Is there a fix? Manufacturer service bulletins

The manufacturer has issued service bulletins covering airbags on this vehicle — documented repair instructions, service campaigns, or warranty extensions sent to dealers. A TSB isn't a recall (it's not a free safety remedy), but it's the manufacturer acknowledging the issue and how to fix it.

The failure pattern owners describe

All ten complaints center on the Takata SDI driver-side airbag recall (NHTSA Campaign 16V078000) issued to 2011 Eos owners in February–April 2016. Nine complaints directly address parts shortages and repair delays.

Owners consistently report receiving recall notices but being unable to schedule repairs because replacement airbags were unavailable. Several waited six months to over a year without a fix. One owner received an interim repair that swapped the original defective airbag for a replacement module without a drying agent—explicitly temporary. This owner notes the interim measure left the design defect unaddressed and later found no active recall listed on the vehicle, creating confusion about whether permanent repairs would ever happen.

Owners express serious concern about driving vehicles with known dangerous inflators, especially given the long delays and Volkswagen's apparent inability or unwillingness to source alternative suppliers. The manufacturer acknowledged the issue but could not deliver permanent parts in a timely manner.

One unrelated complaint reports airbag non-deployment during a multi-vehicle collision, though no direct connection to the Takata defect is claimed.

Failure modes owners describe

Takata Driver Frontal Airbag – Recall Parts Unavailable

Owners received NHTSA recall notices (Campaign 16V078000) starting February–April 2016 for defective Takata SDI driver-side airbag inflators, but replacement parts remained unavailable for extended periods. One owner received an interim repair swapping the original airbag with a replacement module lacking a drying agent, explicitly labeled as temporary until a redesigned unit became available. Most owners report waiting over six months to a year without repair options, leaving them driving vehicles with known defective airbags.

When: Recall notices issued February–April 2016; parts still unavailable 6–12+ months later

Symptoms owners cite: Recall notice received but no repair parts available; Long delays (6+ months to 1+ year) before repair could be completed; Uncertainty about recall status and future fix availability; Interim repairs acknowledged as temporary measure, not final solution

Codes mentioned: NHTSA Campaign 16V078000

Repairs/costs cited: Interim repair available swapped original airbag with replacement module without drying agent; permanent redesigned replacement not available during reported timeframe. No costs cited.

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: NHTSA Campaign 16V078000 (Takata recall); interim repair offered; permanent parts unavailable; recall status later showed no active recalls despite unresolved design defect

Airbag Non-Deployment in Crash

One owner reported a collision (rear-impact, multi-vehicle crash) in which the vehicle was totaled but the airbags failed to deploy, though no explicit causal link to the Takata recall defect is stated in the narrative.

When: Timing not specified

Symptoms owners cite: Airbags did not deploy during multi-vehicle collision while vehicle was being pushed into another car

Repairs/costs cited: Vehicle was totaled; airbag deployment failure noted but no repair details provided.
