Nissan is recalling 3,403 my 2009 altima vehicles equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels

If the lug nuts become loose, it could eventually result in a loss of control and a crash without warning.

Fix: Dealers will inspect the vehicle to determine if it is equipped with one of the affected wheels. If it is, the wheels will be replaced with new ones that have been manufactured to the correct specification. The recall is expected to begin during september 2008. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Expiration Notification - Alloy Wheels Campaign Summary: In 2009, Nissan launched a Voluntary Service Campaign on certain 2009 Model Year Nissan Altima 2.5 Sedan (L32) vehicles to inspect and, if necessary, replace the alloy wheels. It was determined that some of the subject vehicles equipped with 16 inch alloy wheels, may have been assembled with wheels that were manufactured slightly out of specification. Parts specified for this campaign are no longer available through Nissan. This customer service campaign and customer reimbursement for these repairs are no longer available. Electronic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) Voluntary Service Campaign ***** Campaign Summary***** Nissan is conducting a voluntary service campaign on specific MY2009-10 Nissan Altima (L32), Altima Coupe (CL32), Altima Hybrid (L32H), and Maxima (A35) vehicles to replace the existing ESCL with an Electronic Steering Column Box (ESCB). The ESCL locks the steering wheel when the vehicle is parked and turned off to help prevent theft. On some vehicles, due to a manufacturing regularity, the ESCL may malfunction after the vehicle is locked and could prevent the engine from starting. SERVICE INFORMATION When servicing run flat tires or low profile tires: - Special equipment and procedures are required to avoid damage. - Specifically, Tire Pressure Monitor transmitters (TPMS sensors) can be damaged when improperly dismounting and mounting tires. - TPMS sensors becoming damaged during mounting or dismounting tires are not covered under warranty. - To avoid such damage, ensure that the tire changer being used and the operator of the tire changer is capable of servicing run flat and low profile tires. - Operator?s manuals for such tire changers must be followed.
