Driving on i35 at 75 miles per hour with the cruise control engaged. I had been driving for approximately 2 hours. The car engine just started racing with no warning, I took the cruise off and had lost all ability to move forward or reverse. I had the entire family in the car. I am 800 miles from home and it will be 2 days for the fix. They estimate approximately $1800. The van is less than 3 years old and has 47,000 miles. This is hazardous and I can not believe that Ford does not recognize this as just doing and internet search on this these transmissions seem to fail around the 45k mark with no warning at all. I am currently stranded and hope that the fix will be done tomorrow. *tr

My wife was backing out of a parking space at her job. She then put the vehicle in gear and it would not move. The transmission quit working without warning. There were no warning lights or any sign of a problem prior to the incident. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the rpms went higher than normal. She was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road but could not steer or move after that. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed her that she needed to replace the transmission. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
Took the kids to the movies and drove around town for a good part of the day. About an hour after getting home I had to go to the store I got into the van and started the engine the RPM's went up to about 4k. I backed out of the driveway and put the van into drive. The RPM's went up again to about 4k again. After driving for about 20 feet the van lost power, then engine was still on but the van would not move. I stepped on the gas and the engine turned off. Per the Ford dealer it appears to be a transmission problem that is currently being investigated and might not be covered by my extended warranty. *tr
Re: 2005 mercury monterey transmission. As noted in other posts, my wife was traveling to work at 6:15 in the morning (dark), heard a strange sound and immediately the cars systems all stopped and she struggled to get it to the side of the road. Aaa towed the car to a well known a reputable repair service and they were able to very quickly diagnose a complete transmission failure. Estimated cost of the repair was $2500-3000. Dealer cost before discounts was $3795 down to $2217. Dealer, fiesta Lincoln mercury in mesa, az. Refuses to acknowledge that this is a known serious issue. Mileage on the vehicle is 40,292. As is so with many others, I am in no position to lay out that kind of money, so vehicle is sitting in our driveway. I understand that investigations like this can take som
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey and while drivign 60 MPH the transmission failed. The failure only happened once. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. The failure miles were 74382 and 75301 are the current miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the engine misfired and caused the vehicle to be jolted forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. After diagnosis, they advised him that water was entering the PCM and causing the failure. The vehicle was repaired by the PCM being resealed at the connector. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The current mileage was approximately 65,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My 2005 mercury monterey will 66,765 miles on it will not engage the transmission. You can put it in forward, reverse, or any other gear and it does not have the normal feel that any engagement happened. And when you let off the brake it does not move and when you give it some gas it does not move. It does not matter which gear it is in either. The car made it home with out any notice of the problem but the next day when I wanted to back out of the garage the transmission is totally gone. From research I know I'm going to hear that the torque converter output shaft splines are stripped causing a sudden loss of power to the drive-train. *tr *tr
Please add me to your already long list of people begging for a recall on the 2005 mercury monterey transmission issues. *tr
We were traveling normally when suddenly all motive force was lost. The engine ran normally, but vehicle would not proceed under power. It was as if the vehicle was in neutral. The vehicle would not proceed under any power either forward or reverse. There was absolutely no warning of the power train failure. *tr
2005 mercury monterey, transmission sudden failure while wife was driving the vehicle. The vehicle has 34,000 miles on it. Ford refused any repairs citing it was 8 months out of warranty. It would appear this is a very common problem for Ford and they have chosen to not address it for their customers. This does seem to be a significant safety risk although we were fortunate to be able to steer the vehicle into a safe place and then have it towed. *tr
Our 2005 mercury monterey's transmission stopped working as my wife and 4 kids were driving on a busy kansas city highway. She had vehicles behind her in front and to the side of her, now she was coasting on a 70mph highway trying to find a way to get to the shoulder with 2 kids crying and 2 yelling why are you stopping in the middle of the road. With cars swerving all around her, luckily she did make it. Now they are sitting in the van just barely off the highway for 2 hours with cars just feet away driving 70-80mph.I have to borrow another vehicle large enough to go get them, because we all can't fit in my truck. Now I'm parked behind them with flashers on trying to unload 4 kids and car seats ages 1 to 10, with cars driving by 70 to 80mph. I get them home safely. I have it towed to fo
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact stated that the service engine warning indicator illuminated while shifting from park into reverse. In addition, the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was unable to be driven. Rivertown Ford (1680 whittlesey rd, columbus, ga 31904, (706) 653-7420) indicated that the power train control module needed to be replaced and that the part would need to be ordered. In addition, it was stated that water intrusion caused the failure. The vehicle was not included in a warranty campaign. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign numbers: 06e056000 (fuel system, gasoline) and 12v006000 (power train) as possible causes of the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.
