Upon filling the gas tank there is consistent fuel spill back. Fuel spews from the filler opening. Second owner, not sure if this has been occurring prior to date and mileage above. *kb

During every fill up of gas, the nozzle does not shut down in time and fuel shoots out of the fill tube all over anyone filling the tank and onto the ground. There are hundreds of people complaining of the same thing, all with Jeep wranglers. *tr

Overspill during refueling, every time. Fuel does not stop automatically and overflows (spews) out onto side of vehicle, onto pavement and also onto driver's clothes. This has happened at numerous different gas stations and pumps. This presents a very dangerous situation and could result in serious injury or death if the fuel is ignited. *kb

1. Failure apparent since beginning of ownership. 2. Fuel spills out of gas tank upon filling the gas tank in a normal fashion. Failure occurs every time gas tank is filled completely. Gas spills out of tank, over the outside of the vehicle, and on to the ground at the gas pump. 3. No attempts to correct failure at this point. *tr

Everytime I fill my 2006 Jeep wrangler with fuel it will click the auto shutoff on the pump and then puke fuel all over the side of the car and the ground. Approx. A quart if not careful. *tr

2006 Jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon. Every time I fill it up with gas, a significant amount of gas shoots out before the pump shuts off. This happens at every pump I've tried. Going slow at the end doesn't solve the problem. Enough fuel comes out that I usually have to mop it up off the ground. This is a dangerous fire hazard. *tr

I'm writing the NHTSA to provide my experience with a gas overflow issue on my 2006 Jeep unlimited. Without fail, at each fill-up, the gas nozzle will allow gas to backflow out of the filler neck, past the vapor recovery system and spray outward and drain down the car. In most cases, as much as 1.5-2 quarts of gasoline is spewing out of the filler neck. In almost all cases, employees from the station must come out and complete remediation efforts to absorb the spilled gas. In most cases, I receive a good dousing of gas on my hands and clothes. I have contacted the dealership and because my car is out of warranty due to age, not miles, they have informed me that I will need to pay upwards of $1,000 for a new gas tank with the same faulty check-valve design. I understand that chrysle

When filling the gas tank the gas overflows in a spray or stream without tripping the pump shutoff. It also at times will only fill when filling extremely slow. *tr

Fuel spilling at every fill up, from reading on the internet it seems to be a very common problem with Jeep wranglers. It happens at every fuel station and doesn't matter if the nozzle is half in or totally in. *tr

While filling up my 2006 Jeep wrangler (tj), gas has come shooting out of the inlet for the gas pump nozzle. I am *not* attempting to 'top off' my fuel tank, this occurs in the normal process of filling my tank up. Today's incident (12/23/2009) is the third incident in less than two months. Previously, I had thought that perhaps it was me exceeding the fill limit of the tank ('topping off') because I was using the 'auto fill' switch on the gas nozzles handle. However, after the second incident in two months I decided to do some research online and have found that this seems to be a complaint with later model Jeep vehicles. To this date and to the best of my knowledge, however, Chrysler has not issued any recall or warning concerning this safety issue. I am filing this complaint be

At the completion of adding gas the fuel spot over flows, the gas flow does not stop at the pump automatically. Gas is spilled over the pump handle and ground. *tr

Every time I get gas at the pump, at the end of filling the tank it gushes out a ton of gasoline all over the side of my Jeep, all over the pump/handle itself, creating a dangerous fire hazard. This happens every time. I've read online it's a known issue but hasn't yet had a recall or a fix? So am filing in hopes of a fix from the manufacturer. I've also read there is some kind of fix but it may be costly. But it's a safety issue and needs resolved. *tr

The gas tank on my 2006 wrangler rhd overflows when fueling at the gas station. *tr

12/22/2010 ODI #10372126.0

I have a 2006 unlimited Jeep wrangler and a couples years ago, while my car was still under warranty, the gas tank started overflowing, the pump did not stop and gas would get all over the car, my clothing, etc. The dealership then replaced the entire gas tank. Recently this problem began again and I had to contact the manufacturer directly and then the dealership to get this fixed. I ended up paying approximately $222 to get a new gas tank again. When I went fill up the car after picking it up from being "supposedly" fixed I realized that it was not fixed and gas was all over my car. It seems as if this is a recurring problem and replacing the gas tank is a short term fix or no fix at all. Needless to say, I have to bring my wrangler back to the dealership again. *tr

When filling fuel tank gas pump shuts off too late, results in fuel spillage every time vehicle is filled unless the tank is not filled completely. Gas blows back onto hand of person filling vehicle causing personal injury hazard, and also spills onto ground and vehicle causing fire hazard. The shut-off works, but comes too late to be effective - usually pump shuts off then momentarily later gas flies out of filler neck. *tr

Consistently, while refueling the vehicle, regardless of fill rate, if the nozzle is not stopped manually, gasoline erupts from the filler neck when the tank is full. It is usually enough to leave gas dripping down the vehicle and a small puddle underneath. This happens each and every time it is filled. *tr

While fueling and before the pump automatically shuts off, fuel sprays out of the filler neck, runs down the fender and onto the ground. This is not just randomly it happens at every fill up.

Gas spurts out of tank when I fill it up and drips all over gas station floor. The gas pump does not stop once its full like other cars and im worried spilled fuel could ignite. Also bad for environment. *tr
