Fuel tank leak at the top of the tank. MB has well documented gasoline leaks for MB model 211 years 2003-2008. Notices were sent to owners of gas powered auto's but none were sent to DIESEL auto owners. The exact same procedure and parts are needed to repair DIESEL tanks as gasoline tanks. Either this is a oversight by MB or the problem was ignored. My DIESEL tank is leaking exactly as other documented gasoline MB vehicles model 211.

When I fill up the gas tank I notice a gas smell from outside of the car on the rear drivers side. When the fuel level drops to 3/4 full the smell disappears. I'm afraid of an explosion if I park in an enclosed garage
Had fuel tank sender units repaired to stop fuel leak , less than 2 years the tank is leaking again from the sender units , dealer would not repair it . *js
Have been smelling gas when tank is filled; goes off after driving for a while. Came to dealer for another problem and was told about tank leak. This has been the problem for a while, but did not realize it is a tank leak. *tr
Good morning, I purchased my 2007 Mercedes e350 in april of 2016 with a 161,000 miles on the car. I have noticed several weeks after, the car began to smell like gasoline fumes after, I filled up. I decided to partially fill up during the next visit. It does work sometimes . However, I now notice the pugent odor has become stronger. I drive with the back window partially down post fill-up to avoid being over-whelmed by fumes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that fuel was leaking from the vehicle and onto the rear seat. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the entire fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact did not call the manufacturer nor have the vehicle repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Fuel tank and fuel parts leaking. 2 repairs and car often smells of gasoline especially in the garage.
After filling gas tank, strong smell of gas in garage, especially around the rear of the vehicle, as if there was fuel overflow, but there was no fuel overflow at the filling station - did not top-off tank, stopped at first shut-off. *tr
After fueling the car a strong smell of raw gasoline is present from near the outside rear of the vehicle. Once the level of fuel drops below 1/2 tank the smell goes away. The smell is most noticeable after the car is parked and stationary.
Strong gas fumes inside the car. Started smelling it after 100,000
When filling up my gas tank I noticed a very strong odor of gasoline. Was very concerned that if someone nearby had been smoking fumes would have ignited. Also if traveling on the highway if someone had thrown out a lit cigarette who knows what would happen. I called the Mercedes stealership and they said it's my problem to fix it. I recently read about a recall for the same issue on 2010 and 2011 Mercedes...this is the same problem!! Look at the complaints filed here for the same issue......wake up NHTSA and include these models. Does a car need to blow up first??? *tr

After fueling my car, gasoline smell became intolerably strong. I called the dealer and they told me that the 2007 e350 is known for leaks and I should bring it for a diagnostic check. The manufacturer according to the dealer is aware but no federal action has been mandated. Estimates could range from $1000 to $2000. Bummer. *tr
Gas leak when fueling causing gasoline fumes in the vehicle. Very dangerous!! *tr
After fueling car, there is a strong raw fuel smell that permeates the car. It will last for about 40 miles then will subside. If you have not driven sufficient mileage before parking, the smell can last for days, weeks and/or months. If the car happens to be parked on an incline, the fumes are strong enough to keep you out of the car. *tr
Gasoline odor was smelled in/out after filling up. Found gas-leak beneath driver's rear seat, on top of gas tank, inside the cabin. Also found gas drops on garage floor. *tr
There is a strong smell of gasoline over 1/2 tank full, and frequent check engine lights on for an EVAP system leak. This is a known issue with these cars, and I am concerned to drive the vehicle with gasoline fumes coming inside the car and creating a fire hazard. Mercedes knows about this problem and needs to address it. *tr
NHTSA action# pe12001 strong fuel/gasoline odor smell coming from the drivers side rear wheel area. Fuel tank is filled to full (after it "clicks" off) and this is when the odor is most prevalent. The e350 is parked in a single, detached house's 2-car garage. Fuel/gasoline smell is particularly strong in the enclosed 2-car garage. I am afraid the these vapors will ignite when in an enclosed space with the furnace in the sharing the same space (being that it is winter time now and the furnace is now kicking on to heat my house). *tr
Very strong smell of gasoline outside the car when parked; and inside when driving or when stopped while driving slow. This happened a day after servicing the car transmission at the same dealership.took it back to dealer, they claim it's a very common issue and the car is hazardous to drive because gas leak is on top of exhaust and can start a fire. It needed $3,000 repairs (gas tank + fuel pump & sending unit.) I was driving a time bomb with my children the night before without realizing it. There should be a recall for this dangerous factory dangerous design & poor engineering quality of gas tank. *tr
Strong odor of gasoline after filling gas tank to registered full level. *tr
engine 1 complaint shown
Vehicle began shaking on the highway. It was coming from under the front hood and was shaking the steering wheel. The check engine light came on. I pulled over and had it towed to the Mercedes repair shop. They said it was related to a bad balance shaft and that it was a systemic problem with the engine in certain Mercedes e350s. I was told I needed to replace the camshaft and it would cost $6,000!!! After some research, it looks like Mercedes agreed, back in 2015, to cover only certain of these Mercedes, but there was no recall. I could have been killed if I was rear ended.
