Have had numerous problems starting with a lifter stuck in motor at 296 miles, to transmission failure at 15,700 miles. Brakes have squeaked since it was new, overhead console has fallen off twice, satellite radio works when it wants to. Door rubbed on running board, now gas mileage has dropped under 10 miles per gallon. 14 trips to dealership so far and still not all is fixed. *tr

Since purchasing this vehicle new in january 2007 the radiator has been replaced twice. Now, in december 2013 with 114000 miles, the radiator is losing coolant and the engine smells of coolant after driving. Most likely the radiator will have to be replaced for the third time. *tr
We bought the used vehicle in march 2012 with a 30 day warranty. During the first month, noticed engine slipping (usually around 45 MPH). Checked fluids, added coolant and naively thought the problem would go away, and it seemed to for about a month. However, the engine/transmission slippage has gotten much worse since then. We are constantly adding coolant and driving very carefully to avoid a hard jerk in the transmission around 45 MPH. When we took it to the local Ford dealership, they said that the "transmission was probably shot" but that they could change the spark plugs "for about $250 each even though that probably wouldn't help." how in the world can a spark plug be this expensive to change? The dealership charged us nearly $200 to run diagnostics for a problem that we now k
This 2006 explorer eddie bauer car started making roaring sound when trying to accelerate. Tried backing off the accelerator as much as possible. Thermostat gauge temperature went to hot and displayed red and a/c started blowing cold air. Thermostat then went from hot to cold multiple times. Checked coolant levels and they were fine. The engine and car finally shut down completely and the car then overheated. Coolant blew out at the hose at the thermostat. Towed the car to a nationwide repair shop where they replaced thermostat and pressure tested cooling system but car will no longer idle and engine now has major problems. Towed the car to the Ford dealership and they are now saying it may have a blown head gasket ($2200 or more) and or engine needs to be replaced ($5600)
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Ford explorer eddie bauer edition. The contact was driving approximately 45 MPH when the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact then realized that the vehicle had overheated as it proceeded to stall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised her that the radiator and thermostat failed. The vehicle was repaired but the check engine warning light was illuminated again after two weeks. The vehicles was taken back to the independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the head gasket was blown and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance to the contact. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Ford explorer. The contact stated that the temperature gauge started to increase and the temperature warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the radiator was leaking and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 36,000.
Engine was racing, took it to dealer, they said it was programmable transmission, cost $100 to diagnose and reset program. Ok for a while, started racing again. Took back to dealer, said it is leaky radiator, it was bone dry and it was the engine fan racing not the motor. Just past warranty, never received extended warrant information until just last week, after the fact. Taking it to a different repair guy, engine could have overheated and locked up! *tr

When vehicle is put in reverse the transmissions jolts extremely hard into gear. Feels like your vehicle go hit. Seems very unsafe. When driving it seems like the transmission jerks into 2, n 3rd gear. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Ford explorer. The contact stated that when shifting into drive or reverse, the vehicle would jerk violently. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who informed the contact that the failure could have been caused by an incorrect differential. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was not available.
Last night the car was in drive but would keep kicking out of gear... I would push the gas, the engine would rev, but the car wouldn't go anywhere. I even rolled backwards down a hill on a highway and almost hit another car! I had to shut the car off, and restart it in order to get it to back in gear. This happened 10-15 times in a 20 minute drive! I was nervous to even drive it home! It is at the Ford dealership now... I will keep you posted... Will never buy an american car again! It is completely unsafe to drive! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Ford explorer. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift out of park. The contact received an unknown safety recall letter from the manufacturer regarding the shift lever circuit board. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have the shift lever circuit board replaced but the repair did not remedy the issue. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer a month later but the dealer did not find a problem with the shifter. The dealer suggested to the contact to apply the emergency brake before shifting the vehicle out of park. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the shifter and the manufacturer stated that it was up to the dealer whether the vehicle would be repaired under the recall a second time. The failure mileage was 86,000.
My 2006 Ford explorer frequently lurches/lunges when coming to a stop and starting up from a stop. It feels like the car is being rear-ended. I have taken it in to be repaired and it seemed to work ok for a short time, but it has started doing the same thing again. It makes me wonder if it is safe to drive. *tr

My Ford explorer xlt 2006 had a delayed delivery date to me for 2 days due to a "bad cluster" on start up. The truck was repaired and I picked it up on november 1, 2005. This vehicle is leased. There was a recall for the windshield wipers which I had repaired on december 8, 2005. On december 9, 2005 while I was driving with my two young children in the truck I pulled out of a parallel parking space and the steering wheel began to feel very tight and it was grinding when steering slightly left or right of the center and then it would free up again making the truck easy to oversteer. As I drove the tightness would go away until I slowed down and then it would get tight again. Also the grinding on turns either left or right remained. I got to a safe place and called my purchasing deale

I own a 2006 Ford explorer eddie bauer model. Six months after purchase, the rear wiper blade stopped working. I called the dealer which I purchased it from and they told me it is not covered and a new motor would cost $300 plus labor. I feel this is a safety issue because with the heavy snows and rain in my area, a malfunctioning rear wiper could cause an accident. I know of 4 other people with the same problem with the same vehicle. I called Ford headquarters to file a complaint and they said there was nothing they can do. Please look into this problem and I am sure I am not the only person complaining of this issue. *tr
