Just recently purchased a used 2006 Toyota rav4...because I've owned two previous to this one and simply appreciate them... However....I've only owned this one since may of 2013 from a reputable dealership and to much surprise I am already experiencing technical difficulties. At about 1.5k miles after an oil change, my oil light comes on...checked the oil and it was low to the point where I had to add an additional quart on the 1st occasion and 2 quarts on the 2nd occasion...may I add that there is no leak. Who is going to hold Toyota accountable? I need help and answers. *tr

I own 2006 Toyota rav4 with 48,000 miles. My car was driving fine until christmas eve this year. Last year in april I received recall letter saying I should replace the oil rubber hose. 18 months later I notice a lot of oil under my car, there was none left in the engine. I had to call towing company to take the car to the dealer. They said that the hose is broken, the one that supposed to be upgraded lasted only 18,000 miles. They charge us $700 because our warranty finished in july 2011 and the warranty for the recall is only for 1 year. I tried to negotiate with them but nobody even listened. We left the dealer with nothing, my husband was driving the car, he pulled to the parking lot and heard this big noise coming from the engine. It was 15 minutes after we left the dealer service dep

I own a 2006 rav4 v6. At roughly 60,000 miles the engine, vsc and 4wd light would start going on and then off after shutting down. The dealer said it was probably the gas cap after filling up not being tight. At 64,000 miles the lights went on and stayed on. Because my local Toyota dealer is worthless, I went to a trusted mechanic. The codes showed a bad coil in the #2 cylinder so I replaced it. They suggested that these coils have been known to be bad and that I should replace all of them. I didn't want to drop $1300 at the time and now at 70,000 the lights are on again and the codes are showing all 6 coils are bad again. How is it that a car that is supposed to be able to go 100,000 miles before you even need to change the plugs has all the coils go bad at the same time. There a
I have always brought in my Toyota for regular maintenance to the dealer every 5,000 miles. In july of this year, the oil warning light began to light every time I hit the brakes. My dealer performed an oil consumption check. By november I was advised to have the engine reconstructed and repair the rings and pistons, because the engine was leaking excessive oil. I also had to replace the brakes. The repairs cost over $3500 and took over a week to complete. I recently learned that this model Toyota has a record of stuck oil rings causing excessive oil consumption which leads to engine failure. I feel that this should be a recall item. Engine failure due to loss of oil can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. This is a serious safety issue. I would like to be reimbursed f
Noticed at about 98,000 miles the vehicle was using more oil than expected. I now find after a dealer test that the vehicle is consuming oil at the rate of 2 quarts per 1200 miles. I feel that this is excessive and in spite of the fact that it is past the warranty period which was mostly kept quiet by Toyota I feel they should be responsible for all the repairs for a longer period of time to allow all the ones including myself an opportunity to get the repairs. Test was done on 12/22/2017.
The check engine oil light began flickering under hard braking. Light never was on under normal idle or travel. Upon checking oil on dipstick - no oil registered on dipstick. I immediately proceeded to the change oil and the oil pan only contained approximately 1.2 quarts or 75% less than the 4.5 quarts specified. Upon web research it appears rav4 has problems with excessive oil consumption. Registered a complaint with Toyota usa as I know have concerns damage was done to engine as warning light should have come on sooner. *tr
10/26/15 was serviced by germain Toyota, naples, fl, oil tank was empty and engine was overheated. The car had been driven 3711 miles since last oil change (there was no leak). I put a quart of oil in so that I could drive it to the dealer. They performed their version of an oil consumption test and claimed it passed the test. 3/11/16 oil tank was empty and car was overheated. It had been driven 2496 miles since the previous oil change. They said it had passed the previous test & all was ok. 10/7/16 oil tank was empty, had been driven but I had purchased 3 qts of oil and added it to the empty tank. Prior to me adding the oil, car was extremely overheated and I got burned trying to get the hood up. I could not touch any part of the engine or would have been severely burned. The car

