5,606 complaints across 813 vehicles in the tires category. Most tire complaints in NHTSA's database aren't about tire failure exactly — they're about tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) failures, premature wear patterns suggesting suspension or alignment problems, and the occasional tire that delaminates or fails catastrophically. Some specific vehicles show up here because of original-equipment tire problems where the manufacturer specified a tire that didn't match the vehicle's needs. Honda Pilot original tires, Subaru Outback original tires, Tesla Model 3 original tires — all have well-documented "the OE rubber is junk" complaint patterns. Doesn't mean the cars are bad. Means the tire spec was wrong and most owners replace them earlier than expected. TPMS sensor failures are increasingly common too. The sensors have a battery life of about 5-7 years, then they die and the dash light comes on. Replacement is $50-$120 per sensor plus mount-and-balance. Annoying but not a vehicle problem.

Most tire complaints aren't really "tire" problems — they're original-equipment spec problems or TPMS sensor end-of-life. Replace the OE tires with something better when they wear out and most of these patterns disappear.
