Just recently bought 05 Ford freestar van, 3 months ago in my driveway it refused to go forward, I parked it because I had something else to drive. Morning of december 30, 2019 my other automobile timing chain broke so I've been trying frantically to fix this van, I've replaced air cleaner sensor, throttle body sensor, and speed sensor. Nothing. I have reverse but no drive, engine seems to run fine. So I checked for recalls. I just don't know if manufacturer is still liable. 05 Ford freestar van, miles 211375, VIN#[xxx]. My name: [xxx] if you need anything else please let me know. I don't know how this process works. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving my Ford freestar I lost power I was able to pull over but the van would not move at that point. Could get the RPM's up but would not move. The place I took it to said it seems to be the transmission. I cannot afford this and it could have been a very dangerous situation had I been going faster. The van is still financed and I owe to much to even sell it. Can you please help me??? *tr

Traveling north on I-75 in michigan, our van lost all gears at 50-60 MPH with no warning or noise. By the grace of god, the van was in the right lane on a downhill stretch of road and we coasted to the shoulder. The engine would rev and there was power, but no gears. We were going skiing for the weekend and were about 2 1/2 hours away from home. We were able to get a wrecker (after sitting in the van for 1 1/2 hours with 2 younger children) and towed to the nearest dealership. After looking at the car, the service rep said the torque converter shaft was stripped and would be about $1700 to repair. We were fortunate that no one was hurt and other family members were traveling with us to take the children while we rode in the wrecker. This is defect is definitely a safety hazard! *

2005 Ford freestar - 2nd transmission failure. In march 2009 the transmission went out on our 2005 freestar. No warning, like all others with problems, it was like it was in neutral & would not go into gear. Service tech informed us that 2005 freestars have transmission issues/torque problems. Our warranty had expired, & we had to pay $3200 for new transmission. Complaint was filed with NHTSA. Thankfully, we purchased a warranty w/ the new transmission - because it has gone out again! Van has been sitting at Ford dealership for over two weeks now, waiting on Ford's approval to replace transmission for 2nd time, due to same problem. I don't understand why Ford will not address this issue, or at the very least, repair the transmissions that are failing at no cost. I strongly encourage every

In 2014 we bought a Ford freestar, found out later the torque conv. Was recalled and replaced. I took the van to Ford in our area and they flushed out the converter $185+ and that worked for a month or so and it did it again. Took it back to Ford and they kept it a week before they told me I needed a new transmission. I reported about this van before to steve kenner nvs-215kjs 12v-006 I believe that it is not just the torque converter that should have been recall but the transmission too.I had to pay alan jay Ford of wauchula, fl $4.000.00 for that transmission. This is just not right.! Ford said pay us the money here is a 3 year warranty and good bye. My van cost me $5300.00 and now I have $10,000. Into this vehicle which is not acceptable!!! I was driving at 65 MPH when the transmission failed on my 2005 Ford freestar. Resulted in a loss of control of the vehicle. There were no previous warning sighs such as grinding of the gears, slipping of the fears or loss of transmission fluid. Car acted as if it was in neutral through all gears. Subsequent investigation with a mechanic revealed a failure of the torque converter. *tr

Vehicle shut off while driving down a residential street, luckily in a 25mph zone. My wife was driving with my two children (infant and 3 year old). Vehicle would start in park, but as soon as a gear was engaged, it would stall. Dealer ended up replacing the TCM (transmission control module) stating that water "shorted" it out due to a faulty seal. The service manager himself stated that Ford will not honor the warranty on this part, even though there seem to be countless claims on the same issue, because the part was damaged by water, not as a fault of the part itself. They will also not take responsibility of the faulty seal. *tr

This vehicle has a continuing problem with the PCM shorting out due to water entering the wiring harness through the windshield wipers. Once the PCM short circuits the transmission does not function causing the car to loose its' motion. This occurs without warning and places the occupants of the vehicle at greater risk of being involved in an accident as the car simple ceases to work. The company has currently recalled this make and model to replace a defective torque converter. Although this seems to solve the problem initially, the long term problem of water seeping into the PCM will cause the transmission to fail time and time again. *tr

2005 Ford freestar transmission failed without warning. This van is a lemon. My 4 kids and I were driving, and transmission failed without warning. Had no previous problems with this van before this incident,,, Ford should have a recall for this problem as I know this is happening frequently to Ford owners. *tr

I was to the on us hwy 98 in lakeland fl when I approached the street light that turned red. When I stopped the caravan would not go into gears toward or reverse worked and I was in the middle of traffic very heavy and dangerous possision. Had to push of the road and wait for several hours before help arrived. Than I googled recalls and I seen that Ford made a recall on the make model and year of the caravan. I am not sure of how this possess works but the Ford company says that they will fix the issues with the torque converter.

Ford freestar 2005. The radio flashes phone and runs down the battery. It was replaced by Ford, still having the same problem. They don't know what is causing this. Next, transmission failed at 71,000. The torque converter came apart internally and sent metal through the transmission destroying it. When having the transmission replaced by Ford, they found that the drivers cv joint was bad. We changed the cv joint/ trans axle combo, it is now bad again. *ln

Drove through a puddle and the engine quit. Apparently, the water splashed the on board computer (PCM). I towed vehicle to the dealer and they implemented the Ford technical service bulletin (tsb) reference number(s): 06-14-10, vehicle worked fine until the fall of 2014. Now the vehicle won't start at all if it sits out in the rain. If it does the water gets into the PCM and prevents it from starting. Now it appears as though water is intruding somewhere else and it is confounding the PCM (engine computer) with more water / moisture. The car is now worthless to me and I will have to scrap it since it cannot operate in a normal midwestern climate. I surely do not want to spend another $1500 to $2500 to fix the problem only to find out it is temporary. This is simply a design flaw
