 to 25 miles more than my traveling speed. It is definitely hit or miss as to when this will occur. Now the oil pressure gauge and the RPM gauge are acting faulty as well. I have not taken any measures to correct the speedometer but it will reset itself after several times of turning the car on an off. This is definitely a safety hazard when the speedometer reads errantly while driving on the interstate. *tr
Speedometer operates erratically, sticks when changing speeds, or reads erroneously (e.g. 5 MPH on the freeway doing 70 or 100 MPH when parked). *tr
Speedometer on our 2005 surburban has been malfunctioning like all others reported on this site - ours for well over two years: sometimes reads zero when driving at highway speeds, other times is tacked at over 120 MPH. We can be at a stop and it reads 90. Afraid to use cruise control - who knows what will happen! Waiting for NHTSA to demand a recall these vehicles: what will it take? Someone dying because they hydroplane, or roll, or rear end someone because they have no clue how fast they are going? *tr
I have a complaint about there not being a recall on my 2005 Chevy suburban on the instrument panel and electrical components. Sometime earlier this year my speedometer started jumping to higher speeds as I was driving and then got to the point it was going all the way past 120mph. Sometimes it would reset to 0 after the vehicle was turned off. Most recently it has gone past 120 and will not return to the normal functions it should have. It is very dangerous not to know how fast you are going, however, like everyone else I cannot afford the $400-$600 to pay for something that is a manufactures defect obviously! With so many complaints listed exactly the same on this site, it has to be a manufactures defect. Besides the speedometer not working properly, all the instrument lights are startin
On august 3rd, 2012 my 2005 Chevrolet suburban 1500 first showed signs of the instrument panel cluster failing. The tachometer showed a reading of 5,000 rpms with the engine idling. This continued for a few days and then seemed to go back to normal. About a week later the speedometer began to indicate incorrect readings. By september 6th, 2012 I had noticed it would sometimes show a speed of 120 MPH while going an actual speed 50 MPH or sometimes show 29 MPH while going 50 MPH. For a while it was moving the needle below 0mph. I can no longer rely on the gauges of this vehicle with only 65,000 miles on it. *tr
I have a Chevy suburban 2005 my speedometer has stopped working. I also have a 2005 duramax that this has happened to. I would like to see a full blown recall placed on all GMC/Chevy vehicles. Apparently these are hundreds of thousands people with this issue across the u.s./ world according to forums I have been on. While there is a class action lawsuit out there for a very limited group of GMC vehicles, making lawyers rich. Instead of taking care of the people whom make this world actually run. This issue needs to seriously looked into. My next step is to get the media involved showing how again the average consumer can get screwed by the big companies. I am not keeping my mouth shut about this. Thank you *tr
While driving the speedometer jumped to 20 MPH and never dropped back down. *tr
We own a 2005 Chevy suburban, and the speedometer began to jump around and act erratically. It now shows about 60 MPH, even though the vehicle is at a stop. Goes up above 120 MPH while driving through town. We called the dealership, and just like others reported, was told we were going to be taken for over $600 for a repair that is occurring in virtually every 2005 gm truck (along with other years). We can no longer tell what speed we are driving, which is a serious safety hazard, especially for my teenage drivers that drive this vehicle. *tr
Speedometer does not work on my 2005 Chevrolet suburban 1500. Stopped working at about 60,000 miles - there should be a recall as this is a common problem on this vehicle and it costs approx. $500 to fix and it is a safety hazard. *tr

The driver and passenger's side mirrors failed. The objects appeared far away than normal. This caused poor visibility. The vehicle had a tow mirror package. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that this was a design flaw from the manufacturer. The mechanic informed the consumer that the mirror could be replaced, but the driver had to pay for it. *ak the four wheel drive light had come on. *sc
While driving into work the rear end housing exploded and the drive shaft dropped to pieces both flew all over the highway some coming out red hot. *jb
fuel system 1 complaint shown
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that when she walked around the vehicle he smelled gasoline and couldn't tell where it was coming from, but noticed that there was a leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the odor came from a fracture in the fuel lines. The mechanic advised the contact to leave his vehicle because driving the vehicle was causing the fuel lines to rub together. The fuel lines were repaired from the front and rear of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Updated 5/2/11 *cn updated 05/16/11

engine 1 complaint shown
My 2005 k1500 suburban sustained a cracked head with 73,000 on the engine. The service department at my dealership has no information that a manufacturing problem exists. The repair cost over $2,000. This is not a normal occurrence or expected vehicle wear. *tr
airbags 1 complaint shown
One morning came out to start my 2005 suburban and the service airbag message popped on along with the airbag light. Took it to my service center and was told it was a front impact sensor. Was also told this is a common problem on these vehicles. After doing some research online I have found this to be a very common problem rendering the airbag system inop. I believe gm needs to step up and fix the issue with the sensors as not everyone has $400 to fix a faulty sensor. The odometer on my suburban is 127,000 miles, so by no means driven hard.
tires 1 complaint shown
While driving our 2005 suburban on the interstate, the check tire pressure indicator came on and immediately the back end became squirrelly. Pulling to the side of the road, the passenger side rear tire was completely blown at the sidewall. The tread caught onto the wheel well flare, causing about $500 in damage to the vehicle. The tire was original equipment on the suburban, a p265/70r16 firestone wilderness radial. The VIN number on the suburban is [xxx]. The tires had about 12,000 miles of usage when the blowout happened. I contacted gm (service request claim #[xxx]) and had the service manager at john seretti Chevrolet in moon, pa inspect the tire. He could find no punctures, foreign objects or other evidence of external damage to the tire. Gm reviewed this and informed me that th
steering 1 complaint shown
The events leading up to the failure was normal vehicle operation for approximately one year. The failure to the vehicle was a vibration in the steering shaft. Consequences could have resulted in a loss of steering. Chevrolet service lubed the steering shaft per a gm service bulletin. This repair was covered under warranty. Approximately one year later, the same failure occurred. Chevrolet service stated that gm has developed a new steering shaft to eliminate this problem. I will be taking my vehicle in for repair 3 days from this writing. Chevrolet suggested this complaint as a method of obtaining a recall and subsequently a reimbursement for the repair. *tr
