Is there a fix? Manufacturer service bulletins

The manufacturer has issued service bulletins covering powertrain on this vehicle — documented repair instructions, service campaigns, or warranty extensions sent to dealers. A TSB isn't a recall (it's not a free safety remedy), but it's the manufacturer acknowledging the issue and how to fix it.

Service Bulletin 24-DS-001G-1 TSB Oct 2024

Certain GV70 (JK1, JK1A), GV80 (JX1) and G80 (RG3) vehicles may have a hum or whine noise condition from the rear differential at certain speeds. This bulletin describes the procedure to inspect the vehicle for the hum or whine noise and if necessary to tighten the rear differential lock nut first. If the hum or whine noise remains, then replace the rear differential or other driveline components as necessary.

The failure pattern owners describe

The 18 complaints document a powertrain that breaks down across multiple systems, often early and without warning. Engine shutdowns while driving are the most dangerous—vehicles lose power on freeways, in roundabouts, and in heavy traffic with no dashboard codes appearing beforehand. Drivers restart and the problem recurs, forcing emergency stops and towing. Acceleration gets restricted to 30–40 mph despite full throttle, or accelerates unexpectedly on its own.

Differential and transfer case failures disable vehicles entirely. Warning lights for limited slip differential appear, then the car won't shift into gear. AWD systems drop out, leaving only rear-wheel drive. Transfer cases need replacement on vehicles with under 5,000 miles. One owner was stranded for two months waiting for parts while the dealer said the car might be unsafe but couldn't confirm it.

Coolant leaks recur despite multiple repairs at different dealerships, with no sensor warnings despite significant loss—raising questions about whether the monitoring system works. One transmission was replaced but grinding persists. The fuel pump recall is mentioned once but a dealer refused service to a non-original owner.

Across all complaints, dealers pile up with backlog cases, can't diagnose root causes, parts stay unavailable, and owners describe loaners as unavailable and service appointments months out. No permanent fixes emerge from repeated attempts.

Failure modes owners describe

Differential/Limited Slip Differential Failure

Limited slip differential warnings appearing on dashboard, often accompanied by inability to shift into gear. Multiple owners report differential issues rendering vehicles inoperable while parked or driving. Transfer case failure confirmed by dealers on several vehicles.

When: Early in ownership; one vehicle at 4,977 miles

Symptoms owners cite: Limited slip differential warning on dashboard; Multiple driver assist warnings flashing; Inability to shift into gear; Whining/grinding noise from drivetrain; Loud banging sounds while moving forward; Drivetrain locked; vehicle immobile in reverse even in neutral; Four-wheel drive system disengages, power to rear wheels only

Repairs/costs cited: Transfer case replacement required; dealers have backlog of similar cases; parts availability delayed

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: No recall issued; dealers performing multiple repairs for same issue without permanent resolution

Coolant System Failure

Recurring coolant leaks despite multiple dealer repairs across separate service visits. Root cause unidentified despite inspections at two authorized service centers. No warning lights appear despite significant coolant loss.

When: April 2024, April 29 2024, October 25 2024

Symptoms owners cite: Coolant leak from system; Low coolant levels; Engine sounding louder than normal; No warning light on dashboard despite coolant loss; Risk of engine overheating, sudden power loss, or engine failure

Repairs/costs cited: Multiple component replacements attempted; integrated thermal management system implicated in one case; root cause not identified

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: No permanent solution provided by manufacturer

Engine Shutdown/Loss of Power While Driving

Engine completely shuts off without warning during normal driving at various speeds and conditions. Multiple occurrences reported per vehicle. Dashboard diagnostics show no codes. Vehicles are able to restart but problem recurs.

