Heater shorted out causing an electrical fire. Fire engulfed the whole front of the car into the front seat. The vehicle was moving down the interstate. We had the heat on setting 4. Smelled like something was burning. Turned off the heater. White smoke started coming out of vents. Decided to get off at next exit and get it looked at. Pulled into parking lot, black smoke started pouring out of the vents. Within a min. Or two the front of the car was engulfed in flames.

Service air bag and service 4 wheel drive light always comes on. I know their has been a recall with this model recall # 06102 on the air bags, but this VIN number doesn't come up. U-tube shows a common problem with the spring in the transfer case about service 4wd. See recall # 06v4170000 & 1233...updated 04/12/16 *bf
I have a 2006 Chevrolet tahoe ls 4wd I bought brand new may 2006. I have had it in the shop 3 or 4 times because it keeps clanking/clunking loudly when I slow down or stop. It clanks when I go over a bump. If I'm driving down the road at 40mph+ and slow down to 20mph or less, then the tahoe clunks loud enough people on the street can hear it. The dealership(s) can not find the problem (one dealership had the nerve to tell me it was my 3rd row seat). It sounds as though a wheel is going to fall off or the transmission is going to drop. The last dealership replaced the hub assembly on one of the wheels, but that didn't help...still clunk, clank. I can't tell if the noise is coming from the back for sure, but it sounds like it. My warranty is about expire and I'm afraid this is going to be a
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated the "service 4-wheel drive" warning message illuminated on the contact's instrumental panel. The contact repaired the selector switch for the four-wheel drive however, the contact stated that while later driving 75 MPH, the vehicle independently switched from 2 -low to 4 -high. The stability track then became disabled and the rear of the vehicle began to sway abnormally. The contact took the vehicle to three independent mechanics for diagnostic testing. All of the mechanics stated that the transfer case or transfer box would need to be repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000.

The rear hatch door actuator when not working properly will not allow the window or the rear hatch door to unlock. This is a hazard in case of an auto accident. *tr
2006 tahoe rear liftgate will not unlock, nor will window open. It doesn't make any noise. There is no key hole to open manually. My grandchildren often ride in the rear seats, and they would be trapped in a collision. There is no inside handle, either. My sister-in-law has an identical model in which this has also happened. Gm should in our estimation, recall and fix this problem. The most efficient fix would be to have key access to unlock. *tr
2006 Chevrolet tahoe liftgate lock actuator quit working at around 67000 miles. There is no manual or key operated way to unlock the liftgate. It failed in the locked position which has the potential to trap someone inside in the event of an emergency. The only way to open was to crawl inside the back end of the vehicle, rip the plastic trim panels off that cover the mechanism, and then move the actuator by hand. When I took to the dealer to check out he wanted over $500 to replace the lock actuator. I read numerous other complaints of this problem on this vehicle. *tr
I have replaced the rear door actuator on two separate occasions with the same result. Both parts have failed. One after market part then a part from gm manufacture. In the event of an emergency being able to exit the rear door would not be possible, therefore a recall should be established to re-evaluate the vehicles rear door safety. *tr

The contact was able to place the seat back to its normal, upright position; however, the failure recurred two weeks later. I'm describing a potential problem on vehicles I do not own, but have seen the behavior: various late-model gm pick-up trucks and suvs (tahoe as an example) will turn on the white back-up tail-light when the owner unlocks the vehicle via remote. I believe this is very dangerous as someone driving by thinking the vehicle is backing-up, and could make a sudden stop to allow the vehicle to back out. *jb
