While merging into the fast lane on the highway the car goes into limp mode and I nearly got rear ended by a truck . After precariously making it to the shoulder ( almost got hit by another car )the codes all cleared and car resumes as normal. I take it in to the dealer and he tells me its possibly the throttle body but he is not sure . Looking online I find many xjr's with the same issue and almost fatal consequences due to Jaguar's complete negligence to recall and fix their mistakes. The part is obviously not correctly engineered - they should do something about it before someone gets killed . *tr

Jaguar 2005 xj vdp has experienced many episodes of unintended acceleration during braking to a stop. As brake is applied, the engine throttles up and car cannot be completely stopped. When car is quickly shifted to neutral and braking maintained, the engine revs over 10,000 RPM and the ignition must be cut in order to stop the episode. On one occasion the car could not be stopped at a busy intersection, forcing an urgent lane change and right hand turn to avoid accident. Jaguar has "reprogrammed computer" on car with a reduction in frequency of the episodes for about 6 months, however problem now occurs several times/month. *tr

I was stopped at a red light upon moving forward I heard a loud grinding noise from the rear of the car and lost my transmission. This left me stranded in the middle of a busy intersection at rush hour with no warning fortunately no one crashed in to me. I called police and tow truck. Vehicle was towed to dealership who have replaced differential and rear axles. The preliminary explanation given was that something appears to have broken off that ground up the differential. After completion of repair I was only told that there had been a malfunction. Vehicle is 4 years old with about 44000 mile on it. This should not have happened and I am concerned that this could happen again and that if it had occurred at high speed I might not be here to write this complaint. *tr the consumer stated th
2005 Jaguar xjr goes into limp home mode (reduced performance mode) every once a while and be able to drive 10mph max. Car in the rear might crash for sudden loss of speed. Dealer tried to read OBD code but nothing was detected so no way to fix it. There are many xj owner experiencing same issue. Car will be drivable after restarting engine but dangerous to drive. *tr

Driving at night I noticed that the headlights look out of alignment. The right light was about normal, but the left light was aimed down and to the left of the road ahead. It was difficult to see the highway. I purchased the car new. It's never been in an accident or hit on the front end. It's a long way to a dealer, so I went to an independent mechanic who determined that there is a plastic part broken on the back side of the lights. Replacement cost for parts (have to buy the whole assembly) and labor (bumper has to be removed to get to the light assembly) was almost $1500. I think this should be a recall item since I believe its a defect. It's also strange that the nc inspection does not include headlight alignment. If it lights, it passes. Did not get it fixed, we just don'
The zenon headlights flicker and sometimes go out. Restarting the car solves the problem but it recurs after a few minutes. Several inspections by dealer resulted in no repair as they said they could not make the problem occur. Just after the warranty expired the dealer told me that both headlights needed to be replaced and would not be covered under warranty. I paid to have the lights replaced so that I could drive the car at night again but now after a year the same thing is happening again. I believe this is a serious fault that could easily result in an accident while driving at night. *tr

The brakes in our Jaguar x-type suddenly fail without warning. We have prevented any accidents by quickly grabbing for the emergency brake and this has stopped the car. It is very scary because the failure has happened when approaching intersections. *tr
Dt: the contact complained about brake problem on 2005 Jaguar x type. When applying the brakes the car will not stop. The contact did not recall if the vehicle made any noises prior to braking. She took vehicle to dealer, and they could not or would not do anything. Took two more times, and they have not fixed the problem. Almost had an accident three times. The road was dry all three times. She was concerned about the cold weather . This happened at all speeds. The contact noticed this approximately six months ago. Notified the manufacturer, and they told her if the dealership could not reproduce the problem there was no problem.*ak

With fob remote, sometimes the front doors do not unlock but the rear ones do. Key does not unlock them either. By viewing from outside, the locks are popped out but the doors are still locked. Sometimes it only opens one door. Only way to unlock is to go inside and pop the latch. *kb

Just google "Jaguar throttle body" and see how many problems customers are having. My 2005 xj8lwb with less than 60,000 miles experienced a throttle body failure while traveling on the interstate. I lost power as the engine went to idle speed and an "engine fault" message alerted me that there was a problem. Fortunately, I was able to make it to the shoulder and creep down an exit, where I was able to find a service station. I turned the engine ignition off and waited for 15 seconds and restarted the engine, the fault message was gone and the engine had power again. I was able to make it home without another incident. We all would have been dead if an 18 wheeler was behind us when the engine lost power. Last friday, I had several episodes with the "engine fault" and loss of power, b
