2007 Mazda cx-7 - a/c compressor went out on way home from fl to atl. White smoke from right side engine bay. Was able to turn off a/c in time to keep vehicle running. Seems this is a known issue with Mazda. $900 to replace parts and labor. Mazda of roswell states issue was unknown to them. Mazda usa is aware as well as all the forums and this site as well from other customers. Many customers have had this happen multiple times. Some within the 36k btb warranty, some after. Powertrain is up to 60k. With this being a known issue, shouldn't this be a recall if it is a problem that will occur on most 2007 cx-7's with the part? I have emailed Mazda usa as well. *tr
Car's a/c stopped working and smoke came from the engine. Then the car stalled and the control via power steering went non-existent. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Mazda cx7. While driving 40 MPH the vehicle made a loud noise and then smoke was came from underneath the hood of the vehicle. She then pulled over to a mechanic shop. She was advised that the engines oil level was depleted. However she was not scheduled for another oil change until the 25th of december . The vehicle was then towed to the dealer and the technician stated that the turbo failed in her vehicle . The vehicle will be repaired at the owners expense. The failure and current mileages were 65000. Updated 02/1710 *bf updated 02/19/10
On 12/19/11, I was driving appx. 60 - 65 MPH on I-81 when my 2007 Mazda cx-7 just shut off. I was in the middle of traffic on the interstate, with a large tractor trailer behind me, but I was able to safely maneuver my car onto the shoulder of the interstate. My car would not start again. I did quite a bit of research on line regarding this particular issue and found a significant number of claims from other people that had this same problem happen to their 2007 Mazda cx7. The final diagnosis is total engine failure with a price tag of $7200 to fix. That would be for a whole new engine. I found a service bulletin from january of 2008 that corporate Mazda sent out to their dealers re: a problem with the timing chain. The bulletin specifically identifies a series of VIN#'s affected, and min
We were driving home on christmas eve going about 65 MPH when the cars engine just died. We lost all power to the car including the power steering. Thankfully we were on a straight stretch and due to time of night there were not many other cars on the road. We were able to coast to the side of the road safely. The car was towed to a dealership where it was discovered the timing chain broke and damaged the engine in the process. After researching this online I discovered hundreds if not thousands of complaints about a broken timing chain that required replacement of the engine. Some of these complaints were as early as 30,000 miles. There was even discussion about a recall on the timing chain from Mazda saying that it was defective but Mazda was not always honoring this recall. Obviously ba
My wife's 2007 cx7 was in a parking lot. My wife started it up, came to a stop sign and the car died without warning. It had 65,000 miles on it (5000 over the warranty) and wasn't even 3 years old. We had always gotten regular oil changes and had just had one the week before. We had it towed to the nearest Mazda dealer. The first time I talked to a service tech he mentioned the timing chain breaking. Later, they explained it as a valve (variable valve timing actuator?) failing and causing oil chain failure (jumping the gearing). My bill ($7500 - new engine) only states internal parts failure. They tried to indicate the oil was dirty even thought the oil was changed less than a week prior. After reading through many cx7 forums online it seems they were trying to build a case for en
December 2012 (at about 64,000 miles) dealer replaced timing chain under extended warranty but didn't do anything to correct intermittent power loss and engine hesitation that I had complained to them at the time. November 2013 (at about 78,000 miles), the car experienced severe loss of power, stalling and heavy white smoke from the tailpipe. Dealer claimed "oil sludge" caused engine and turbo failure and refused to bear any responsibility or cost to fix. Mazda usa also refused, claiming the problems were due to insufficient oil change by the customer. Since we change oil regularly, we don't buy Mazda's claims, especially when they just opened up the engine less than a year ago to change the timing chain, and at that time didn't claim there was any "sludge" inside. Seeing many similar
Dealership maintained cx-7 experienced major failure while driving. Engine died and major oil leak was noticed. Car had to be towed to the dealership. The dealership first indicated that there was some type of failure regarding the #3 cylinder. Dealership said that the probable cause of failure was due to turbo overheating. Later the dealership stated that the #4 piston failed and caused catastrophic damage to the engine. The cause of failure was never determined. The engine, turbocharger, thermostat, EGR valve, intake manifold, starter and o2 sensor were replaced. Total cost of repairs (labor, parts, and misc charges) prior to tax was $10,557.49. Prior to engine failure we informed the dealership that the check engine light was constantly on but stated that it was due to the gas cap n
I have had to replacethe ac compressor pump this will be the third one. I cant afford $700.00 dollars per pump and it onlu last for 8 months. I seen all the complaint people have with this same issue. When is Mazda going to step up and help us resolve this issue. I will never buy or recommend a Mazda to anyone. Between that and the turbo they are junk and not depedable at all.