I purchased a new 4 cylinder 2006 Toyota rav 4 in april 2006. At about 30,000 miles I noticed a subtle clunking noise when making right turns at a slow speed. When the sound continued to increase and also occurred when turning the steering wheel to the right when the car was not moving, I took it to the local Toyota dealer. I have now done so 2 times . The mechanics assigned to evaluate the situation agreed that there was the clunking noise and gave me the Toyota t-sb-0318-08. Since the situation has continued to get worse I am concerned about wear on parts. We drive on mountain roads with many curves. Are we safe? Does Toyota have plans to address this problem? *tr
My 2006 rav 4 has had a series of front end problems dating from jan 2007 to april 2009. It had been in the shop 9 times (warranty work) with numerous parts being replaced before Toyota had their southern california rep come and look at it. They ended up replacing just about all of the front end component parts except the steering. That was the 10th time the car was in. Now after 21 months the sound is back and I can even feel vibration knock in the steering. This car was purchased new in july 2006. Mileage at the first sign of trouble was 4847. Mileage in april 2009 was 26737. Current mileage is 41800. I don't feel safe driving this car with the feeling that something is going to break while I'm making a sharp turn. *tr
I have a 2006 rav4 6 cylinder. Within the last few months I have begun to notice the knocking/creaking noise when making turns at slow speeds. I have asked the dealer to look at it when it was in for service but of course they could not hear the problem. Have found many people with this dreaded "knocking" noise when turning and according to those people, the steering shaft needs replaced. *tr
We had the Toyota dealer check a noise in the steering on a 2006 Toyota rav4. They diagnosed the noise as noise from the steering shaft. Since the vehicle was out of Toyota warranty, tsb st001-08, they refused to fix the issue. We contacted the extended warranty service and they also refused to repair the issue. The extended warranty service indicated that the part would have to physically break before it could be fixed. Researching the issue indicates that there have been no accidents or injuries yet due to the defect. When an issue indicates a possible failure we like to have it repaired before damage occurs.*ln
On my 2006 Toyota rav4, I can hear and feel a clunking or popping noise and sensation in the steering wheel while turning. The feel is as if the linkage(s) in the steering wheel have some interference or have become prematurely worn to the point where they are rubbing on each other and produce a popping sensation in the steering wheel while turning. The popping noise/sensation occurs every time I turn the car through turns greater than about 45 degrees, left or right. The sensation started about two years ago when the car had about 30,000 miles on it. The car currently has about 67,000 miles on it. *tr

Frame has severe corrosion rotted through. This problem must have been progressing for some time, but the indicator of a rattling was most evident recently. I began hearing a clanging sound under the rear of the drivers side when I went over small bumps in the road, such as a manhole or small pothole. It got progressively worse in a matter of days, occurring over small cracks in the road so I brought it to my local mechanic. He has deemed it unsafe to drive with sever rotting through of the frame. My research online indicates this is similar to brian warner et al. V. Toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc., class action settlement on the tacoma, tundra and sequoia and recent investigation into the 4runner by national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA).
This is an inquiry not a complaint I had my car checked for the suspension arm recall nothing was done to my car I given a repair estimate for tires and a alignment my concern is if there was nothing done now what happens if this suspension arm causes a problem next week or next year can I be certain that a quick check is all that is needed to ensure safety no clips or caution labels were mentioned am I driving a safe vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Toyota rav4. The contact stated that both rear wheels were wearing out the tires due to NHTSA campaign number: 16v596000 (suspension) regarding the rear suspension arm. The vehicle was taken to naguabo auto sales (272 naguabo pr 00718), but an alignment could not be completed due to the seal on the rear suspension. The dealer was supposed to replace both suspension arms, but they were sealed instead. The contact also stated that the tires would slide while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was determined that an alignment could not be completed due to the seal on the rear suspension. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 182,999. The VIN

The sun visor driver side does not hold itself up in position. The visor drops down when put up or can be set on a side or can be set full forward closer to the front glass, but it can easily move. The sun visor weight is to heavy for the design and making it faulty. A Toyota dealer employee mention it is a common problem on "all rav 4" of the same model. The incident happen driving up a hill with the visor full forward as to cover oneself from the direct sun. Upon falling in an unseen street hold the visor dropped down, at the same time another car was coming and due to the position uphill of the car and the visor dropping suddenly it almost caused a direct frontal collision. The visor must be change as it inhibits proper frontal vision and function. *tr updated 2/19/2016*js

My air bags light came on a month ago. I found out that the clock spring sensor was bad. I thing this should be a recall because is a safety issue and can cause injuries or death of people. *tr
