2006 prius HID headlights and taillights failed. The lights quality is very bad. We were forced to stop by the policeman. It was very dangerous on highway. Toyota is losing its reputation. The company should pay all the price for changing the bulbs. (labor + bulbs) our 2002 Hyundai's lights have never been in this situation. *tr

I have a 2006 prius with the HID headlights and want to confirm that both bulbs have failed. The dealer agreed to replace them under warranty even though I have 47000 miles on the vehicle. I did complain about this a year ago and the dealer did nothing at that time. This problem is compounded by just today receiving a notice from Toyota about an HID headlight support program that lowers the price of the bulbs to $150 per bulb. This is still outrageous. *tr

I have the same problem as many, many other prius owners, with my 2006 prius's HID lights going out while driving. When I realize that one or both lights have gone out, I flip the headlight switch and they come back on, only to go out again within seconds! Toyota says this is a dealer-only item and the HID bulbs cost $300 a piece! These bulbs are not available at auto parts stores. The price is exorbitant and very unaffordable for many people. This is a serious safety issue! Toyota should recall their priuses and fix this issue once and for all instead of ripping people off and putting their lives in danger! Please help put some pressure on Toyota to do the right thing. *tr

2006 Toyota prius with HID lights. At 30,000 miles, in december 2007, the passenger side light began to turn off by itself. It would turn back on if we turned the lights completely off, then on again (dangerous at night, of course). At 35,000 miles, the dealership estimated $350 to replace the bulb, but then replaced bulb under warranty. At 50,000 miles the drivers side headlight began to do the same thing. We could not afford to pay for the replacement so have been turning off and on to remedy. Last week the passengers side headlight started doing it again, even though it is only 1 year old. There are times we have one headlight, and times we have no headlights other than the fog lights. We have been stopped by police and given a warning about a headlight being out. This is a dangerous si

2006 Toyota prius left headlight goes off at random. Only way to get it to work is to turn the headlight off & turn back on. It occurs almost everytime the headlights are used. *tr

The factory installed HID headlights periodically turn off. The first incident occurred two years ago, and I thought I had imagined it. I noticed dim lights and corrected the problem by quickly switching to bright lights. I was later told one head light was out while driving, but when I checked by exiting the vehicle both lights were on. The problem was very intermittent for two years primarily because I rarely drive at night. The problem is much more frequent now occurring multiple times per trip. I discovered that I can temporarily resolve the problem by cycling the head light switch ? Not a safe tactic. An internet search today revealed this to be a common problem. Surprisingly, we have not received a notice from Toyota. This is clearly a dangerous factory defect. If Toyota wi

2006 Toyota prius package 6. HID left headlight intermittent failure. Will turn back on if you cycle on/off switch. Car has 57,000 miles. Problem may have been occurring much sooner. Hard to tell unless looking at headlight reflection in car ahead of you. Several priuschat.com members have reported same problem. Difficulty getting dealer to solve or cover repair. *tr

2006 Toyota prius front driver side HID headlight turns off. If I turn the lights off and then back on, the headlight comes back on and functions perfectly. This happens at random occasions (day, night, smooth roads, dry, wet conditions), checked connection and all connections are fine. *tr

The HID headlamps, flicker, go-out at will, sometimes its just one head light other time its both at the same time!!!! Toyota has fixed it but after maybe a month it went back to do the same exact thing! This is dangerous!! And apparently happens very very often to alot of other 2006 to 2009 Toyota owners. *tr

Toyota prius 2006 right headlight will spontaneously and at random turn off. It happens when you are driving the vehicle. Often the car will illuminate both headlights and it is only after driving several minutes, the right headlight will turn off. Very difficult to reproduce. I feel this is a significant safety issue. Cost estimates from research have been shown to be $400.00 to $1200.00. Toyota has still not issued a recall for this problem

My 2006 prius left driver headlight began going on and off randomly and frequently at about 25,000 mi. I reported the problem to the dealer several times, but they couldn't diagnose the problem unless the headlight was out, which of course it wasn't. On occasion if I turned the headlights on and off the light would come back on temporarily. This was documented prior to the warranty running out. Finally, the headlight was completely out...the dealer and I argued over the warranty and they finally agreed to fix the problem. They replaced the bulbs and now again 30,000 mi. Later the same problem is re-occurring. This time however, turning lights on and off doesn't resolve the problem even temporarily. And once again they are refusing to take responsibility. Every two years, the headlights of my 2006 Toyota prius begin to fail and start to turn off, unexpectedly, while I'm driving. Several times, I've driven long distances at night, completely unaware of the fact that they had shut off, and later they appear to be working fine. At 20,000 miles, I had both lights replaced by the dealership. Less than two years later, the driver's side headlight stared to fail again. The dealership paid for the light, but charged me $120 for the labor. Seven months later, the passenger side light began to fail. Again, the dealership paid for the bulb but charged me for the labor. After the third repair, I called the Toyota experience center. They said that their new customer support program would not cover reimbursing me for the labor. I'm concerned

1. Under normal driving conditions, the right HID headlight bulb on my 2006 prius failed. 2. The right HID headlight bulb goes/flickers off. The lights have to be turned off and on to temporarily correct the problem. Over time, the problem has gotten progressively worse. 3. I have gone to 3 different Toyota dealerships and have been told that the replacement cost would be over $400 parts & labor. Recently, I have found a bulb at a dealership for $157 parts only. *tr

The headlamp of prius 2006 intermittently goes off while driving. The problem goes away if the car is completely shut off and then restarted. Many others are reporting the same problem with prius and replacement of headlight does not rectify the problem. The problem is creating dangerous situation for driving, particularly during rain or snow because others cant see the car and the drivers visibility becomes greatly affected. *tr

HID bulb intermittently shuts off in my 2006 Toyota prius. Toyota wants to replace bulb ($162.50 each). However, according to the blogs, this is a recurring problem with prius's and may be a "controller" problem, not a bulb issue. *tr

The light up display for the odometer, fuel gauge, and speedometer does not always light up. When it is not lit, the cruise control and any warning and informative alarms/lights also do not work. This is a well-known issue among owners of these cars, related to the capacitors on the circuit board for the display being defective, and there is extensive documentation of it online. It may also have had a technical service bulletin released for the issue, but I'm not entirely sure. The light goes out intermittently and is not always consistently out. I did mention it to the service personnel when I took it in to get recalls repaired recently, and they didn't seem surprised or unaware of the issue. I did not ask them to diagnose or fix it, as I know I can get it done for a better deal elsewher
