Couple weeks ago my check engine light came on while I backing off my driveway. Then my battery died a week after so I thought the reason why my check engine light came on is because of my battery is running out of juice. So, I replace my battery but then the following day my check engine light came on again. That's when I went to my local auto shop and get my x get check. They told that is the error code p0463. *tr

1. Normal use of vehicle. City driving mostly. 2. Fuel gauge needle does not correctly show the amount of fuel after initially filling up the gas tank. After some minutes of driving, the needle correctly shows a full tank. Then after about 3/4 fuel level, the needle drops back to empty. Additionally, the digital gauge does not accurately compute fuel miles left and MPG. This behavior repeats each time the fuel tank is filled. Without these functions I am unable to determine how much fuel I have left in the tank. Leaving the possibility for being stranded somewhere, if I do not accurately guess at how much gas is left. 3. Nothing was done (yet) to correct the failure. A mechanic told me it the problem is probably caused by a malfunction fuel sending unit/sensor. I have also conf
I have a 2005 Nissan xterra. Earlier this week I fueled up the vehicle and continued home. I realized that my fuel gauge was reading only 3/4 of a tank. So, I went back up to the gas station and tried to finish filling the tank (on .57 cents). Every day since then, once I start the car the fuel gauge reads bad. This past monday the service engine soon light had come on. I then went out and purchased an OBD ii scanner to read the error code. It was p0463 (fuel level sensor a circuit high input). Did some research on the subject and found that it means that I have a faulty fuel sending unit. It seems to be a very common problem for 2005-2007 Nissan xterra. This is a safety issues. If my wife is driving my daughter back to nyc and the car runs out of fuel and they are stranded in the middle o
2005 Nissan xterra. Fuel gauge is erratic and reads incorrectly 90% of the time. From owner's forum discussions, this seems to be a defect in the fuel level sensor unit. *tr
Please help! My fuel sensor is failing. My service engine light is always on now and the repair for this is expensive. I received an extended warranty in the mail for 72,000 miles for this exact problem. I called Nissan directly because my mileage was past this and this is an extremely common failure in xterras and they said they could do nothing for me. There is a Nissan service bulletin ntb07-069b in existence, but not a recall. Since they wouldn't help me, my light was on long before I hit 72,000 miles, and this is such a common problem in these vehicles, I feel strongly that Nissan should issue a recall. I have high mileage on my car because my family lives 6 hours away and I drive to see them frequently. Is there any thing you can do to help me? Please? *tr
Check engine soon light illuminated. Gas gauge inaccurate. Gas light illuminated when plenty of gas is still in tank. Dte feature no longer shows numbers only dashes. Only 66,000 miles on vehicle. This problem started around 64,000 miles. *tr
Service engine light came on and fuel gauge completely unreliable. Fuel gauge would read empty with full fuel and then change to various readings. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Nissan xterra. The contact stated that he heard knocking coming from under the hood while driving approximately 30 MPH. The contact also stated that the temperature gauge would display that the vehicle was overheating. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they were unable to diagnose a failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
My 2005 xterra with 82k miles started vibrating badly when accelerating over 50mph. It felt like I was driving over rumble strips. I called Nissan assist on 12/29/2010 and was told my radiator had failed, leaked into the transmission and totally destroyed it. My only option was a $4600 replacement of the radiator and transmission. The Nissan assist guy then told me that Nissan knew about the problem, but instead of issuing a recall, they simply extended the warranty from 60k to 72k miles (this was an error on his part, because the extension was actually to 80k miles). Regardless, it didn't apply to me because I was at 82k miles. Nissan is trying to ease the pain with extending the warranty however, they make no attempt to contact you about it. You either need to find it yourself or your s
3 months after purchasing vehicle I noticed that the car would squeal for 5-10 minutes when 1st starting, it did not matter if it was in the morning or mid-afternoon. I took the truck into the dealer and the drive belt was replaced. About 2,000 miles later the problem re-occurred, I took the truck back to the dealer and this time the auto tension pulley was replaced. About 1,000 miles later the truck was once again taken back and this time the lead tech assured me the problem would be fixed and the drive belt was replaced for a 2nd time. I have now had this truck for 9 months and again had to take in, this time I dealt with the service manager who was not helpful. They once again replaced the drive belt and stated this was a known Nissan problem and that the problem will present itsel
