I own a 2005 Jeep wrangler. When filling up the vehicle with gasoline it often doesn't register the fact that the tank is full and the gas comes pouring out. The gas leaks onto me, my Jeep and the ground. This happens every time I fill my tank. I see this as a safety issue since it's bad to get gasoline on your body/clothing, it's also damaged the paint on my Jeep in that area and the spillage on the ground is not good for the environment and a danger for others as well. Nothing has been done to correct the failure. Chrysler claims they don't see it as a "safety hazard." of course, it is a safety hazard. There is a faulty part in the gas tank/gas tank assembly that some of us cannot afford to pay for out of pocket. In fact, why should we? It's a defect from the factory. This has bee

After having my Jeep for 3 1/2 years, every time I fill up my gas tank (no matter what gas station) the automatic shut off does not work on the pump and large amounts of gas spill out everywhere. It did not do this for the first 3 1/2 years of owning the vehicle. Numerous other people on the internet are experiencing the same issue and it's believed to be the roll over check valve in the tank being bad. Located here is just one 14 page discussion: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/gas-spilling-over-when-filling-872096/ if this is happening with this many people it could be a major fire and environmental hazard at a gas station. *tr
When filling the fuel tank on my 2005 Jeep wrangler, the tank 'spits' the fuel out of the filler neck as it nears the top. The problem started just recently. But the amount of fuel spilled is getting larger with each fill up. *tr
When I try to fill my tank using the autofill option on the fuel pump handle, the fuel doesn't shut off when the tank is full and will come splashing out in force. My solution thus far is to be aware of the gallon amount as I fuel the vehicle, then when it gets fairly close, I try to trickle the fuel in so as not to splash too much fuel out on to the ground or my pants and shoes. *kb
When filling the fuel tank with gas, the gas pump does not shut off when the tank is full. This causes overflow of gas from the tank. An internet search indicates that this is a common issue with Jeep wranglers. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 Jeep wrangler. The contact stated that the locking mechanism on the gas cap failed and she was unable to put fuel into her vehicle. The dealer replaced the gas cap, but the failure recurred a year later. As of december 28, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 16,000. Fuel spills when gas tank is full every time I fill up the Jeep. My father has this same problem also. *tr
Fuel spills over when filling gas in 2005 Jeep wrangler tj model. *tr
I traced a loud screeching noise to the oil pump drive assembly. As the engine warmed up the noise subsided but continues to occur.on line research shows this to be a common problem for the 05-06 wranglers due to a design change from 04 to 05 model years where a bushing at the top of the cam position sensor/oil pump drive that seizes due to lack of lubrication and causes the drive gear on the oil pump shaft to self destruct taking with it the camshaft drive gear which causes loss of oil pressure.Dodge issued the e05 mar 2005 campaign-engine oil pump drive gear/cam replacement. Letters were sent to dealers to replace the drive gears and cams damaged by this problem. The notification applies to the 4.0 l engine built from oct 20, 2004 to feb 1, 2005. My local Dodge dealer informed me that my
Just purchased this used Jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon about 2 1/2 months ago and everytime I fill the gas tank, fuel pukes back out the filler opening and runs down the side all over the ground before the gas pump can shut off. Seems really dangerous not to mention making a big, embarrassing mess. It does not matter where I refuel, happens at all gas stations. *tr
When filing gas tank, gas does not shut off before overfilling and causing a spillage on ground at gas pumps. Always runs out and is damaging paint around filler hole. *tr
When filling up my 2005 Jeep wrangler unlimited with fuel, instead of shutting off the filler nozzle, gasoline shoots out of the gas tank filler neck spilling gasoline all over the Jeep and the surrounding area. This happens everytime I refuel. *tr
No events leading up to failure, just happened one day. It happened to me around 75, 000 miles on my Jeep, and ever since. The problem is that when I put gas into my Jeep the tank isn't venting properly, which cause gas to gush out the filler opening after the pump has automatically turn off. It doesn't matter where or when I fill up, it will do it every time unless I pump the gas is really slow. Nothing has been done to correct the part. According to other Jeep wrangler owners they have been told by the dealer its a faulty roll valve inside the gas tank. Which requires the entire tank to be replaced. According to one dealer this is considered a normal wear item. Yet a faulty roll over valve sounds like a safety item to me. I have heard of people having this same problem with 30k miles on
When filling the gas tank the pump will stop pumping gas but the fuel will splash out of the fill port on my Jeep. There are many youtube vids showing this problem. Gas is expensive so I would like to know why this is happening. *tr
When filling the gas tank, the shutoff valve to prevent fuel overflow does not appear to work properly and the result is that fuel overflows from the filler neck and runs all over the vehicle and ground. This happens every time it's filled up regardless of how quickly or slowly I regulate the flow of fuel into the tank. *tr
Whenever the vehicle is filled completely with gas the gas pump will quit pumping fuel but 1/2 - 1 cup of fuel spills out every time after the fuel pump shuts off. *tr

When filling up with gas at california pumps, the nozzle keeps shutting off. It doesn't seem to matter how fast or slow I try to fill, what angle I turn the nozzle, or how deep I enter the nozzle, it keeps shutting off. It takes about 15 minutes to fill the tank, a few seconds at a time. *js
Fuel spills/sprays out of filler when refueling. Pump shut-off does not engage correctly. This happens every time vehicle is refueled and results in excess fuel spillage on vehicle and ground.
I had just bought an unlimited 2005 Jeep wrangler- the first time I stopped to get gas I found out very quickly that there is an overflow problem with these models. Everyone who is a Jeep owner knows about it and says there are some fixes, but they are lengthy. Everyone who isn't wonders why it hasn't been recalled and fixed. This is an ongoing problem that could pose a large hazard at gas stations. *tr

This specific part was recalled eleven or so years ago. Since that time, the same part has been replaced 6 times. One time requiring a total engine overhaul. Upon researching this part, I have found that there are many complaints with the failure of this same model year of Jeep wranglers and this part (oil pump drive). We have poured over $5000 into this vehicle due to this part and we still have a vehicle that does not run. I have called Jeep three times now and they have no advice for me or offer of assistance for this part. Engine locked up while driving down the highway. *tr
