2005 Kia Amanti owner complaints

The contact is concerned about the safety risk since a crash could have occurred. The failure mileage was 52,000.

I have had several incidents where my vehicle accelerated almost causing an accident. I have been to the dealer three times and twice they have replaced the speed sensor. The third time they said they could not duplicate the problem. *tr

Driving on interstate in my 2005 Kia amanti and the car accelerated on it's own. Car speed increased and then just stopped. When I restarted the car, it started but when placed in drive car was completely immobile. Brought it in to Kia of kenner and was told that the throttle needed to be cleaned. Problem fixed, so I thought...next incident was driving and completely lost power in the middle of a busy intersection. Got the car towed to Kia of kenner the said that computer module needs to be replaced..not this problem has not been resolved as of yet.. *tr

For @ 6 months the car jerks when I am driving. When I press the accelerator it will do 2-3 jerks that are strong enough to jerk you forward in your seat. It feels as if the car has forgotten what gear it is in and it is searching to find it. Or you could describe it as though it is not getting fuel where it is needed even when you have had even pressure on the accelerator. This has mainly occurred while doing about 40 MPH going up an incline but it has also occurred on level driving areas while doing around 40 MPH. Most recently the car has been jerking in top gear. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times. Just yesterday I picked it up from the dealer who had it for a whole 7 days!! They were able to recreate the problem but can't figure out what it is because it doesn't register on the obc

I bought my 2005 Kia amanti in oct 2005. On four occasions when going from reverse to drive.....a hesitation took place and the car would not accelerate until the accelerator is pushed all the way down....then the car would accelerate at top speed. If this ever happened in traffic could cause injury or death. Mentioned this situation to the dealer and nothing can be down unless the "so called" hesitation happened at the time when it was in the shop. *nm

The vehicle has had sporadic problems with 'jack rabbiting', when pressing the accelerator pedal. With a light touch to the gas pedal, the jars literally jumps forward. In each case, it takes about three touches to the gas pedal, to get to 'normal driving. It is a fast acceleration, which causes the tires to 'screech' sometimes and the car to jump forward. The second item that started happening is that the car appeared to be stuck in first and would not shift. The car would not accelerate. This has now caused me to also get run over twice, due to not being able to accelerate. Another problem appeared yesterday. I applied the brake and the car would not immediately stop. The engine revved up, not fast, but it was enough to keep the car moving for a short distance, before it stopped

I read about recall on 2007 Kia amanti and the stop lamp switch. It said could make it hard shift from park to gears. I own a 2005 Kia amanti and yesterday afternoon after driving several hours with no problems, I started it out in reverse it was a semi hard shift then put into drive and it was a extremely hard shift. As well the check engine light came on. I also read about a software update that can be done but can not find how to preform the update.

On numerous occasions since I bought car in 2006 ,the car suddenly slows to 10-15 MPH, you get no response from the gas pedal, then suddenly lurches forward at full throttle. Every amanti owner I have spoken with has this issue! A driver could be easily involved in a fatal incident with this issue. This also occurs upon startup when parked. If there is a car in front of you in a parking lot, you would hit it. One owner said he had the control module "flashed" and it solved his problem. Could we please get some action on this? Kia is well aware of the problem. I tell the service advisor about it every time I'm at the dealer. I will file a giant lawsuit if I'm involved in an accident and survive. I'm in on a class action suit if anyone has one going. *tr

Car jerks uncontrollably when proceeding from any stopped position.. The car jerks causing great potential for a fatal accident. It only happens on hotter days.. Ridiculous Kia dealership in thornton, co wants me to only fill the tank up half way to avoid this problem, this car is under full warranty & was only 3 months of use before first reported problem. They call it "vapor lock" which sounds ridiculous.. It isn't vapor lock. *tr

I absolutely love this car. However, I am afraid to drive it most of the time do to intermittent problems with acceleration. At times, when I step down on the gas nothing happens, then all of a sudden the car takes off like a rabbit. On a trip to south dakota, after using the blinker to change lanes, the blinkers went crazy, both on at the same time, then from one side to the other, I couldn't get them to stop and the ESC light was flashing. I pulled over and shut the car off and back on and all was good ,for a few more miles anyway. I had to do this several times on my way home. This was scary as I was 1500 miles from home. The contact had the vehicle repaired five times, but the dealer stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The dealer advised him to disregard the light because the air bags were still working. Air bag light will not go off. Dealer cannot find any reason why. Air bag is fine, must be a bad sensor somewhere, but they cannot find it. *tr

The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 134,029.

The front left wheel cane off. While driving.they said that they can not fix it because the frame is rusty and rotten. This is the second time this has happened same side and wheel. This happened on a city street both times. After they fix it the first time and$ 799.76 , they could have told me what the problem was. Then.the car was in motion..

The steering is locking up or becomes very hard to turn when driving like older days without power steering

Soon after start up, I pulled out of my drive way and proceeded to turn onto the street and I had no power for about 2 seconds, then it goes full out. This has happened 8 or 9 times. I have been very disappointed with the dealer. They are clueless. I have been back 6 times for an airbag light on the dash and it is still on. Headlight went out and had to go back 3 times for that. *jb

Bought this car used in december 2017 and within the first weeks of driving it noticed erratic problems when driving over 40mph. On the highway it has problems frequently with increasing speed when accelerated, especially on an uphill incline, and when I'm stopped/ sitting still, it tries to backfire. If I'm driving the speed limit and have to slow down due to speed limit change or slowed vehicle in front of me, when I try to pick up speed again the rpms won't go up enough to do so; I can be doing 40 MPH and floor the accelerator and RPM stays at 2000 until I the car suddenly decides it wants to drive, then RPM jumps up to around 3200 RPM and the car picks up speed again and rpms drop back to normal at 2500. On uphill inclines, the car starts losing speed without breaking and accelerating