In september 2013 my car suddenly stopped accelerating while driving it... Heard a loud, grinding, screeching notice.. And suddenly my "check engine" light came on. Brought my car to Mazda.. 4 days later they tell me that my turbocharger blew.. And that I have damage to my engine. Told them I purchased an extended warranty in 2010 when I bought the car.. Warranty co was notified... They sent their own inspector to look at my car.. A week later they tell me that they will not cover the damage due to excessive sludge in my engine. And.... That I must produce every oil change receipt from 2010-2013 to show proof of maintenance. I gave them all the receipts I could get... And decided to do a little research myself on the issue. All I have to say is.. Wow. Apparently, there is a major default I
Timing chain replaced on 2007 Mazda cx7, july 2013. Vehicle over extended warranty issued by Mazda, repair was out of pocket, even though this is very common problem with this year Mazda. Now 5 months later, second timing chain has gone bad and Mazda is refusing to accept responsibility stating that the new timing chain failure was due to low oil in vehicle. I have service receipts to prove that all oil changes had been done, and that this was not the cause of the second timing chain failing, but more of continuance of faulty, defective Mazda parts. This is a huge problem with this company with an outstanding number of consumer complaints. They do not want to accept any responsibility for their own problem, instead putting it all back on the consumer. Please, get involved and put a s
I bought my 2007 mazdacx7 in feb 2012.ive only had the car for 8 mths when the turbo went out also the piston rings, first the driver side window came off the track could'nt let window down anymore, the the driverside door handle broke, called Mazda they said the handle would cost 200.00 to replace, could'nt afford to fix it still broken, then in 10/20121 the turbo went out, called the dealer where I bought the car from and he told me to take the car to Mazda dealership,so I did Mazda mechanic told me that it would cost over 2500.00 to fix the turbo no counting what else is wrong with the car because the car started smoking soo bad before I left the Mazda dealership the mechanic at Mazda said it doesn't make sense to fix my truck because who I bougt the car from they sold me a lemon that I might
Engine ceased on the highway while I was driving. Mazda says it is my fault for going 2000 miles over the oil change. However, oil light never came on; car was not driving any differently than normal; and no service engine light came on. Even though car is under warranty, Mazda is refusing to pay for the damage. It is hard to believe that a well-maintained card with a little over 50k miles will cease it engine because of 2000 miles over an oil change. *tr
airbags 3 complaints shown
Airbag safety sensors failed in my 2007 Mazda cx-7. Airbag light started coming on about 2 weeks before took vehicle to dealership. Called dealership ad was told it could be just baggage on passenger side seat and to come in if persists. It persisted and took vehicle in to be inspected. Technicians said sensors underneath front seats failed and needed to be recalibrated. Authorized the repair drivers side seat was recalibrated but passenger side could not. Airbag safety sensors not covered by extended warranty offered by Mazda and Mazda will not fix safety issue because vehicle no longer under manufacturers warranty. Technicians could not give me a reason why the sensors failed and why Mazda does not cover safety items that can save a life.
Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Mazda cx-7. The contact received a notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v356000 (air bags) however, the remedy was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The VIN was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Mazda cx-7. The contact previously had the front driver and passenger side air bags replaced. A week later, the air bag sensor illuminated. The vehicle was taken to maple shade Mazda (2921 nj-73, maple shade township, nj 08052, (856) 667-8004) where it was diagnosed that something in the display screen voice command system caused the air bag sensor to illuminate, and the display screen needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that someone would be in touch. No further assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000. *tt consumer stated a week after the service was performed the airbag sensor light on the dash board came on, it stayed on approximately 2 days then was off
tires 1 complaint shown
My husband and I purchased 2 Mazda cx-7's in oct 07. In sept 2008 1 vehicle after just 13,000 miles on it had excessive and abnormal wear on all 4 of the tires. We have been advised not to drive much on these tires in the condition they are in by 4 separate opinions we received from the dealership, tire manufacturer and 2 additional tire retailers. We have had 1 flat tire during the process of getting these tires replaced however neither the dealership, car manufacturer nor the tire manufacturer would stand behind the faulty equipment. All agreed that the tires should not wear that excessively however each blaming the other for the problem. Several posts on the internet state the same problem with this tire and this vehicle! I feel I have the right to have safe equipment on my vehicle an

Mazda is aware that the cx-7 is a horribly made car which can be noted with the extensive list of recalls which the company has put out since its creation. Engine failure being the biggest concern to the safety of people on the road. Engine failure at 70mph on a busy highway can result in death. Something should be done to have Mazda compensate all owners for defectice vehicles. My engine failed and Mazda was of no help.

We have a 2007 Mazda cx-7 with 67,000 miles on it. My wife was driving it on the highway, set the cruise control and moments later the engine died. Turns out the problem was caused by a timing chain on variable valve timing actuator failing and damaging the engine. We have read many other people that have had issue with the timing chain and vvt. Mazda is unwilling to assist us in replacing the damages. What upsets us most is my wife could have been injured or killed. *tr
