A few days ago the pass air bag light came on even tho the pass seat was occupied.
Ignition was replaced under recall and now the passenger air bag light is on and will not go out and passenger side airbag is inop. ABS Ecm failed and replacement cost was $1300.00. This is a known issue and should be investigated. Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 Saturn sky. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated while driving various speeds. The vehicle was taken to gwatney Chevrolet (1301 tp white dr, jacksonville, ar 72076, (501) 295-4448) and stated that the contact would be responsible for the repair cost. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags); however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I was turning into my subdivision and as I entered a curve in the road my hand hit the key fob and the ignition turned off. I stopped as quick as possible and put the car in park and restarted the engine. Immediately the check engine and have air bags serviced lights came on and stayed on. I recently had the ignition replaced under recall but the lights stayed on. *tr
I took my 2009 Saturn sky redline to a gm dealer on 9/18/2018 for gm recall 17036. They performed the work (installed reinforcement), but less than 2 years later, with less than 2500 miles since the repair, the "service airbag" light came on. On 9/2/2020, I took it back to the dealer, who says the passenger seat sensor must be replaced, at a cost to me of $1182. This is a safety issue for which gm should be responsible. The car was barely used since the recall work was done, and it's obvious that the sensor was on the verge of failure at that time. Total mileage on the car now is 25,000.
Passenger airbag indicator light is on. Diagnostics indicate module must be replaced ($700.00 to $1100.00). Research indicates a replacement module may fail again.
Air bag light on passenger side has been on since 50,000 miles. Tested at dealer and it is the sensor system in the seat. To replace it it takes about 800 dollars.
The air bag sensor in my vehicle came on two days after dealer repaired the ignition recall. And I took it back and was informed that it would have to be replaced at my expense . Service manager informed me that is very common in this vehicle. I have owned gm vehicles for 25 years and never had a problem like this. In fact I have a 01 durmax that has 375 thousand miles and air bags system has never faulted. You do realize any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($800-$ 1000.00), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. I have been on many threads where thousands of people are having this problem. This is my daily driver and I have passengers in th
Passenger seat airbag sensor inoperable. Makes whole airbag system inoperable. With adult riding passenger in the passenger seat, passenger airbag off light is illuminated.
Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 Saturn sky. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called wallace Chevrolet (772-287-3232 located at 3575 se federal hwy, stuart, fl 34997) where it was confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Parts distribution disconnect. Updated 10/17/17*lj consumer stated air bags was fixed, but the light on the dash board was not. Updated 10/4/18*jb
The vehicles air bag warning light appeared in my dash upon starting my vehicle today. The passenger seat is not registering that someone is sitting in the seat. According to gm {owner of the late Saturn)the passenger airbag will not deploy if I were to get into an accident while the light is illuminated and quoted me almost $1,100.00 to fix it. My friends sky is doing the same thing, everyone seems to be driving around with faulty airbag systems! How is this not a safety issue? Recall! *tr
After starting the engine, the passenger entered the vehicle and the "service air bag" light came on in the dic when they sat down. The passenger side air bag indicator said the air bag was "off". After the passenger exited the vehicle, the warning remained and the indicator lights still said "off". Disconnecting the battery and resetting made no difference. It appears that the air bag will not deploy in an accident creating a dangerous situation. *tr
Yearly, I try to get my airbag recall completed and no dealership can support my request.
In 2019 I took my car in for a recall I had received. It was for the PPS. Instead of replacing the faulty system, they simply put a "reinforcement" piece of tape over the faulty system. I rarely drive the car and I rarely have passengers. 2 years and almost 5k miles later, now the faulty system is broken. The sensor in the seat has failed. No surprise there. The dealership is trying to charge me $1400 to replace the faulty sensor that should have been replaced 2 years ago. This is causing anyone who possible is a passenger in my car to be at risk, since now that the sensor is broken, the air bag will not deploy. Other people with this car have had or are having the same issue. I do not understand why a tape fix was approved and implemented for something so serious as the safety of my passe

This is in reference to the faulty air bag sensor in the seats of the Saturn sky's and Pontiac solstice. A known defect in the air bag sensor in the seats is leading to an expensive fix for gm owners. The "service air bag" light illuminates due to a faulty craftsmanship in the seat sensor. This could possibly cause the airbag system to not function properly. It is a widespread problem with these cars and really started to take place for a lot of people after the ignition recall. The replacement part and labor is costing around $900 for the repair of one seat when the parts can be ordered form germany for around $80. Gm knows and really needs to address this issue before this malfunction causes some type of bodily harm.
2009 Saturn sky. Consumer writes in regards to ignition and start switch recall parts issue. *smd the consumer called the dealer three time, only to be told the parts were not available, but they had been ordered. The consumer referenced recalls 14v047000 and 14v171000. *jb
Got the ignition switch replaced and now the service air bag light wont go off. This results in the passenger side seat and should be a recall!!! The car is not safe to drive with anyone in the car because the air bags will not deploy. I never had this issue until I got the ignition recalled. *js

At start up after turning on the a/c the radiator/condenser cooling fan assembly malfunctioned causing the fan to "lock-up". The vehicle began to over heat and the fan assembly began smoking. I'm glad I noticed this at start up and not in normal driving in wich the vehicle could blow up causing injury or fatality to myself and/or others near the vehicle. Yet another safety issue with my Saturn sky! *tr
