What stands out

Is there a fix? Manufacturer service bulletins
The manufacturer has issued service bulletins covering airbags on this vehicle — documented
repair instructions, service campaigns, or warranty extensions sent to dealers. A TSB isn't a recall
(it's not a free safety remedy), but it's the manufacturer acknowledging the issue and how to fix it.

The failure pattern owners describe
Owners describe two distinct airbag problems in the 2013 Azera. First, non-deployment: two owners were in significant collisions—one a rear-end impact that destroyed the front end at 140,000 miles, another a side impact into a guardrail—and airbags did not fire. Both drivers and passengers sustained serious injuries including concussions, chest trauma, and knee/shoulder damage.
Second, clockspring failures trigger persistent airbag warning lights. Multiple owners report the light coming on spontaneously—sometimes overnight, sometimes on startup—with no collision or known cause. Diagnostic scans point to clockspring out-of-spec or trouble code 1346 (No Resistance to Air Bag). These failures occur early: 53,000 miles, 76,581 miles, and 83,000 miles. One owner had water blow into the cabin through a cracked window during a storm and the light came on; the dealer refused warranty coverage. A fourth issue involves passenger airbag warning lights remaining lit even with no occupant in the seat. Owners were repeatedly told clockspring replacement was necessary—sometimes at dealer cost—but several chose not to repair due to warranty denials or expense.
Failure modes owners describe
Airbag Non-Deployment in Collision
Front airbags failed to deploy during high-impact frontal and side-impact collisions, leaving occupants unprotected.
When: 140,000 miles (#1); impact collision (#6)
Symptoms owners cite: No airbag deployment during severe frontal collision; No airbag deployment during right-side impact and guardrail strike
Repairs/costs cited: Vehicles were totaled; no repairs noted
Clockspring Failure with Airbag Warning Light
Clockspring component in the steering wheel fails, triggering the airbag warning light and disabling airbag functionality. Owners report this occurs without collision, accident, or known cause.
When: 76,581 miles (#4); 83,000 miles (#2); unknown mileage (#3); 53,000 miles (#9); spontaneously upon startup or overnight parking (#7, #8, #9)
Symptoms owners cite: Airbag warning light illuminates; SRS light on; Clockspring out of spec
Codes mentioned:1346 (No Resistance to Air Bag) (#2), Clockspring-related code (#8)
Repairs/costs cited: Clockspring replacement required (#3, #4, #7, #9); not repaired in several cases due to cost or warranty denial
Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Folsom Lake Hyundai diagnosed clockspring issue (#4); warranty denial for water damage (#5)
Airbag Warning Light from Water Exposure
Small amount of water entered vehicle through slightly open window during storm, triggering airbag warning light that persists. Dealer refused warranty coverage.
When: Unknown mileage (#5)
Symptoms owners cite: Airbag warning light illuminated and remains on
Repairs/costs cited: Dealer refused warranty repair, claiming vehicle not designed for water ingress
Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Warranty denial
Passenger Airbag Warning Light with Unknown Cause
Passenger-side airbag warning light illuminates without obvious trigger; some cases involve secondary electrical issues.
When: Unknown mileage (#3, #10, #11)
Symptoms owners cite: Passenger airbag warning light on; Airbag light remains on even when no one in passenger seat (#10); Airbags supposedly will not inflate (#11)
Repairs/costs cited: Unknown (#10, #11); radio volume failure also present (#3)

Car was parked overnight in my driveway. The next morning I got up, started my car and now the air bag light is on. Dealer says I need a new clockspring. My car has 53000 miles. No accidents, oil changes every 3000 miles. How does this happen. Its clearly a manufacturing problem with Hyundai.

My SRS light is on so I took my car to the dealer to find out why. I was told and is on my paperwork that vehicle has code associated with clockspring and is out of spec. Car was stationery and when I drove it to work one morning the light was on. It's not something I caused and really don't seam like a normal issue.
