Oil doesn’t read correctly Might be issue with oil pump
I am submitting this complaint regarding a potential safety defect involving the engine lubrication system on my 2020 BMW M340i with the B58 engine. The vehicle was purchased used from a single owner with low mileage and comprehensive maintenance records, with no indication of prior engine or lubrication issues. While traveling at highway speed, the vehicle suddenly displayed a low oil pressure warning and simultaneously entered a protective shutdown strategy, resulting in a significant loss of engine power. This forced me to rapidly slow down and merge across multiple lanes of traffic to reach the shoulder, creating a dangerous situation with a substantial risk of a rear-end or multi-vehicle collision. There were no warning lights, fault messages, drivability concerns, or other symptoms b
Oil measurement fails at 20%, unable to tell how much oil is in engine, can lead to severe engine damage where the engine seizes and you loose power brakes and steering. Dealer says only fix is oil pump replacement.
Engine oil pump is failing. Early production 2019-2020 model years are made of plastic which can crack and break resulting in engine failure while driving. This is a well documented issue regarding the BMW B58 Engine (2nd Generation) They have since updated the engine oil pump part to a durable metal pump on newer models leaving the older ones with the bad part with no resolution. The vehicle no longer measures the oil level and is a symptom of the pump starting to fail. There is no telling when it may go out and it will be too late at that point as it results in complete engine failure/seizure while driving without proper pressure and lubrication. The local BMW Dealer says they are unable to help as BMW does not have a recall or technical service bulletin addressing this issue leaving own

Oil pump common issue of made out plastic cause miss interpretation of oil pressure. Developing engine issues under 50k miles
Hi. I’d like to point out I have not had an incident YET thankfully. However, I want to highlight that the early M340i production releases (2019 and 2020) are HIGHLY likely to experience catastrophic engine failure due to an oil pump being made of plastic on some models. Of the 20 or so complaints listed under this vehicle on NHTSA, I’ve already seen PLENTY of complaints regarding this issue and people actually experiencing this issue. I believe if a car has a fair chance of causing catastrophic damage to its engine on its own, it poses as a safety risk for anyone in or around the car. The fix is to spend $6000-$7000 to have the oil pump replaced with the new 2021 oil pump, but most normal people cannot afford that easily and are driving around with plastic pumps still hoping for the best.
The front collision system does not work. Early warning rarely comes on, and in a recent near crash on the dallas north tollway, it never came on. Every now and then, the early warning front collision warning will come on for a second, but there is no reason for it. I took it to the local dealership (classic BMW) and they said it is operating as normal ,although to prove it they had to tailgate cars at 75 MPH to simply get the early warning light to illuminate a few times. They never got the imminate crash warning to come on. This system is unsafe and does not provide the protection it advertises. I've driven several other makes that had this system, and the early warning comes on very early, when you are barely near the car in front of you.
Oil pump failure, causing inability to read oil level. Also flickering oil light on and off. After some research noticed it was happening to a lot of others as well due to oil pump being made with plastic internals. BMW has since updated to a new pump with metal internal the next year however never recalled old pumps.
I was driving on the highway at approximately 70 MPH, the posted limit, when all of a sudden the sunroof exploded. It sounded like a gunshot and I almost lost control of the vehicle. Luckily the headliner was closed so the glass did not enter the cabin. There were no vehicles in front of us for at least 1 mile and no overpasses or rocks that I saw or heard hitting the vehicle. It is a stock vehicle with 5200 miles on it.

The starter malfunctioned causing electrical damage to the motor and related components. Although there is literature that exists that this is a potential problem for this vehichle, BMW refuses to fix the problem and is asking me to pay. My warranty is expired by 4 months, but I have only 37,800 miles. The fact that there are 105K vehicles with this potential problem is evidence that this problem exists. They should be paying for what is an obvious manufacturer defect.
Engine starter was faulty resulting in repeated attempts to start the engine using excessively long starting attempts and warnings from my car of overheating. At a traffic light, my car went into auto-off and then shut down and I was unable to restart the car leaving me stuck at a busy intersection. I received police support and a tow to the BMW Buena Park dealership. The dealership informed me the issue could be related to an open recall (B120524) which relates to the starter. The dealership replaced the starter but claims the issue is not related to the recall. I have sought for over a month information from the dealership to explain how they determined the faulty starter and recall are not related and have not received anything.
Starter went bad which lead to shortage within the lithium ion battery and regular battery. Car came to a stop and did not move in an intersection, blocking both lanes of traffic. Furthermore, car could not be put into neutral as it could not be started. There was smoke emanating from the engine on further restart attempts. Car had to be towed where it was determine this was the problem. Warning message during re-start "engine overheated" though temperate guage suggested it was still cold.
Brought my car in for a starter recall picked it up next day and drove home then came out to turn my vehicle on again and it wouldn’t start. Burning smell from engine bay as well. Returned the car they inspected it and told me a faulty starter. When I brought the car in it was in perfect working condition I only brought it for the recall. I was then held accountable for 25% of repair costs.
tires 1 complaint shown
I have owned my 2020 BMW m340iX for 2 years. During that time I have had 5 tires blow out, including 3 in the past 3 months alone. The tires are "run flat" and need to be completely replaced if they develop any issues. The dealer I use for service, who is owned by the manufacturer, says it is simply wear and tear - but this pattern is concerning and a potential safety issue for the car and tires.
