The steering wheel at times when even making a slight turn pops back and shakes. Restricting the turn the wipers have now multiple times in rain stopped in the upright positions causing a grave driving hazard
I first noticed the problem last winter, when we would drive our explorer in the snow the car would pull in random directions, it got to the point where I was scared to drive the car in feet I would be pulled into on coming traffic. I took it to a mechanic and they couldn't find anything wrong other than my rear shocks were bad, so I replaced them. Then over the summer I noticed when I turn going at slow speeds the car would make a loud pop and sometimes the steering would get stuck when it poped, so I did some research a though maybe it was my toe links. So I just replaced them and this car is still terrifying to drive in the snow. I have seen that a concerning number of people have had this same issue and they end up replacing their rack and pinion and it costs thousands of dollars.
With less than 30,000 miles, my steering began to bind when turned fully to the left or right. This was only noticeable at low speeds, but due to my concerns about the safety hazards of steering failures I took it to dealer for an evaluation. They reported that the steering module had failed and it would cost >$2300 to repair. My warranty expired due to time (42 months) so unless Ford offers a warranty extension I will have to pay an exorbitant amount for what should never fail - certainly not with less than 30,000 miles. I do not know what would have happened had I not brought the car in immediately, but the need to replace the steering system suggests it was very serious.

Purchased a used 2016 Ford explorer w/24k on 8/23/16. Cab fills with carbon monoxide. Called dealership, we were 260 miles away, they said it was an easy fix, was told to turn off recycle for our trip back. Took vehicle back to dealership. They were aware of the problem and used tsb fix for this problem. I talked to the finance manager and he said he was in the process of backing out a deal because of this very same problem and when asked if they couldn't fix it what would happen? I was told they'd have to get us into something else. The fix was to re-calibrated the recycle switch to turn off upon heavy acceleration. The problem is we live in arizona, to use max ac, the recycle feature has to be on. Took vehicle back to dealership for this problem and other items needing fixed. Was inform
At around 50,000 miles the Turbo on the engine was leaking oil. Dealer replaced the turbo and kept the part. It needed to be replaced to avoid a catastrophic failure of the turbo which in turn could cause severe engine oil loss resulting in engine failure and oil contamination of the catalytic converters O2 sensors and possibly a car fire. There was no warning but was caught during a routine oil change. Unknown if the dealer reported it.
Coolant (water) pump leak, leading to replacement or eventual failure. As the pump is located internally of the engine, the effort to repair is quite extensive. This is a known issue for this engine, with previous versions under a recall. The pump location was relocated externally of the engine in future designs, further evidence of the knowledge of the issue.

The rear windshield spontaneously shattered while driving on 495 south in ma. Fortunately no one was injured and the glass remained intact to pull off to safety. With the impact of the car door opening and closing, pieces of glass began to break away.
Backup camera is cloudy/foggy. Brought it to ford service department attention in regards to Issue Date 2022-08-26 Campaign 22S51/22V644 Per Fullerton Ford, they would not participate. I feel this is a visability issue when backing up and would like Ford to also consider 2016 ford Explorer in this recall since it is a safety issue

Purchased 2016 Ford explorer new. Has 4567 miles on it. Starting noticing a popping sound under foot floor board driver side whenever I first start the vehicle and move forward to about 7 miles per hour about two months after purchase. Noise does not happen anytime after the first pop while driving, only when you first start the vehicle and move forward at about 7 MPH. Took to Ford dealer to have the noise checked out they adjusted the front bridge link bolt as per tsb 15-0186 and said the noise was gone. I went to pick up the vehicle and as soon as I moved forward at about 7mph the popping noise came back. Talked to service writer and he talked to someone else and they said that this was a normal noise and all 2106 explorers did this. They got another 2016 explorer like mine from the lot
There has not yet been an incident, however, the Ford dealer is not returning any calls or service schedule requests to have the RECALL repairs done, and I am concerned the problems may become worse to the point that there is an incident. Can NHTSA force Ford to get their dealers to prioritize recall repairs?

Using a pedal commander pc18 bluetooth "throttle enhancer" in an emergency vehicle equipped with a vhf mobile two-way radio. The radio transmits at 50w and is installed by a professional emergency vehicle upfitter per manufacturers instructions. When transmitting in the 156mhz range the pedal command consistently and unexpectedly causes the vehicle to begin accelerating when in drive, and increasing the RPM of the engine in park. The acceleration continues as long as the user is transmitting on the two-way radio. As soon as the transmissing ends the vehicle goes back to idle or rpms consistent with the pedal position. These symptoms go away as soon as the pc18 is removed. This issue was also experienced by other users with pc18 and radios that transmit in the mid 150mhz range.
