When starting and/or driving the car for a short time at speeds between 5-45 power steering fails. This has not happened with highway driving yet but I am concerned it will. I am taking car in the nearest Chevy dealer for service. I did receive a notice in the mail in december 2007 regarding problems but was not experiencing the problem at the time and did not keep the notice; soon thereafter I did experience referenced steering problem. *tr

For several months, I have both heard and felt a "creaking" in the front end of my vehicle as though metal parts are loose when the car is put in motion both backing and forward, turns in either direction. I did bring this condition to the attention the local Chevrolet dealership where I bought this car and where I have had it serviced since then. They indicated to me, they could not find a problem, could not hear or feel any condition, and further stated there was "no fix" from gm. However, this condition appears to be getting worse and not recognized by the service people at the dealership. My concern is, at some point, could or will the front end fail when the car is in motion which is a clear safety issue. The dealership did point out that the tires have some wear on them and it is my

Grinding, popping noises come from front end and squeaking noise from rear. You can feel the entire car shift when turning or traveling over bumps in the road. Sounds like the whole body of the car is going to slide off of the chassie. January 2007, dealer replaced steering rack and set toe, hooked chassie ears to the front suspension, and replaced rear sway bar bushings. Vehicle had 26,080 miles on it. 11 months later, now 38,800 miles, same issue. Having to take vehicle back to dealership again and it is no longer under warranty, to have steering and suspension assessed again. Gm needs to assess this problem before someone gets killed in these malibus. Another local dealer states they see this same problem in other malibus, yet no recall. What is gm waiting for? They need to own

I purchased my 2005 Chevy malibu maxx ls as a "program car" thinking it was the next best thing to a new car. I guess I was wrong. Since purchasing the vehicle in april 2006 I have had consistent trouble with my front end. I have had to take it to the dealer for warranty repairs four times! Now at 50,500 miles my front end is acting up again. The last time I had my repairs done I was out of warranty and called gmac and asked for a repurchase. Gmac contacted my dealer and returned a call to me stating that I should try another dealer they could not get anywhere with my current dealer. I was not surprised after being told by the shop leader that"his wife's car did the same thing and that the best thing I could do is drive it till its paid for! I have had it with this car and the service my l

The driver's power seat is broken. It's been slowly starting to tilt back and to the right and finally snapped. In researching this issue, it appears it is very common with the Chevy malibu and also very expensive. This is a huge safety concern as a broken drivers seat will not work as intended in a crash. The seat tilts to the right now and bounces when going over bumps, so being a safety concern it's also very uncomfortable. I think this should be recall situation for the malibu seat and the dealer should not be profiting off a design flaw. *kb

My malibu had a recall for the gear shift cable. Every since it broke, my car key has been stuck in the ignition. This never happened before the gear shift cable broke. When I took my car to be fixed, I assumed since it happened the same time the gear shift cable broke it has to do with the break ! Your Chevrolet dealer who fixed the cable said it wasn't part of the recall.. I'm confused on how it dosen't have to do with the break.. It worked just fine until that break. My key is still stuck in the linkage ! I have complained of this before, but heard nothing.. I don't know if this helps but I do have a case #[xxx]. Please help me with this matter. I don't feel it should be my responsibility to fix this, since it happened at the same time as my gear shift lever.. Not to mention when it bro

Car lost power, steering intact & I steered it to the shoulder of the interstate highway. Anti-theft light was flashing. On jun 4th, all attempts to reset the the system failed (I was waiting ten minutes with key in on position). The car began to flash all lights & a buzzing alarm sounded. By july, the anti theft device was preventing starting or causing the engine to stop on a daily basis. A code indicated a problem with the fuel supply to the injectors & possibly the fuel pump. (the anti theft device works by cutting off the fuel to the injectors). Replaced 2 fuel pumps (all working), had electrical system checked, replaced a defective fuse box, bent plug. The problem occurred intermittently, & was documented by the shop. Today car was disabled by the anti theft device as I tur

I returned from picking up my grand daughter from school which is about 2miles one way. Once at home I turned off my car went inside to get paper work and noticed it was time to get my son from his bus stop, which is right around the corner from my house... As I turned on the car I noticed/smelled smoke inside the car, so I turned it off and got out, I called out to my kids and my daughter told me that I have to pop the hood, I was afraid... So my daughter poped the hood and then we saw the small fire, so my daughter grabbed the water shoes and attempted to put it out and my other daughter called the fire department and then a ball of fire fell to the ground up under the car...then she put that out...so as they were calling the fire department, I had to run around the corner to get my son
