The car is over winding and sounds like the transmission is slipping. There is a significant spike in the rpms before it shifts between gear to gear. It's only got 98k and it's meticulously maintained. It's been happening for about a thousand miles.

December 2007 - took car into Nissan dealer because transmission was hesitating and slamming hard into the "drive" gear. Dealer discovered transmission needed to be replaced. January 2008, I received my car back with a reman transmission from Nissan. February through may 2008 - took car into dealer a few more times due to issue with transmission again. October 2008 - returned car again to Nissan because issue with transmission was occurring more frequently. Told me it was due to (2) torn engine mounts. I replaced them by my own local mechanic. A few days after they were replaced, the transmission was acting up again. Took car back to my mechanic and he said the (2) rear engine mounts were cracked/torn. I ended up replacing those as well. One week later, the issue came back. October-nov
Transmission hard shift from park into drive. Seconds delay then bangs into gear.

When I open the door my window was full of sut and my windshield was cracked . When I open the car door on the driver side the dash board and under the dashboard wa
My car started jerking all of a sudden. I , took it to transmission shop and was told that it was my transmission going bad. I was told that it will cost me $3,000 or more to repair. I had only had the car for a year. I didn't realize this is an going issue until I started researching further into the history for the male and model of this car. Nissan needs to step up and own up to their defective cars. *tr

I have a transmission issue with my 2005 Nissan maxima. I bought this car in april 2009 with a little over 36k miles. As of december 28, 2009 my car has 56k miles. Car has really bad jerking motion up shifting and down shifting between 1st and 2nd gears every day. The transmission is slipping. Brought maxima to Nissan dealer ship who suggests to flush transmission and change motor mounts which seem to be a waste of money and not correcting the real problem. *tr

I own a 2005 Nissan maxima sl. At about 65000 miles I started to experience problems with my transmission. When changing the gear from park to drive the car would violently kick back and forth. The same would occur when ever the car transitioned between the 5 gears. I have researched this transmission problem online and have also surveyed many local mechanics. I have learned that this is a recurring problem with the 2005 year model. On websites such as "safecar.gov" there are over 300 complaints reported about the same exact issue. I took the car to my local Nissan dealer and they suggested that I contact Nissan headquarters to help find a solution. *tr
2005 Nissan maxima se, transmission problems. Sometimes shifts violently, when in reverse & jumps from 2 to 3 gear, almost like being rear ended, also revs up to 5 or 6 RPM on the tact without foot on pedal, and looses power. I took it to a Nissan dealer who told me I needed a new transmission for $4000.00 and because of the shifting the motor mounts also need replaced. One time the car will drive fine then the next all the problems are back. I have looked on several Nissan web sites for complaints on this car, there are hundreds of people with the exact 2005 Nissan maxima se transmission problem, why Nissan does not look into a recall on this car is unbelievable. There is no way several hundreds of people can be having the very same problem and it not being because of the car. Th
2005 Nissan maxima powertrain went out in 2007 and I replaced it and was told this is something that Nissan is aware but have not released a kit to fix it. It is dec 26, 2010 and the replacement transmission went out dec. 24, 2010. This car has had hard shifting and I have been told the mounts need to be replaced in response to the hard shifting just 3 weeks ago.! I am not fixing this car again. In 2007 I called Nissan and filed a complaint and nothing was done. The NHTSA has to get involved. The car stopped shifting while my little car was in the car with me on the road. We were almost slammed from behind but the driver behind me swerved in time. Please, please do make Nissan do something about this. I now have a 35,000 dollar piece of junk sitting in my driveway and I have to go
My transmission just failed for the second time after being replaced the first time by Nissan as it was under warranty. It was regularly flushed/ serviced. There is a major issue with the transmission itself and Nissan must do something about it.

My car starting jerking between 2nd and 3rd gears. I made an appt with my local Nissan dealer for a few days later and within those few days it progressed to severe bucking between gears and I no longer felt it was safe to drive, luckily the dealer isn't far from my house. I was told my transmission needed to be replaced and 3 engine mounts were cracked. Total cost $5200. I wasn't able to come up with that much money so they fixed the engine mounts and flushed and filled the transmission fluid to give me a little more time. It still jerks between 2nd and 3rd and will need to be replaced very soon, but this is a very expensive repair, $4,000!! It is also a known problem that Nissan should be paying for!! The forums are full of people having the same issue and there is a class action law sui
It has been proven and reported many times on the internet of the poor design of the secondary timing chains, tensioners, and guides for this particular model of Nissan. Owners of these vehicles have had to pay huge repair bills due to the defective timing chain tensioners that were placed in this vehicle when it was manufactured. They wear out prematurely and the engine has to be taken out of the car to replace the defective parts. This is inexcusable on the part of Nissan and the owners shouldn't have to pay these huge repair costs to replace a part that was defective in the first place. *tr

Failure in ABS, TCS, slip. Warning lights show after the occurring sound of grinding in the brakes. This is my second maxima, 2005 se and sl models have problems. Both cars have different odometer, one is below 100k and one is higher. This is ridiculous for a 30+k car. *tr