I was pulling out of a gas station driveway in my 2005 mercury monterey minivan onto a main two-way road. I did not have to punch the gas to merge into traffic, it wasn't busy. As I accelerated across one lane of traffic and a turn lane, my vehicle lost forward motion. The engine functioned properly -- no safety or warning lights came on -- and I heard no thunk, clunk, grinding or other noise as I coasted to a stop in the turn lane. I shifted the vehicle numerous times into various gears (r, d, 3 and 1) but still the minivan would not move. I turned the engine off and on, tried again, but no movement. Again, I tried in all the gears, but the vehicle would not move. I repeated this a second time with no success in getting the vehicle to shift into any gear. Stuck, I called a tow truck and h
While driving on a busy road I started to lose power and could not go over 30 MPH. I coasted home and had to call a tow to the dealership, williamsburg Ford. The dealer confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. There had been a recall on this vehicle in 2012 for the torque converter which was replaced by the previous owner. However, it is obvious that the damage was already done and the transmission went out at 70000 miles which should not happen on any car. I sent you an email previously on this issue and have not heard back. I called Ford and they said they wouldn't do anything about it. This is not right and something should be done. They should stand behind their product when it comes to safety.
At 105000 miles the transmission on my 2005 mercury monterey van quit on I-80 cruising at 70mph...for no reason the vehicle lost power and would not accelerate...had to be towed to shop and am told $3000 in repairs..Ford has known about this bad transmission for 5 years and nothing has been done....why??? I now discover that several hundred people have filed the same complaint and as many as 205,000 vehicles may have this problem which I understand is a possible bad torque converter shaft....I am really upset with Ford as this the 4th vehicle I have purchased from them with faulty transmissions.... *tr
On july 23th 2010, I was driving my 2005 mercury monterey up an incline then all of a sudden the vehicle went to a brief acceleration. I let go of the acceleration pedal , then went to accelerate again, I had no power. The engine would rev but it was not engaged to the transmission. Luckily I was a able to coast down the hill and pull off to a safe spot. I had the vehicle towed and was told the transmission had went. I had the Ford dealership install a new transmission in the vehicle. The vehicle had 55,000 miles on it. The vehicle before then showed no signs of transmission trouble. After further research I noticed there has been multiple complaints regarding the same issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 mercury monterey. The contact was driving approximately 40 MPH, and when the accelerator pedal was applied the transmission would not respond. The vehicle was towed to the residence where a certified mechanic inspected the vehicle. The failure was related to the torque converter. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000. Updated 01/31/11 *bf updated 03/16/11
While driving way back home from work the transmission failed all of sudden causing me stranded on the middle of highway during heavy rush traffic hours. End up spending $175.00 for towing and when called the next day to Ford dealer and mercury dealership was approximately $3500.00 to $4500.00. Repaired the transmission from other transmission shop spending $2500.00. *tr

The computer system in the van has malfunctioned in the exact same way twice. It says the rear sliding door is open when it is, in fact, closed. It also beeps for 60 seconds every time you stop and start going again. This has already been taken in and repaired twice. It is more than a hassle for us to get the van in to be repaired due to having infants and working a very strict schedule in the military... Which is why we bought a new vehicle. *jb
