I brought my '07 sportrac with 73,800 miles to the Ford dealer to troubleshoot a check engine light and the wrench light, which it displayed for a few minutes and disappeared. After some troubleshooting 2 hrs later, the guy came out and gave me some bad news. I will need to repair my transmission or replace it. He did tell me a new transmission would not be from Ford since they don't make those anymore and would be from another maker. The above lights started showing this winter as it got colder and that's when I started to noticed rough idling with the RPM indicator spiking for a few minutes then it would go back to a normal reading. I guess some transmission part was acting up at that point. It also seem like if I let it warm up during startup a few minutes, I usually don't see it

Truck sometimes stays in 1st gear for a longer than normal period of time. Also hesitates/jerks when accelerating in 1st gear. *tr
Transmission jumps into first and second gears from start. Engine surges and causes vehicle to jump. No good idea when going through military gate entrances. Transmission hesitates when taking off. Transmission makes loud noise when you stop. Feels like someone crashes into vehicle. Action not safe for rush-hour freeway driving or any driving when you must drive slow. Such, as in ice and snow. Dealer tried to fix, but stated was factory defect and than Ford was working on the problem with a modification. Problem no evident when vehicle is hot rodded. But safe for average drivers. After almost hitting a marine guard at camp pendledton, I no longer drive the vehicle on base during rush hours or when there are formations for fear of hitting marchers. *tr
I have had my 2007 sportrac 8 cyl. For 1-1/2 years. Every morning when I start my vehicle, I must wait a full thirty seconds or more before I can put the car in gear. If I do it sooner, then the engine will rev, but the vehicle will not move. If I rev the engine to 6,000 RPM it will budge a bit. I have taken it in twice for this and the dealer says there is nothing wrong. Additionally, I am only getting about 9.5 MPG, and I feel it may be because of this transmission issue. *tr
Transmission surges when downshifting when braking. *tr

Ford transmission failed at 100,000 miles. Car stalled in the middle of a busy intersection, could not move. A lot of complaints have been filed about Ford's poor transmission and surprised there is yet to be a recall about their poor quality transmissions.
Advancetrac rsc system activated on dry road surface for no cause - causing disabled transmission line/no power to wheels & reduced engine power and resulting in emergency pullover in high speed traffic situation. Ford service unable to find cause - can not duplicate. *tr
Complete failure of the fuel pump control module (driver) due to exensive corrosion that breached the component housing, leading to electrical shorting that melted the electrical connection terminal. This is clearly an engineering / assembly flaw because corrosion should be anticipated when bolting zinc parts to steel frame members (without a di-electric barrier) installed in an area, subject to direct contact with water & road salt, when being sold in north american climates.
I'm told by uhaul that they will not put a trailor on because of some previous accidents and lawsuits. Is this true?

On 12/27/2008 went across rr tracks at 25 MPH had a frt tire blowout. Upon further inspection discovered tire splitting apart on the inside wall of all four tires near the rim. Out of site of a visual inspection unless tire is off. 23,000 miles on 07 Ford spt track. Way too soon to have to replace all four tires. Also believe this is a tire defect and could have been much more serious if I had been traveling at higher rate of speed. Took tires to Ford dealer and goodyear no help or very much concern. Im concerned that there are other drivers out there with these tires and they should be notified of the splits that are occurring and have their tires inspected asap before someone gets hurt or worse. If other drivers tires are splitting like mind did then the tires should be replaced asap. An
Valve stem failure. Rapid deflation of tire. 2nd failure on this vehicle. 1st failure was 09/23/2008 on a different tire - vehicle not moving at the time. Driving along at highway speed 50-60 MPH, 30 degrees, 8:00 am est. Low pressure warning indicator come on. Within a few minutes I feel truck handling change. I pull over into parking lot. I touch valve stem and here air escape. Within 2 more minutes tire was completely deflated. *tr

The brake pedal had become soft after 51,000 miles and a recent brake job. After calling the mechanic who did the job he said that the lines didnt need to bleed because the lines were never opened.
I have a 2007 explorer sport trac xlt into of server for fall in the brakes, the bob of engineer stated what was the most common fault in this vehicle, today have 40 days and the PCM in the vehicle cant be repaired by the shop. Description of the problem: when trying to step on the brakes, the vehicle tends to slip this can possibly cause an accident when I spoke with other Ford owners. *tr
Brand new Ford escape hybrid 2007 year with 2000 miles on it. Was driving to work at 6 am and had total brake failure. Fortunately there was no traffic at that time of day or there would have been a crash. Pedal went right to the floor and nothing. Brake light came on. Car towed to dealer later that morning. Brakes worked fine, no light on. They examined the computer records from the car and it did indicate a computer failure. Ford is replacing that part but we are very concerned it will happen again, and very concerned that this is a life threatening recall-scale issue on this type of vehicle. *nm
