2005 GMC Sierra owner complaints

I was traveling at 35 MPH and approached a stop light. The brakes failed and I went through the red light. I nearly was hit by oncoming traffic. The brake line has a sever leak at a rusted area in the line. *tr

Crash, injury, frontal impact, brakes did not respond quickly enough. Air bags did not deploy. *jb

Around the middle of december 2014 the "service brake system" message appeared on my 2005 GMC 1500 sierra sle. I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was nearly empty. I could not find where the fluid had leaked from so I serviced the reservoir with 12 ounces brake fluid to the full mark. From about december 15, 2014 until 28 december 2014, I lost about 7 ounces of brake fluid. No trace of brake fluid can be found on the driveway. I crawled under the truck and had my wife press the brakes while I looked for a leak. I found the leak near the left rear wheel area on a very corroded bracket. It appears to be a very small hole because the fluid comes out as a fine mist and not a stream. The rigid brake line connects to a flexible brake line at the bracket and there is a lot of rust

Brakes failed to stop vehicle at intersection/stoplight. Brake pedal went to floor and stayed there. Determined that rust through in brake line at driver side of frame, under driver seat, had allowed fluid loss. *tr

The brakes went to the floor and vehicle did not stop, barely avoided a crash. Found pool of brake fluid under truck. Firestone auto charged $675 to replace a rusted out brake line. All other lines are heavily corroded and ready to fail as well. *tr

Complaint on gm exhaust manifold bolt defect, inferior brake/ fuel lines. Mine is a 2005 GMC. Defective exhaust bolts affect 12 million gm trucks from 1999 to 2007. Gm exhaust bolts are to small brittle for securing exhaust manifolds. Bolts snap off causing exhaust leaks. Trucks not passing emissions and dangerous exhaust fumes entering the drivers compartment of the vehicles while driving. I and my family get a carbon monoxide headache when I drive it and have had to pull over to the side of the road feeling like I was going to pass out, open windows and sit until I felt better. I have also had problems getting my truck to pass emissions due to the leaks and the leaks are causing the vehicles to be none epa compliant because of o2 sensor errors resulting in failed emission

Speedometer failed at 68,000 miles. It sticks all the way past 120 MPH. Can't see how fast I'm going, dealer refuses to fix it. Tried three dealers. *tr

Got into vehicle on 12/24/2011. When I started it, I noticed an odometer error. Still not working. *tr

1). Dash light stays on constantly and reads SERVICE AIR BAG. This was checked out at an auto repair shop. If air bag doesn't respond, it could be fatal. 2). Check engine light is always on. Was checked out at an auto repair shop and repaired on 10/19/2021. 3). Right engine exhaust manifold is cracked and leaking exhaust. Was checked out at a muffler repair shop. In time I'm afraid fumes my leak into the truck cab. 4). A brake line ruptured and was repaired on 09/02/2020.

The rear speakers on my 2005 GMC sierra 1500 crew cab quit working and haven't came back on. I have been to different forums and this seems to be a very common occurrence. *tr

Electrical system, all my truck lights dim very low when I roll the windows up or down when driving, when I hit the brakes all lights dim and vot. Drops we have taken it in to the shop a lot for this and still no fix. Service engine light stays on and my temperature gauge doesn't work I took it in and they said this problem is only in alaska and there is no fix. Front diff has been a problem since the day we picked it up the have fixed different things on it. *jb

The speedometer is failing. It works erratically. It eventually goes to zero and stays there until I stop and restart the truck or let it sit overnight.

Truck has been in dealer numerous times for severe noise of power steering pump, loss of brake boost and steering assist at low speeds. Pump was replaced and noised disappeared for just over 2 weeks and started again. Dealer explained that gm is aware of problem, but is only taking calls about the problem from one area code while they try to isolate. Dealer then replaced the steering gear with no correction of problem. At a standstill, turning the steering wheel about 3/4 turn results in complete loss of steering assist and sometimes brake boost, plus excessive pump noise. Dealer is now trying to tell me this is normal. There is a technical bulletin on this problem. Gm has instructed dealers not to replace the power steering pump. Steering intermediate shaft rattles / has excessive slack in it. Have had it repaired under warranty and is now doing it again. Dealer will not fix again without charging. I feel like it is a danger to drive the vehicle. Have found many people with the same problem via the internet. *jb

The brakes , air bag, wheel hubs, lights, alignment, power steering. brakes coming to a stop instantly stops the vehicle. Air bag light comes on. Wheels hubs towed in from top. Light switch will not turn light off when driving. Alignment, steering wheel goes everywhere. Front tire getting wore out . Power steering leaking oil.

Engine exhaust manifold bolts break off on 2 different gm 1 ton trucks. Bad/ failed vehicle emissions and a huge repair bill for both trucks. 85,000 miles on both vehicles.

GMC pickup developed coolant loss. Took in and found that head had cracked. Service bulletin revealed 50% of heads for that year came from one manufacturer and had been prone to cracking. Discovered mine indeed had the suspect head and did have the crack as described. Why didn't GMC issue a recall on these and save me $4,000? *tr

The nuts on the hub caps became so hot, they blew the front driver and passenger side hub caps off. The calipers, rotors and hub caps have been replaced. *jb the consumer was told that eh hub caps were being redesigned to withstand heat. *nm

Dt:the contact stated while driving heard a noise and the vehicle fish tailed in the rear. He immediately pulled over and inspected the vehicle. The tread along the sidewall of the tire on the rear driver's side separated. A black powder substance was on the inside of the damaged tire. There were no obvious road hazards. The vehicle has not been seen by a dealer. Bridgestone dueler at, p265/70r17 . *ak

Four wheel drive functions intermittently. Replaced switch and transfer motor. Every 6 months four wheel drive becomes inoperative often after a highway run. Costs to repair have exceeded $1000. Conversations with other owners of similar vehicles, including silverados, experience similar issues. *tr
