Today the third door handle has broken on my Hyundai sonata in six year. This is a very common problem. Stay away from this make and model.

Rear driver door handle just fell off the car when trying to open door. Had to replace entire handle assembly. Never had this ever happen in any car I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few older cars. *tr

Both rear door handles broke off. Both handles broke in the same place weeks apart from each other. The car was in park. I was opening the door like normal with no excessive force on both handles. How can I get my children out of the car in an emergency when the handles break off? Especially when the child lock is engaged. The door won't open from the inside or out. Will Hyundai wait until children die to act on this complaint?

"handle issue" my vehicle has around 74k miles on it and so far every handle has broken off in the winter. After the first handle broke I was more careful during the winter on opening the doors. This is not a cheap fix.

The rear driver-side door handle fell off the vehicle; the plastic used to attach the handle to the interior portion of the mechanism simply broke inside the door -- no damage had been done prior to the handle and it was not used harshly. The passenger-side front door handle has become very loose and the plastic on the inside of the door handle appears to be cracking. *tr

Both of the rear passenger door handles broke off of the doors within two weeks of each other, under normal use. At the time of the incident, my wife's 2010 sonata had just over 78,000 miles on the odometer, just over the 75000 bumper to bumper warranty. I contacted the service department at the dealership on two separate occasions, and was told that the handles were not covered under warranty and that my best option would be to contact Hyundai america to seek a resolution. I did that and opened a case with them. After providing information on the vehicle, I was told that there was no recall for the components and none was being considered. I believe that this is a major safety concern for the vehicle if a rescue attempt had to be made. Not to mention that this is a terrible inconvenien

My wife and I purchased this vehicle new. The problem we have had in the last week is that the rear passenger out sise door handle just broke for no apparent reason. I figured this was somthing that just sometimes happens. I got on thd internet to buy a replacement and there are tons of people with the same problem. So I thought this is a safety problem for anyone in the car in case of an accident. No one can get in the car to help if these door handles break off when someone is trying to rescue you. Last night my wife came home and said that her passenger door did the same thing. Two door handles broke off in less then one week. This car has only 34000 miles on it and I think there needs to be a recall on these handles. My wife has our gran children riding in the back at times and

The third door handle in a year has broken. Earlier this year, my drivers rear and passenger front door handles both broke in a weeks time. I contacted a local dealership, they told me it was a known problem but there was nothing they could was because Hyundai didny recognize it as a safety recall. I contacted corporate, who agreed to replace the two. Last week my drivers front door handle broken. Luckily I am physically able to crawl across the passenger seat as I wasn't at home and needed to get into my car. I once again contacted corporate who told me they wouldn't fix it as it is out of warranty and normal wear and year, and they already gave me two "good will" fixes. This is a safety issue. A 7 year old vehicle with 105k miles should not have 3 broken door handles. Researching onlin

Back rear brakes have needed constant replacing since the first replacement in 2013 at 41,658 miles---rear pads and rotars. Eight mos. Later at 48,900, replaced the rear rotars and pads again. Two weeks later at 49,247, replaced rear left flex brake hose and caliper, and deglazed pads and rotars. Six months later at 56,199, the right rear brake was metal to metal and binding--replaced right rear caliper, rotar, and pads. Today, dec. 29, 2015, with mileage at 67,950, had to fix the back left brakes which emitted a terrible burning smell when used. The mechanic replaced, under warranty, the whole back set of brakes (rotars, calipers, pads). The lug nuts and studs were all seized up from the heat of the left rear brake failure and had to be forcibly removed and replaced by the mechanic. Ther

The rear driver side brake was making a grinding noise. Took to the shop and they say the caliper is working uneven and causing the pad to brake down faster than normal, it was on bare medal. Could this be the crossbar recall causing this to get uneven or an unrelated item? The other side still had 40% pad on it. This seems like a problem to me. *tr

We had to replace the rear brake pads in august 2013 and now in december 2013 having an issue with the rear driver side pad sticking. After hearing the grinding noise again I took it to the repair shop. They are replacing the rotor, pads and calipers for failure to function at a cost of $400. The front pads were still in good condition. These are Hyundai OEM brakes. I have been reading numerous complaints about rear brake issues on other 2010 Hyundai vehicles. I have also read that there is a class action law suite in new york over this same issue. I wanted to make a report and possibly find out if there are any plans for an investigation. Hyundai does not seem to have any plans to recall since the issue seems to have existed along time. This is far from normal wear and tear and at the cos

Subject: Non-Collision Engine Compartment Fire - 2010 Hyundai Sonata (VIN: [XXX] ) "On dec 19 2025, my 2010 Hyundai Sonata suffered a sudden, non-collision fire that originated in the engine compartment. While there are currently no 'open' recalls on this VIN, I am formally reporting this incident as it matches the failure patterns documented in NHTSA Defect Petition DP18-003 regarding non-crash fires in Hyundai/Kia vehicles. Preliminary inspection of the damage shows characteristic signs of a manufacturer defect, specifically potentially related to a connecting rod bearing failure leading to an engine block puncture and oil ignition, or an electrical short in the ABS module—both of which have been subjects of major Hyundai fire investigations and class-action settlements (e.g., Engine

The electronic stability control (ESC) turns off randomly by its self while the car engine is on. Pressing the ESC button to turn ESC back on does not work. Turning off the engine and then turning it back on sometimes takes care of the problem. When the ESC is off, the breaking system is severely affected where even with a relatively light press on the brakes can result in the locking of the tires. *tr

My son was recently in two accidents involving Hyundai sonatas. Both vehicles were totaled. In the first accident, he was driving a 2010 Hyundai sonata. He fell asleep driving home one night and hit a guardrail with the left front panel. The car continued to slam into the guardrail all the way down the left side. No airbags deployed! Four days ago, while driving a 2009 Hyundai sonata, he slid on wet pavement and went down an embankment. He hit a large rock protruding from the ground causing the car to flip onto its roof. It continued to slide downhill until it finally came to a stop upside down. Again, not one airbag deployed! By the grace of god my son walked away from both accidents with only minor injuries. I am concerned that both these vehicles have significant airbag prote
