My 2006 GMC has only 29,000 miles on it. I bought the truck in october 2009 with 16,000 miles. I keep the truck clean inside and out, top to bottom including under the vehicle. People comment to me all the time on how nice the truck looks. Brake line let go in yard. Pedal went to the floor, no brakes had to hit reverse then neutral and the emergency brake. I had just returned home from going up town. Thank god it happened where it did. I have been driving 40 years and only replaced one brake line in a 11 year old Ford truck and that was just a section near a bend. This truck needs to have all the lines replaced. I just replaced all the transmission lines 4 months ago for $800.00. Same thing, all rusted. I lived in massachusetts my whole life and I do my best to keep the salt off the truck.

Total brake failure while in motion. Corroded brake line ruptured causing immediate loss of all fluid. Had this happened 5 minutes earlier, I would have been on a four lane highway in bumper to bumper christmas traffic. At 70 years old I can only imagine how catastrophic an accident my reflexes would have generated. The fluid sprayed on the hot engine creating a cloud of smoke. I was afraid the truck was on fire. The fluid cooked off the engine as smoke and again luckily there was no fire. Now after extensive repairs, I am very nervous behind the wheel of this vehicle. This very dangerous situation with corrosion should be addressed as blogs on the internet indicate this dangerous issue has been ongoing for quite awhile. I have attached the invoice of the repairs required. I was in the
2006 sierra denali with just over 75,000 miles. With 1/2 block warning and only traveling at a speed of 20mph, I was unable to come to a complete stop. The brake pedal was all of the way to the floor when I ran into a van in the intersection. I felt very little resistance from the pedal and the ABS definitely did not go off. There was no snow or ice on the road surface. However after towing the vehicle to the local dealership, I was told nothing was wrong with the truck. Two independent third parties have suggested this could be a master cylinder issue even though GMC gave it a clean bill of health. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 GMC sierra 1500. The contact stated that the master cylinder failed on his vehicle. While driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle failed to stop. The contact rear ended another vehicle. There were no injuries. The front end, hood, and grill were damaged. The vehicle was towed from the scene and returned to the shop it was repaired at three months prior to the crash. The technician stated that the master cylinder was the cause of the failure. The contact has called different GMC dealers and repair shops to purchase a master cylinder, but there are none in stock. It would take a week for the part to arrive so that the repair can be completed. The failure mileage was 50,000.
ABS activation at low speeds resulting in increase stopping distance. It resulted almost striking a pedestrian in a crosswalk. This had previously been repaired at my own cost in 2011 and the problem has again returned. Previously GMC sierras were recalled with the same problem. Recall number: 05v379000 recall date: 08/29/2005 component: service brakes, hydraulic:antilock problem summary: certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles may experience unwanted antilock brake system (ABS) activation. Consequence: this can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash.
I purchased the 2006 2500hd diesel pickup new. The truck has had poor braking since new and the dealer has always said it functions normally. I have had the dealer do all the maintenance on the truck other than oil and filter changes. The undercarriage of the truck including all lines, brakes rotors, hubs has been rusting since new. The underside of the truck looks like a 20 year old plow truck. On 12-6-2012 I was driving on the highway in traffic and the experienced a complete brake failure. Some how I did not hit anything and was able to get to the shoulder and coast to a stop (very lucky in n.j. Traffic). The brake lines blew the truck was towed back to the dealer and they find the lines are gone as well as the rotors that they replaced about 2 years ago. The pads are still in great sha
Hydraulic brake line rust out results in loss of stopping ability. The "blow out" occurred while the vehicle was stopped (I was very lucky!). Upon inspection, several of the hydraulic lines were rusted badly. I felt that I had to replace them all (with stainless steel lines) to prevent another failure which could have dire consequences. The cost of the replacement stainless steel hydraulic lines was over $300. I performed the replacement of these lines myself. It cost me an additional $180 to get the complete ABS braking system bled out. *tr
When braking at slow speeds the anti lock brakes appear to engage causing the pulsating brake in the pedal. The truck stopping distance is increased and the brakes do not fully engage causing the truck to bump the curb. The problem also may happen at higher speeds such as 25 MPH and corrects when the pedal is depressed fully to the floor causing the brakes to fully engage (lock up). The problem is intermittent and does not happen every time. *tr
While driving at low speeds, about 20 MPH or lower, the brake pedal fades to the floor. There are no lights or codes and brake fluid at the proper level. This happens quite frequently and anywhere.

In late october, 2013, I purchased my 2006 GMC sierra c1500 standard cab, 2wd pickup from a private owner. On or about, december 01, 2013, I noticed that the "service air bag" warning message appeared intermittently. The "airbag" illuminated symbol in the dash instrumentation area was also illuminated. This would randomly come on and go off during normal operation of the vehicle. I subsequently took the truck to a local GMC/Chevrolet dealer for service of this problem. They charged me to fix the issue and it did not appear for about a week after their repair. I should have known better, as the dealership has been unable to successfully repair previous issues on other vehicles that I have had serviced there. The "service air bag" message has been on constantly since about february,

According to the district distributor representative for firestone he said the term "stone chipping" is what's happening to some of their tires. When I look at my tire, I see chips of rubber coming out of the tire even in the tread. *jb

Since roughly june of 2014 complete vehicle shakes violently when brakes are applied. I have had it looked at and have been told that it is the brake lines ABS and needs replacement. I am a single father of two boys struggling financially and cannot afford new brake lines. I also have a current situation where the rear bumper is completely rotted through and as a result cannot pass state vehicle inspection I have searched for 2 months and cannot find a used rear bumper and manufacturer cost is $450-$500 which I cannot afford at the moment. I have always had a GMC pickup and am very dissatisfied with my present situation as I have only put 25,000 miles on the vehicle since purchased. *tr
