My 2017 Chevy malibu has periodically showed a reduced power mode alert in the dash while driving and then the car drops down to under 40 MPH and when I push the gas it won't accelerate. The check engine light comes on every time but within days it goes off and drives fine until it happens again with no warning. My husband was driving 70 on the interstate when it first happened and almost wrecked because of it! I have called the dealership where they tell me they don't know why it's doing it and to just bring it in. I had the engine codes pulled and was told it was a sensor and acceleration pedal. I've read several posts about what's wrong with it and everyone says even after having it fixed it goes out again within time. It's really dangerous when yours driving at high speeds with traffic

Car voltage stays very high (between 14.8 and 15 volts) for extended periods of time. At which point the windows have fogged up and there is a raw egg smell in the cabin - probably Sulfur. Both the hybrid and the 12v car battery are located in the truck and there are vents that draw air from the cabin to ventilate those batteries. The car voltage will also stay at 12.5 to 12.6 for extended periods of time. During both high and low periods numerous internal systems have failed, including bit not limited to steering assist, anti-locks bakes, Stabilitrack, On star, Hybrid Control Processor and ECM. Car has been brought to the dealer 3 times. First time (early November 2021) it was diagnosed with an hybrid inverter and a software update was installed. Issues continued. As of 12/28/21, Coggin C
Reduced engine power warning 12/29/20 plus numerous occurrences in 2019 while driving on the highway; vehicle slows to 40mph without warning shift to park warning when vehicle already in park, can't shut off vehicle until it recognizes park, often taking upwards of 10 minutes of repeated shifting stabilitrack sensor warning and loss of cruise control, at highway speeds
Driving on highway at about 65 mph on family trip to Delaware. . Car suddenly gave reduced acceleration error and speed started declining while in traffic. No warning.checked chevron app on phone and it did not see anything wrong. There was NO check engine or anything. Got to a dealer and they said it was probably a sensor for gas pedal. 5 days later driving home to Georgia from trip on highway around same rate of speed. No warning . The check engine light and reduced engine power warning message came on. This time the Chevrolet app notified me of trouble and said I needed the car seen within a day. .Got to a dealer and now they say they think it may be the cam shaft based on the code but they cannot replicate issue. I took a photo of the alert from the second incident . Car has about 46
Dash warning says action required....shift to park. But the car is already in park. Car will not shut off til you get it in park. Sometimes need to start and restart car a dozen times to get it to stop the error. This is a known problem with late model malibu's. Tsb # 19-na-206. Repair cost approximately $300. This happens at random times, making the vehicle unreliable. Need to do a recall!

We own a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu plagued with the "Shift to Park" issue. I have read numerous articles regarding this issue and they reference a recall on this problem. However, I have been unsuccessful locating this document. Was a recall actually ever created for this issue; and, if so, where could I find it?
Within 1 year I bought brand new hybrid malibu car from Chevy dealer, I had experienced dead 12v battery. Dealer replaced the battery which I paid even though I thought it should be within warranty. Last night I experienced 3rd dead battery again after I parked the car for 7 hrs office work. The 2nd time dead battery occured was last june 2019 only, dealer also replaced the battry. Its a 3rd time that I experience dead battery (stationary/parked) for brand new car 2017 hybrid malibu within 2 years. Obviously its not the battery issue but its design of electrical system. Before and during the battery issue, I got stabilitrak light on and steering assist in reduced alarm as well. I just want to vent my frustation with this brand new car. Hope other car owners will benefit from this info.
Vehicle has multiple times a day "reduced engine power" error displayed and will suddenly stall anywhere in traffic causing dangerous situations. People who not familiar with this. Will have to stop on the side of the road and exit the vehicle to check what is wrong and risk possibly beeing hit and killeother d by another vehicle. This feature should not be allowed on any vehicle. It causes endagermemt for drivers and other traffic. It is a needless feature. If any sensor is bad it already gets displayed by the check engine light. There is absolutely no reason to on top of it stall the vehicle causing extremely dangerous situations for the driver and other traffic.
Was driving to work at 5:00 am today and merged onto a busy highway. After accelerating to 60 mph, there was a message that appear on my dashboard that read engine power reduced. It was not safe traveling at the speed that I was. The check engine light came on as well as the Stability Control symbol and my car reduced its speed and would not accelerate back to a safe speed. I am going to take it to the dealership and try to get the problem diagnosed. I really hope this issue gets resolved.

While driving going at least 70 MPH I get a engine power reduced message and it start happening every 10 minutes now as soon as you turn the car on it says engine power reduced and won't go over 30 MPH. Had it hooked up to a machine and was told it was my accelerator which apparently is a issue in the 2017 malibu's
Reduced speed engine problem will reduce speed while driving
The car randomly will reduce engine power, lowering speeds to 20mph or less. This happens unexpectedly. This has occured over 20 times over the past 7 days, including on the highway. I was driving on the highway at 70mph and the immediately dropped to 20mph, causing me to swerve to the shoulder and almost was hit by three on coming vehicles at high rates of speed.
While driving at highway speeds, my vehicle suddenly experienced a loss of engine power and reduced acceleration. The traction control light and engine light illuminated, and a “Reduced Engine Power” message appeared. The vehicle would not respond to the accelerator, creating a serious safety hazard. This occurred shortly after authorized dealer service involving the PCV system and related components. The vehicle did not have this issue prior to dealer service. I returned the vehicle to the dealer, and they stated they could not replicate the issue. The sudden loss of power could have resulted in a serious accident. I believe this may be related to improper dealer service, disturbed electrical connectors, or throttle body/engine management components. I am reporting this as a safety conc

I purchased my 2017 Chevrolet malibu in october of 2017. Since I have had the vehicle the interior carpet comes untucked from the trim. Chevrolet indicates it is a big problem and is a common problem. The do not have a fix to address the issue. If the carpet comes lose will be a hazard to drivers.

While driving on 12/28/2022, my brakes suddenly became very difficult to apply pressure- almost causing a cramp in my calf because I had to press down so hard. Took the car to a repair shop, only for them to tell me my brake pads are fine. It turns out the problem is with the vacuum pump associated with that part of the car. Looked online to see if this was a common problem and as it turns out, there's a class action lawsuit in litigation about this very issue.