When: Early ownership; one vehicle with 8,500 miles, another at 6,000 miles

Symptoms owners cite: Complete engine shutdown while driving; Engine sputtering before shutdown; All dashboard lights illuminating; Grinding noise during shutdown; Poor acceleration after incidents; Engine Off warning message appears; Vehicle shows all systems normal on app despite failures

Repairs/costs cited: No clear solution identified by dealers; shop manager reports multiple cases with no codes appearing

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Low-pressure fuel pump recall mentioned by one owner but dealer refused service due to original ownership requirement

Acceleration Limitation/Restricted Power

Vehicle unable to accelerate normally, with speed limited to 30-40 mph despite full throttle input. Condition temporary; vehicle operates normally after restart. Reported across multiple 2022 GV70s with low mileage.

When: Early ownership; vehicles with under 25,000 miles

Symptoms owners cite: Inability to accelerate past 30-40 mph; Speed restriction despite full gas pedal application; Poor acceleration on freeway; Vehicle feels underpowered; Problem resolves temporarily after shutdown and restart

Unintended Acceleration

Vehicle accelerates suddenly without driver input. Two distinct scenarios reported: one during coasting into a drive-thru, another involving brake hold and auto start-stop interaction.

When: Early ownership

Symptoms owners cite: Rapid unexpected acceleration without foot on gas pedal; Vehicle rocked forward then backward with brake hold enabled; Unexpected acceleration during auto start-stop interaction; Abnormal sound from vehicle during one incident

Repairs/costs cited: One vehicle also had low battery and no coolant in reservoir

Transmission Grinding/Shifting Issues

Transmission produces grinding noise during upshifting and downshifting. Issue persisted even after transmission replacement. Check engine light appeared multiple times with low mileage.

When: From inception; one vehicle with under 6,000 miles

Symptoms owners cite: Horrible grinding sound during upshift; Grinding sound during downshift; Check engine light appearance multiple times; Grinding noise persisted after transmission replacement

Repairs/costs cited: Transmission replaced but grinding sound not completely eliminated

AWD System Failure/Transfer Case Issues

All-wheel drive warning light illuminates intermittently, progressing to constant illumination after 5-10 minutes of driving. When light activates, vehicle disengages all-wheel drive and provides power to rear wheels only. Transfer case replacement required. Multiple owners report same issue with low mileage.

When: Early ownership; one vehicle with under 5,000 miles; occurred within two weeks of owning vehicle

Symptoms owners cite: AWD warning light illuminating on dashboard; Intermittent warning that progresses to constant activation; Light illuminates 5-10 minutes after both hot and cold start; Four-wheel drive system disengages; Power provided to rear wheels only when light activates; Occurs at random driving conditions and speeds

Repairs/costs cited: Transfer case replacement required; parts not yet available on some vehicles

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: No confirmation of safe driving status; dealer acknowledges others with same problem and suggests recall needed

I was on 495 southbound and the car lost power, and almost crashed. I had a recall (low-pressure fuel PumP) but the dealer is not taking me because I am not the original owner of the vehicle, I went to Fitzgerald-Hyundai Genesis Subaru of Gaithersburg, and Mr. Brett Davis turned me out. The coolant system on my 2022 Genesis GV70 has repeatedly failed despite multiple repairs. On April 2, Greenway Genesis diagnosed a coolant leak and replaced several components. The problem returned, and I brought the vehicle back on April 29 because the coolant appeared low again and the engine sounded louder than before. On October 25, Holler Hyundai confirmed another coolant leak, this time…

The engine shut off during driving on October 19th and October 21 2023. The Engine sputters and ceased while in traffic then flashed an "Engine Off!" Warning and made a grinding noise stopping. During the incident on October 21st I was in a heavily trafficked road and lost power at about 20 miles an hour, the resulting engine shut down almost got me rear ended by a vehicle moving much faster.

Started car. Would not accelerate past 30-40 miles an hour even when I pressed the Gas Pedal to the floor. I pulled over and turned the car off. On restart it seems to be fine. The Genesis GV 70 forum is replete with owners having the same issue. This is a 2022 with less than 25,000 miles on the Odometer. There are not many of these cars on the road and probably many owners are unaware that this…
