On my 2016 Toyota tundra 1794 edition, with headlights in "auto" position, when I use turn signal, the headlights, taillights and dash lights all occasionally turn off. Once turn signal shuts off, lights come back on . It typically happens at night when it's cold out. It has now happened probably half a dozen times in the last six months. While problem is intermittent, it's very scary, as I'm…

I have a serious safety concern regarding the lack of daytime vehicle instrument illumination on my new 2016 Toyota tundra (while driving, stationary and on all roads) during the day. As an elder adult who wears sunglasses to protect their eyes (on the recommendation of the medical profession) the dash board (specifically the speedometer indicator) is barely discernible. Even without sunglasses…

All lights (headlamps and tail lamps and instrument panel) turn off when using turn signal. This typically happens when changing lanes at highway speed. I am not the only one experiencing this problem. Seems to occur in 2015-2017 Toyota tundras (1794 & platinum editions). See thread. Common questions

How serious is the electrical problem on the 2016 Toyota Tundra?

It's a documented issue but not catastrophic. 25 complaints have been filed. Repairs average $850 and most owners catch it before it causes a breakdown.

At what mileage does the electrical typically fail?

Across the 17 complaints that reported odometer mileage, most electrical failures cluster between 5,000 and 68,000 miles, with the median around 15,000. A quarter of owners report trouble before 5,000; a quarter make it past 68,000. Maintenance history matters more than the odometer alone — this is the reported failure window, not a guarantee.

What does it cost to fix?

Independent shops typically charge around $850 for electrical repairs on this vehicle. Dealer pricing tends to run 20-40% higher. The exact figure depends on the specific failure mode, parts availability, and your local labor rates. If you're outside factory warranty, an extended service contract often covers this category.

Are there any recalls related to electrical?

No active recalls currently cover electrical issues on this vehicle. The complaints filed represent owner-reported failures that haven't risen to the level of a manufacturer-issued recall — but they're still worth knowing about before you buy or budget for repairs.
