Hello. How are you? I hope everything is going well for you. I am an owner of 2005 Mazda rx8. I was a faculty of one university at texas by 2016. However, I left usa last fall and currently settled down in korea. I also took my car (2005 Mazda rx8) from usa to korea. In terms of safety recall notices, I asked Mazda usa to solve two safety recall issues (Mazda recall #: 1017e—fuel tank leak as well as 9416e—takata recall) for my car. Unfortunately, there are no Mazda dealer shops in korea, so I asked to Mazda usa to send the parts via the mail to replace bad parts for my car. However, they rejected my requests and they said only Mazda (certified) mechanic should complete the repairs. I am wondering if I can solve these serious safety recall issues. Am I not a customer o
The passenger side air bag door, part number fey157k5x, has become brittle and is cracked where the airbag deploys. This creates a hazard as the brittle pieces of vinyl will become projectiles in the event of airbag deployment. This is clearly the fault of the manufacturer and should be remedied. *tr
Driver was backing out of a parking space when an extremely loud pop sounded resembling a backfire or the explosion of an aerosol can. After pulling back into the space, a further inspection of the noise revealed a malfunction with the rear passenger seat airbag. The door panel has been knocked askew resulting in a back door that will not open. The front seat passenger seat belt was jerked tight and remains completely locked up. Had a passenger been sitting in the front seat, the tightening of the belt upon the malfunction of the airbag would have resulted in injury. The other airbags are of great concern at this point because if there is another malfunction when the car is in motion on the road, serious injury would occur. The airbag indicator light continues to either blink or remain con

2005 Mazda rx8; excessive squeaking noise from clutch pedal upon engagement and disengagement and feels loose. *tr
I bought a used Mazda rx8 (2005 with about 60 thousand miles) with a manual transmission. After about 3 months of daily driving (no racing or hard shifting) my clutch pedal broke while approaching a red light. The bracket that holds the pedal in place broke due to its very thin metal design. Upon researching the issue online I have found that many rx-8 owners are having the same issue. I have installed a reinforced bracket at my own expense and still need to make some adjustments because it has unaligned the gears in the transmission. If this break would have occurred at any other time I believe it could easily result in serious injury or death. I spend a lot of time on the highway getting to school and I believe that at 65 MPH this break would have at least destroyed the transmission.
The clutch pedal assembly fails while driving when the 2004-2008 Mazda rx-8 reaches around 45,000 miles. When the pedal fails you may not be able to take the car out of gear or put it back into gear. This could cause an accident if it happens while driving at a high rate of speed. Luckily, when it happened to me I was leaving a stop sign about one block from my home. Many people on an rx-8 forum (rx8club.com), have had the same problem occur and it is typically near 45,000 miles. Mazda does not cover this problem under warranty and they have not issued a recall. *tr
I had my 2005 Mazda rx-8 towed to the dealership and was told that my clutch pedal assembly was broken and was making it difficult to drive and shift gears, I believe it's a safety hazard and is poor workmanship. I've heard that this is very common on rx-8's that aftermarket companies are producing clutch pedal reinforcement kits. You know it's really a problem when aftermarket companies address and flaw in a product. Especially when it's part of the clutch and safety of the car. And it's not even covered under warranty, which is horrible. Not only did they produce a flimsy product, but now I have to pay to have it fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Mazda rx-8. While driving various speeds, a fuel odor emitted through the vents of the vehicle. The fuel odor was all around the vehicle while parked and fuel leaked underneath the driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to kuhn Mazda (3934 w kennedy blvd, tampa, fl 33609, phone: (877) 225-9956), but was not diagnosed. The dealer stated that the fuel system needed to be taken down to find where the failure was coming from and there would be a fee. The vehicle was not repaired due to the diagnostic and repair fees. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v793000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 87,466.

The external oil lines and connection fittings for the rotory engine lubrication points and cooling have corroded away form road salt in minnesota. Driving causes engine oil to be sprayed on front wheel and brakes causing front brake failure and possible engine fire problems. The corrosion was so bad that each attempt to fix an oil leak ended up braking more corroded oil fittings off. The total repair in 2017 ended being over $1,000 dollars for just parts plus labor. Mazda has previously paid to fix all Mazda rx-8s sold to people in canada because of road salt corrosion failures of these same oil lines. Why doesn't the usa have consumer protection like canadian citizens have! I paid a repair shop by me $1,037.81 for the repairs. The mechanic lost about another $1,000 in after market fitti

I purchased a brand new set of potenza's on the dec 7. I had them mounted on in the afternoon dec 8. Went straight home 10 miles away. On dec 9, I noticed my car would swerve a bit I was entering the freeway, I spun out six or seven times at 45 MPH. When I pulled over I saw that I was driving on my rim, my tire on the right rear side wasn't on. I retrieved the tire. The tread and wall tore away from each other. Even though I did not hit anyone/anything from the spin out, my car, a 2005 model, is considered a total wreck from all the damages that resulted from the tire loss. *nm

I'm going in today for the third time because my ac continues to make a noise when the fan is blowing. I cant even begin to list all of the problems I've had with this car. Just to name a few I'm on my second engine, new brakes, battery and tires before 40k miles and I was told by three different shops that something is really wrong with the brakes but Mazda claims other wise. I've had a two new radiators and my driver window went out along with everything else from the visor falling off during the hot summer because it just melted. How does a "sun visor" melt. I've had the shifting paddles replaced because they just didn't work and I don't even really use them, the gas cap lock broke and I had to pry it open since the eject no longer worked... I think you get the point and I didn't eve

Most models of the 2005 rx-8 are equipped with HID headlights. In order to prevent accidents, the headlights have a "cutoff" that prevent blinding oncoming drivers, which I understand is required by law. The headlights on this vehicle have an autoleveling function which is supposed to level the headlights at the proper height dependent on the position of the car's suspension. The headlight levelers are controlled by two sensors, one on the drivers side front and one on the driver side rear wheel hub, connected to the suspension components. There is a known defect with these sensors which causes the headlight levelers to malfunction, aiming the headlights either too low (which can cause an accident in the rx-8) or too high (which can cause an accident by blinding oncoming traffic). Oil cooler metal hoses have corroded due to road salt and driving in snowy areas (massachusetts). There is a recall in canada (special service program 76) for the Mazda rx8 due to oil cooler lines getting corroded. Weather in the northern states of united states is similar - I don't know why that is also not a problem for us and there is no recall in the usa. The rest of the car seems corrosion free and the car was washed every week in the winter and about once a month in the summer, specifically to get rid of road salt. Dealer charge with parts and labor to replace the oil lines is $2100 !! Car has 68,000 miles on it and is a 2005 model. My guess is the oil cooler lines were made of a bad material if they are corroding so easily while nothing else corrodes. *tr
