Tl*the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet silverado. While driving approximately 80 MPH on normal road conditions, the speedometer failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The dealer would repair the failure for free; however, the vehicle was excluded from the free remedy because the mileage exceeded the 70,000 requirement. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 102,400 and current mileage was 106,000. 4/01/09 *nj updated 04/06/09.*jb

The speedometer sticks, works intermittently. Sometimes reads slower than actual speed, sometimes reads faster than actual speed, sometimes doesn't work at all. Sometimes will simply "freeze" and not respond to changes in vehicle speed. *tr

In october 2007 I purchased a used 2005 Chevy silverado 2500 hd pickup from a used car dealer with 38,515 miles on it. After the purchase I discovered the vehicle speedometer sticks and does not work properly. Now the instrument panel gauges also appear to not be showing the proper operating temperatures for the transmission. I have received no help to correct the problem other than to tell me to take it to a dealer and pay $600 to have it repaired. I have put less than 2000 miles on the truck and paid over $37000 for the truck. I don't have any money left to fix it and I think it is a safety risk to my family there must be something that can be done to help since it appears there are many complaints on the internet over this problem. *tr

My 2005 silverado z71 has a loud grinding noise coming from the front differential when it is in 4 wheel drive. This car has been serviced regularly, however I have only had this vehicle in 4wheel drive 5 times since I have owned it(new). The potential repair is in excess of $1000.00, because I have been told that it is in the front transfer case because the noise is not there in 2 wheel drive. Can you please help me. Has this happened to many silverado owners. *tr

Last feb. Purchased a new silverado truck. Gm replaced the transmission at 480 miles. Ever since then I have had a vibration in the rear. I have had the truck to the shop on several occasions. The problem is intermittent and they can't locate the problem whenever I take it in. The problem is most common at speeds of 65-70 MPH. The vibration is so bad that the mirrors rattle. Also lately, I have a different vibration (also intermittently) at slower speeds while going up hills. Dealer also unable to diagnose unless the problem occurs while they have the truck. *jb

In june, 2011, I began noticing my antifreeze levels were dropping slightly. There were no noticeable leaks of antifreeze anywhere. I attributed it to evaporation & added coolant. Over time the truck started using more & more antifreeze. A friend of mine noticed a puff of white smoke coming from the tailpipe. At the time I didn't really think anything of it. Last week while driving home from work after finishing up a "b" trick job (11pm), I noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine. It smoothed out after a few miles of driving it. The next day it happened again ( I work 26 miles from home) again it smoothed out & I was just grateful I got home safely that night. By this time I knew there were some serious issues & decided not to drive it again. I began researching the issue on line

The problem addressed in your NHTSA action number: pe05020 for earlier model years of the same truck are occurring in my 2005 truck. This has LED to near rear-end collisions. The brakes go into an "anti-lock" condition at slow speeds while braking, no matter what the weather or road conditions are. You should extend the model years covered in your earlier recall to include all thru 2005 models and perhaps beyond or issue a new recall based on this and similar complaints from consumers. Obviously gm did not fix the problem in follow on versions of the silverado. *kb

I was driving to the store and when I looker at my speedometer I was doing 110mph and when I came to a stop it displayed 60mph that happened 12/31/08 at 70,000 miles. So far my problems with my 2005 silverado at 20,000 miles I had the steering wheel clump fixed by packing it with grease now the problem is back,at 60,000 miles my fuel pump failed on a road trip after I started to fill hesitation like starving for gas- cost$ 700.00, at 65,000 miles the catalytic converter was plugged up the engine light came on and would blink and would hesitate really bad when you would punch it into passing gear. It didn't cost me anything because of the emission law 70,000 or 7yrs,and it just turned over 70,000. But I still love my truck and I always drive a Chevy. That fuel pump could be fixed easy if t

12/30/2011 190,000 mi Crash ODI #10441810.0

We were traveling down interstate 10 in mobile, al. It was a foggy night and the the road was damp. The truck spun sideways and regained traction heading head on into a concrete barrier. It hit the solid concrete barrier head on at 55 miles per hour. The bumper and frame of the truck was crushed. The concrete barrier was not broken. The airbags on the truck did not deploy. Both the driver and the passenger in the front seats hit their heads on the dash board and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. An airbag deployment should have prevented these hospitalizations. This case is very cut and dry. The truck did not miss any sensors. Due to the fact the airbag didn't deploy onstar was not called. *kb

12/28/2008 38,500 mi Crash ODI #10252956.0

Driving home on the highway the left rear wheel became detached from the axle and hub assembly. The tire and wheel assembly rolled away from the vehicle to the other side of the highway, causing the vehicle to lose traction and crash into the median of the highway and skid to a halt. Completely tore apart the driver side rear suspension and brake assembly as well as considerable body damage to the rear quarter panel, rear bumper, and tow hitch. Vehicle has only light duty use, mostly commuter miles, with good tires, excellent maintenance records, and less than 39,000 , just out of warranty. *tr
