The speedometer on my 2005 Chevy monte carlo registers the wrong speed. While in park, it reads different speeds from negative to 120 MPH. While driving, it does not register correct speed. This is an important safety issue. There are many other monte carlo owners with exact same complaint. Mine began right around 70,000 miles, the same as others. Dealer states it is not recalled or under warranty and will cost $600. To repair. This defect should be recalled before someone gets killed going the wrong speed because of this defect! *tr
I have 2005 monte carlo ss, the speedometer and the fuel gauge have stopped working. They fail when it is cold out and when it is warm they will some times work, however do I know if they are really working. I have read online where a lot of people with the same car are having the same issue. *tr
The speedometer displays the wrong speed. It started with just higher speed and now will display 20-30 MPH when traveling on expressway when going 65. Sometimes the instrument cluster can be reset by turning off and on the ignition to reset. Now even that is not working. I took to dealer today and they want to replace the instrument cluster for over $537 ++. The Chevy dealer I bought the car from is no longer in business. This started around 60k miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet monte carlo. The contact stated that the speedometer failed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or local mechanic for diagnosis of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact was advised that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 75,600.
The whole dash cluster on my 2005 Chevrolet monte carlo does not work. At first the temperature gauge was showing red when my car was perfectly fine, then the speedometer went out (it doesn't even move) followed by the fuel indicator gauge. It hasn't been working for a little over a year now. Its hard to tell when I need to fuel my car up, when it may be running hot, or how fast I'm going. *tr
I own a 2005 monte carlo, at around 50,000 miles began to have problems with instrument cluster. The fuel gauge and the alternator gauge failed. I have also had problems with the windshield wipers not returning to the set position, I do see that there has been service bulletins issued to for this. The instrument cluster has not been addressed by Chevy and I have read many other complaints about this failure from other owners. The fix for this is to replace the entire instrument cluster, this is running between $450 and $650. I think this is a defect that Chevy needs to replace free of charge. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet monte carlo. The speedometer on the instrument control panel displays inaccurate readings. A technician from the dealer stated that the repair would be made at the owners expense. No repairs were made. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The current mileage was 57,664. The failure mileage was 57,654. Updated 01/1410 *bf updated 01/20/10.*jb
Monte carlo has 33,000 miles and speedometer no longer provides accurate reading. Registers 60 MPH at standstill position. Advised speedometer cluster is shot and I need a new one. Appears this is a common problem as mechanic is aware of the problems with the model. Why isn't there a forced recall? Isn't this a hazard? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet monte carlo. While attempting to start the vehicle, the ignition failed to start without warning. The contact stated that the transmission was replaced. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the body control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure was persistent. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
1.)cannot drive with the brights on because it will unexpectedly trigger all lights to fail and you will be driving blind in the complete pitch black night. 2.)the speedometer, gas gauge, and temp gauge haven't worked since about 75,000 miles. I purchased this car brand new and have had it serviced as needed. This is a factory defect, not something that was caused somehow by me. I think that it is ridiculous that I have to deal with these defects with my own money when I specifically purchased a brand new car so I didn't have to deal with problems of the vehicle that one would associate with a used vehicle. The brights issue could literally kill people, I'm sure it probably has.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet monte carlo. The contact stated that while driving at night, the headlights and instrument panel failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
The multi function switch is faulty. My blinkers never work right. Sometimes I have right and no left turn signal and many times the hazard lights turn on when I use turn signal. The turn signal sound of clicking never stops, constant clicking that often starts buzzing. Quite often my turn signals do not function properly and I have no way to alert other drivers that I am switching lanes. It seems to be a common problem with Chevrolet and GMC and expensive to correct.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet monte carlo. While driving 35 MPH, the headlights cut off without warning. The contact stated that the headlights flashed off and on intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 95,400. Updated 02/23/16*lj updated 4/30/18*jb *js

My car has a strong gas odor particularly in colder weather. I noticed it last winter and it went away during the summer. Now that the temps are getting cooler, it has started again. I turn on the heat and have to drive with the windows down for ventilation. I've had three different mechanic shops check it out. None have been able to find the cause. It is embarrassing in the school car rider line or in a drive through. Someone always comments on it. I am worried it may catch fire.
