The failure pattern owners describe

Owners of 2013 Chevrolet Sonics describe widespread electrical problems that often defy permanent repair. The most dangerous is Code 84 power reduction mode, which activates randomly during highway driving and cuts acceleration without warning—multiple owners report near-accidents. Pedal assembly replacements haven't solved it, and mechanics admit they can't find the electrical source.

Instrument clusters fail in two ways: odometers and trip meters stop displaying numbers and show only dashes, or the entire gauge panel glitches with wildly fluctuating speed and RPM readings while turn signals die. These failures persist after battery disconnects or fuse pulls, and dealerships charge $700+ nonrefundable diagnostic fees.

Door locks malfunction unpredictably, leaving owners locked in or locked out. The MyLink stereo system activates and changes stations by itself, calls contacts randomly (including 911), and plays music while parked. Key fobs stuck in ignitions, power steering losses requiring battery post taps to restore, and rear window defrosters that melt internally and cause glass implosion are all documented. Cold weather triggers middle console blackouts affecting directional lights. Owners report 44 separate complaints here, and mechanics consistently say they can't identify root causes despite repeated visits.
