After 65000 miles transmission started to show problems. Mostly from 1 to 2 gear it jumps like a mule. Almost undriveable. I have spoken to the dealer but warranty is no longer active so most spend 3500 dollars. I would never buy Nissan again. *kb

I purchased a 2006 Nissan maxima with approx. 16,000 miles in september 2006. In 2009 with appox. 50,000-60,000 miles on the car, the transmission started to slip. It jerks when I put the car in reverse and drive, it shifts up and down hard and it jerks when I am at a complete stop with my foot on the break.

Purchased 2006 maxima. Transmission slips and knocks!! The car only had approx 80k miles when this started!! We have replaced motor mounts but the problem still occurs. It is becoming more frequent as well. I did some research and this apparently is a problem for many owners starting in 2004. We are still paying on this car! *tr

Transmission is slipping and bucking so hard that it feels as if you either hit someone or someone has hit you from behind. Causes you to lose speed and makes the cars behind you to slow down to avoid rear ending collision. When the vehicle is like this it gives you a very uneasy feeling as to what will happen next to cause you to become a hazard and put yourself and others in danger. The vehicle has gone through 2 rebuilt transmissions already this year alone and the problem is starting to resurface again. *tr

I bought my 2006 Nissan maxima se in 2007 with about 8k miles on it. The regularly maintained car now has a little under 81k miles and is having transmission problems. It started with the car jerking and a loud noise when shifting from drive to reverse and reverse to drive. Now the car is jerking when accelerating. The car stalls then surges forward. I took my car to my local mechanic because I can not afford to pay the $100 fee the dealership charges just to look at the vehicle. I was told the transmission is deteriorating. I started looking for information about it and came across an abundance of testimonies from people with the exact experience as me all within the same mileage and it seems Nissan is not doing anything about it. I guess someone will need to die before this issue is take

***faulty transmission*** my 2006 Nissan maxima jerks, takes time to accelerate in traffic, and it barely wants to move once stopping for a red light. The gear spontaneously gets stuck in either 1st or 5th and I have to pull over and turn the car off and then back on so that I can get to my destination. This is so dangerous. My car has been properly maintained throughout the years and upon my research, I have found that others (have had/and are still having) the same problems that I am experiencing right now. This is not safe or fair to me as a consumer. A recall needs to be done asap. *tr

Transmission slips and jerks during take-off and acceleration. This is a major safety issue when attempting to cross traffic or clear intersections.

I have a 2005 Nissan maxima and the car is jerking and jumping while driving and upon stopping. It occurs everytime I drive the car and I've took it to the shop and it was put on a diagnostic and they stated that its a transmission problem. Their should be a mandatory recall for these cars because I'm not the only one with this problem. Please help us and look into this. Nissan is not trying to help us at all. *tr

I felt ABS system actuating via pumping sensation in my brake pedal while I was driving on dry pavement. It performed worse when going uphill, at low speeds and on flat surfaces. Error codes were generated and "dummy" lights went on. The braking was not very effective as a result of the ABS kicking in erroneously. Thankfully I was keeping a safe following distance and was able to brake with some room to spare but if I had regular brakes without the ABS malfunctioning, I would have stopped more quickly. Thankfully nobody was hurt this time. Mechanic investigation indicated this is a known problem. The service bulletin: ntb07-016b has the information you need to fix the ABS problem. However, it was not caught in time to help me avoid a failed actuator. *tr

From nov 2009 to jan 2010, I replaced the actuator, rear wheel sensor, hub and components. Now, the dealership states that I will have to replace all of that again (dec 2010). A part that was replaced last year rusted causing "rust intrusion" and Nissan does not consider that part to be defective (even though that same part is less that a year old). So in less than a year, I have spent $4000 to have the same issues repaired (not really) twice. *tr

The transmission slips, jumps out of gear between gears. Often it will go to shift then it revs up not in gear instead of shifting then after a few seconds it slams hard into gear. This is not a daily constant issue it is random and sometimes will go weeks between having the issue pop up. When it pops up it will happen during that entire drive. The next time it is driven even that same day even just 15 minutes later it will not have shifting issues sometimes it does. There are many many many customers complaining about this issue with Nissan transmissions. *tr

I was driving my 2006 Nissan maxima home on the interstate in 5-o-clock traffic and the transmission gave out. I was in the left lane and was luckily able to get into the right lane without hitting another car or causing a serious accident. I then rolled to the nearest exit and was able to break to a stop, but of course with the transmission gone I couldn't even roll the car home. I had the car towed. This wasn't too much of a surprise as I had spoken with a transmission repair shop just a few months prior and was told that I needed a new valve body, the one on this particular car is commonly seen and replaced all the time. At that time he quoted me $1800 for the part/labor, which I didn't have so I agreed to come back when I received more financial aid for the spring semester. When I cont

Vehicle started showing warning lights and responding sporadically, working smoothly then failing in various manners including: failing to accelerate after stopped at traffic light, lost power when exiting highway, lurched while driving on interstate, lights failed then turned back on, flashing failure lights, loss of fuel errors, others. Investigation revealed that a faulty design in the car computer housing and location made it possible for dimes to fall from the dash into an opening, which appeared to be a test port, in the computer causing shorts resulting in the sporadic behavior and ultimate complete failure of the unit. The mechanic was able to find technical publications that documented this known defect and the associated dangerous implications. *tr

I was a proud owner of a 2006 maxima but now I am very disappointed. About two months ago, my car started jerking when switching gears, accelerating, parking, and slowing down. I went to Nissan and they told me that my transmission had internal failures and needed to be replaced at $4200.00!!! My car only has 73,000 miles should not need a new transmission. I looked on the internet and discovered that there are thousands of people who have had the same issues and have filed a class action lawsuit against Nissan because they know that their transmissions are messed up and they are trying not to own up to it. This is a safety concern because when it jerks violently or stalls, you lose control of the car which is very scary and terrifying. I will never buy another Nissan again!!! *tr
