2005 Cadillac STS owner complaints

This vehicle has pumped through 5-7 quarts of oil appx every 500 miles. I know that this is not normal. Car was overhauled, the trans was basically rebuilt, with new components.problem with oil evaporating at very low mileage still an issue. ***no leaks*** or symptoms aside of diminishing oil every said set of miles. Very frustrating issue that hasn't been resolved. *tr

Went outside to drive the car begin to drive off as I was driving a big ball of smoke came out the tail pipe and sounded as if something broke and the car shut off. The car would not re start. *tr

The contact merged the vehicle to side of the road safely, which was then towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the intake and exhaust manifold needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

S10 appropriate handling- letter to the secretary from constituent re copy of a letter addressed to general motors chief executive officer mary barra regarding the recall of vehicles that can leak oil and catch fire. *smd the consumer stated the technician showed him where burnt oil had leaked through engine gaskets between the crankcase and manifold. The consumer was quoted a price of $ 4,153.00 for the replacement of the gaskets. The price went up, after the repairs were in progress. The consumer was informed additional gaskets were needed. *jb

Twice drive on interstate (possible after rough area on interstate) reduce power light and no engine power atlanta, ga traffic nearly got hit several times trying to get to the side of the interstate. Now three times stop car put in park and engine will not shut off, light says put in park although it is in park or should be. The recall on the drive axle seal, Cadillac would not cover cost, I did pay to have it fixed at hoover, al Cadillac. *tr

I purchased a 2005 sts and had it for 1 year when the transmission went out. It had just passed the 50k warranty. I took it in and had it checked, they told me there was nothing wrong with it. I had to drive with the mechanic and show him what was wrong. I went to the main company and was told there was nothing they could do. I now have an sts sitting in my garage, not able to drive anywhere. I found out the transmission was only 1/2 full from the factory but can not prove it. I am very, very disgusted with the Cadillac company. I could have bought a cheap car that would have out lasted this car by years.. *tr

Without warning my transmission stopped working . I can move the greer with out it collecting any greer . No engine check light nothing . I pulled the parking lot and had to be pushed out street .

Daughter driving on concrete hi-way at 50 MPH., hears noise by passenger side rear tire area. Rear end locks as if brakes were applied but were not. Car slides out-of-control . Her and her passengers are not injured. Had to shift car from forward to reverse 2-3 times, car makes clunk noise, then it frees itself she drives out of ditch. Not sure what happened they drive at lower speed cars rear end locks again for 2-3 seconds then frees itself but makes grinding noises.take to gmac service center told rear differential failed. Found out about recall: NHTSA id # 07v58900. Cadillac rep. Said our cars VIN # is not involved in recall. Found recalled VIN #'s and our cars VIN # is inside the recalled numbers bracket. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Cadillac sts. While driving approximately 55 MPH he heard a clanking noise outside of the vehicle, and then he loss vehicle control. The driver was able to maneuver the vehicle out of a roadside ditch to resume normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician stated the failure was related to the rear passenger side differential. However his vehicle identification number was excluded from recall id number 07v589000 (power train:axle assembly;axle shaft;seal). No repairs were made. The failure and current mileages were 162,000. The vehicle identification number was unavailable.

The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the rear wheel axle pinion seal. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 07v589000 (power train: axle assembly: axle shaft: seal) and denied assistance with any repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 75,000.

B0022 issue has been detected in the air bag deployment system. Passenger seat belt retractor is inoperable and will not retract seat belt when needed. The air bag warning lite shows on dash when start of engine and continuous on .

When I move the driver's seat the "airbag" symbol appears on the dashboard. If I move the seat back and forth , after a few tries, the "airbag" symbol disappears. I was not able to look under the seat, but I have seen a video where somebody had the exact same problem but found burnt wires under the seat. I am wondering if there is a fire hazard. This happened when the car is stationary.

Dt: the contact's wife drove the vehicle to the grocery store. She parked the vehicle and went in the store. When she came out she noticed people were looking over an embankment. She realized then that the car had rolled backward over the embankment. A tow truck came and pulled the vehicle up, and then the car was driven home. The engineer at the dealership checked the vehicle and said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. However the contact felt that the electrical system was faulty. *ak the consumer stated the vehicle has a new keyless ignition system which allows the vehicle to be left in neutral rather than park when the driver exits the vehicle. 2005 Cadillac sts indicator illuminated on the dashboard stating "vehicle speed limited to 80 miles per hour". *ts ***no answer required*** the indicator illuminated two days after the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to identify the cause of the problem because no other trouble codes were triggered. The problem occurred several more times but the last time it happened the vehicle lost power to the engine while attempting to pass another vehicle. The indicator remained on until the consumer pulled over, shut the vehicle off then restarted it. After the vehicle was driven several more miles the light came on again and the vehicle continued to perform erratically. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but they still couldn't find any

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Cadillac sts. During brake application, he experienced unintended vehicle acceleration. As a consequence he crashed into a tree. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, but the technicians could not identify the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.

Letter on behalf of constituent regarding the problem of rapid deceleration when the radar controlled cruise control is engaged. *nj the consumer stated the vehicle suddenly disengages and it immediately slows down. The local dealer was unable to find the problem and suggested replacing the entire system at a cost of $4,300-5,000 dollars. *jb

I have had ongoing problem with this since I bought the car used last august 2012. The passenger side headlamp cover gets a lot of moisture inside. I was going to fix myself so I went to "Cadillac forums" and searched problem. Amazed to find all models of Cadillac and always on passenger side is the moisture problem. Started in 03 model year and last questioned on 08 model year (after that warranty problem so dealer would handle. This is to much to be a coincidence and a recall should be issued. I purchased 2005 Cadillac sts july 2006 and was told that I could add a gm navigation later however now I am finding out that that is not possible. I am told by Cadillac customer service as well as dealership personnel that if the car doesn't come from the factory with navigation,it can't be added. I'm extremely disappointed at learning this information after the fact. *nm

As a result, the front driver's side of the vehicle to dropped to the ground and the contact crashed into a cement wall. The contact sustained a major headache from the impact.
