I received a safety recall notice (14v-354) in the mail in december of 2014. This notice pertained to my 2005 Dodge dakota and the possibility that it contained faulty airbag inflators. On this same date I contacted cutter Dodge in honolulu, hi to schedule a service appointment - I made this appointment via their website (and provided full details of the recall, etc.), as well as over the telephone shortly thereafter. My appointment was scheduled/confirmed for the following week. I attempted to drop my vehicle off for this scheduled service but was informed that they did not have any of the necessary parts at the time, and would not until mid-january (at which time they anticipate having only a limited supply). My concern is that I have been, and currently am, driving a potentially u

Since purchasing my 2005 Dodge dakota quad cab in feb. Of '05, I have noticed several times that the air bag light in the instrument cluster lights up indicating a problem with the system. I have taken the vehicle in to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer checked the "codes" and found nothing that indicated a circuit problem, so they done nothing to repair the vehicle. Two days after the service, the air bag light again came on. The dealer even said that the air bag system would not operate whenever the light is on. When the light comes on, it sometimes stays on 15 minutes, and typically anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes. I am very concerned that the system would fail in the event of a crash, endangering myself and my family. This is the primary family vehicle. *jb

2005 and early 2006 Dodge dakota's equipped with the 8.25 inch rear axle have a defective brake design. They utilize a single spring between the rear brake shoes which creates varying degrees of brake shuddering upon application. In addition many of these trucks are equipped with defective axles which contribute to the shuddering problem. In late 2005, Dodge issued a tsb to their dealers on how to correct these problems. This was soon superseded by tsb 05-002-006. I purchased a truck with both the defective brakes and defective axles in august of 2005. I was never notified of either tsb by Chrysler corporation. I now understand that since my vehicle is over one year old that I am responsible for much of the cost of repairing these factory defects to an important safety system. Dodge issued

My brakes locked up completely and my truck slid like it was on ice for 200ft before colliding with the car stopped at the intersection ahead. I have had numerous problems with the braking system and now it has caused an accident which the california law considers me at fault because I rear ended the car ahead of me. I think Chrysler is at fault because their anti lock breaks did not stop the brakes from locking at all now my truck is totaled and another persons car is damaged. *tr

Randomly, the 4 wheel drive will engage when not selected. So far this has only happened at low speed (in parking lots). I can tell it is engaged because I get wheel slippage while turning. After straightening the truck and shifting to neutral, the problem will be resolved. Additionally, the "service 4wd" light or "4lo" lights will illuminate while driving, but the transfer case does not appear to actually shift. No damage to drive train so far. Thirdly, the transfer case will shift while the truck is parked in the driveway, the ignition is off, and the key removed, with no-one in the vehicle. I can hear the shift motor trying to engage.

I took my 2005 dakota to repair shop because of clunking noise on front drivers side. Noise was heard when driving or rocking the truck when it was parked. Repair shop said lower ball joint completely failed and was riding on lower control arm instead of supported by ball joint. Upper ball joint was also bad. Passenger side upper ball joint worn out and lower ball joint boot was cracked. All tie rod ends also needed to be replaced.
