In my Toyota sienna 2005 van, the liftgate would go up and then suddenly drop about a foot and then continue to close. This happens in the winter more than in the summer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Toyota sienna. The contact stated that the dashboard was fractured in several areas and ranged in size from approximately 8-9 inches in length. The contact was concerned with the safety of the air bags and was concerned of unintentional deployment or if they would deploy at all in the event of a crash. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 32,500.

My 2005 Toyota sienna's rear door liftgate strut was failed and it's not open the rear gate fully and door close unexpectedly. This cause some minor injuries for my family members including my 3yrs old son I went to dealer to report this problem but the dealer has no idea about any recall or tsb information for this. The dealer just suggested me over $500 to replace the strut. *tr

We have had several door problems with our 2005 sienna xle limited (less than 30,000 miles). Sliding doors routinely freeze shut. Have to climb through front doors. Sliders have also frozen open slightly--forcing us to drive with doors unlocked & ajar with our children in the car. Now the automatic passenger sliding door no longer functions. This is a common known issue--cable snaps. Cost is estimated at $1800. Our children now use the driver side sliding door which is typically street side & extremely unsafe. Or they climb in through front. Can't climb in through back because rear liftgate closes at will. Rear liftgate was replaced prior to recall & now needs repair again. Slams down without warning--usually hitting us in the head or back. *tr

The power liftgate started to randomly close. It closed on myself and my child while we were unloading the trunk area of the minivan. It caused some discomfort as it was quite heavy. One time it automatically reopened when it hit my body but 3 other times it did not and I had to jump out of the way. I have had to take the power control off and open it manually - even now it will shut on me but with the power disengaged I can hold it open. It is a heavy door and could easily cause some injury. I have tested it using the remote and it is still malfunctioning. I indicated injury below as I was hit with it and my son banged his head though it was all minor. *tr

The tailgate fails to stay open either immediately or randomly closes without warning. The van had the 2008 recall performed and now the replacement part has completely failed. The part number for the replacement is 04008011ae. *tr

Automatic sliding door will not close. The cable mechanism appears to be broken. I can't use the door until it is repaired. I took the van in for service with the warranty enhancement letter in 2013 and was told no repairs were needed. Now that the door is broken, Toyota is saying the warranty has expired and I must pay for repairs. When asked why they didn't change out the faulty parts - csd said the door is not a safety issue! I see hundreds of posts for similar problem. Why isn't the sliding door being recalled?

Toyota sienna 2005 developed two major problems about 6 years and 40,000 miles on it (right after warranty runs out). 1. Passenger side front airbag malfunction resulting in airbag lights being on. Dealer is quoting $700 dollars. More importantly, the fact that this important life saving device malfunctioning at just 6 years and right after warranty runs out. Several other people have had exact same issue as evidenced by discussions in consumer forums on the internet. 2. Driver side door makes loud popping noise while opening and closing. Dealer confirmed that the welds in the driver hinges have broken. Cost to repair (replace door !!) is $2400. Toyota customer experience center claimed that a notification about this issue was mailed out, which I have never received. They extended t

SRS warning light flashing, taken to the dealer to be informed of the b0111 code and told that both front side airbag harnesses are recommended to be replaced by a Toyota service memo, though the b0111 is specifically indicative of a faulty right front harness fault. Could the number of complaints be low due to the fact that this fault comes up earlier on most vehicles and they are covered by their warranty and thus not a concern? *kb

I own a 2005 Toyota sienna with only 43,000 miles, and the passenger air bag light is on all the time, it doesn't matter if someone is sitting in the seat. Today I took my van to the dealership to have the spare tire chain replaced, another Toyota recall, and asked them to check out the passenger air bag light. I was told the air bag and wiring harness needed to be replaced at a cost of $2148. I was very surprised when I was told this. I bought the van new; and the air bags have never been deployed. This doesn't sound like something that should need to be replaced as regular maintenance. I have never heard of someone having to replace their air bags and wiring when they haven't been in an accident. I'm concerned for the safety of my family, will the air bags still work or do I have n

2005 sienna xle model. The passenger side automatic sliding door's latch does not lock and will close on slight incline. Myself, my wife and one of my kids has experience the door close on us unexpectedly. This is a potentially serious safety issue if the car is parked on a steep incline facing down. The car has been in the dealer for over a week and so far, they have tried to replace the motor, the latch to no avail. I think there is a design flaw somewhere in the door that causes this to happen. Strangely, the problem does not exists on the driver's side sliding door. It's unknown if the problem is caused by repeated use or not. *tr

Toyota recently recalled the power sliding door cables for certain Toyota sienna years. The broken cable inhibits the door from working correctly. Ours, a 2005 sienna, was taken in and it turned out to be the power sliding door actuator. Five days ago, the other sliding door actuator failed. Both doors cannot be opening correctly and poses a serious danger to the safety of our 2 young children. Toyota fails to recognize all of the complaints about failing actuators that are posted online. They are charging $1,100 to fix each door. There should be a safety recall because of the actuator failures. Thank you. *tr

2005 sienna was driven to a parking garage and parked for two hours. Upon returning to the sienna and starting the engine, three lights came on; check engine, vsc, and trac off. Drove vehicle home (150 miles), the 3 lights remained on as well as loss of cruise control and an intermittent compass display. Took vehicle in for inspection at a local Toyota dealer and was told the skid control unit ECU needed to be replaced. I found out there are other complaints and a technical service bulletin on the 2005 sienna vehicle stability control (also called electronic stability control) system that has caused injuries. Even more remarkable, my 2005 sienna has only 62k miles and in that time there has been 2 other incidences with the same symptoms. Why has there not been a recall if there are already

Under Toyota's customer support program, a technical service bulletin was put out saying that 2005 Toyota siennas had faulty radiators that cracked in cold weather and could lead to coolant leakage and subsequent engine seizure (safety report #0506). When the weather started getting cold this winter, my radiator cracked and I needed to be repaired as the engine was running extremely hot. When I found this bulletin and brought it to Toyota's attention they refused to honor it saying that my VIN number was not in the range. When I asked why this was the case, they claimed (they being Toyota's national headquarters) that they had realized the fault and therefore switched the radiators out during production. Upon closer examination, the bulletin was announced by Toyota on january 30, 2006. I