Beginning summer 2010 2005 Nissan xterra (purchased new in 2005) began making rumbling noise (as if going over rumble strips) while driving. Incident occurred frequently at differing speeds for the next several months. No other problems were evident at that time. In november 2010 while driving on freeway vehicle began overheating, blowing hot air through air conditioner, and registering hot on gauge. Vehicle was immediately taken to local mechanic who was unable to determine problem. The next day vehicle was taken to dealership where car was purchased and told that the transmission needed to be replaced due to radiator fluid leak. After research and finding that this is a common occurrence the owner decided not to have the vehicle fixed at her expense and is not driving the vehicle
Vehicle failed during operation without warning secondary to faulty original radiator which leaked coolant into the transmission. Transmission and radiator destroyed and require replacing. Despite extensive documentation of this problem on consumer websites and a class action lawsuit, Nissan america and dealership denied any knowledge of this problem and did not accept any financial responsibility. Total repairs estimated at $5,000. Notifying consumer of and/or replacing faulty radiator could prevent a costly destroyed transmission. *tr
Coolant leaked into the transmission, causing transmission failure. Estimate of $5800 to repair. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Nissan xterra. The contact was driving 20 MPH when the vehicle started to jerk violently and there was an abnormal increase in engine rpms before shifting into gear. The contact also mentioned that the air bag warning lamp was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the radiator and transmission fluids had mixed erroneously and both the transmission and the radiator would need to be replaced. In addition, the belt tension sensor would also need to be replaced in order to repair the air bag system. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to waive the fee of diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 87,000.
Radiator defect causing atf fluid to contaminate the transmission, leading to transmission failure, with extensive repairs, and extreme associated costs. This commonly known defect causes transmission to fail while driving, which can be a serious safety issue, and necessitates a full recall!
I have a 2005 Nissan xterra and I'm having a problem with the transmission I place it in gear and heard a pop and then the vehicle did not want to go anywhere. After doing some research I have come to the conclusion that there are many others having the same problem. If Nissan knows this is a problem they should be held responsible for repairs no matter what the mileage is on the vehicle. I will not be buying another Nissan if they don't want to stand behind there products. A couple of years ago the fuel sending unit went bad and it cost me 1200.00 dollars to have it fixed and it was also a known problem. *tr
While driving down a steep hill, I turned off the overdrive and the dashboard display showed the vehicle had shifted into 4th gear but in fact is was still in od (5th) gear. Upon activating the button to shift back to od, the vehicle now shifted down into 3rd gear but displayed that it was in od (5th) gear. I live in the san bernardino mountains of southern california and I need to downshift to slow the vehicle when going downhill and to avoid overheating the brakes with a possibility of brake failure. I have visited two different Nissan dealers on a total of four occasions to resolve the problem and they tell me that is the way the vehicle functions and there is nothing that can be done to fix it. Although I thought I was buying a vehicle with five gears, in fact when going down hill it d
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Nissan xterra. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the vehicles speed decreased without warning. The vehicle was restarted and failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the radiator failed causing the transmission to fail. As a result, the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000. The VIN was unavailable.
lighting 1 complaint shown
The license plate lights on the 2005 & 2006 xterra are known to crack and melt causing failures. Replacing the bulb will not last due to the cracked housings. Nissan is no longer producing these lights. The lights were redesigned for 2007. In order to use the new style lights, you have to replace the rear bumper for the lights to fit. The rear bumper costs $683.20 for the part alone. The lighting is $40.20. You would have spend close to $1000 in parts and labor for working license plate lights that are factory. These costs are unacceptable to keep a vehicle in compliance.. *tr
