Steering column locks up when driving. *tr
Many times while driving vehicle power steering would tighten up while driving so could not turn wheel, mainly to left. Took 2005 g6 to dealer numerous times only to be told they could not find a reason for the problem. Finally in december of 2006, son was driving car, going around bend, steering wheel did not turn he wound up being hit by an 18 wheeler. Lucky to be alive. They did not total car, can you believe it, but turned it in 2 months later. Pontiac is very remiss in not recalling this vehicle before someone does get killed. *tr

I have a Pontiac g6 2005 that I have had since april 2005. Starting this year I noticed a rattling sound coming from the steering. I found a tsb (technical service bulletin) about it stating it was a lubrication problem. The problem with this where the lubrication was need you had to take the steering apart to lube it. What? In other words the warrant would not covered this problem because it was a lube problem. Great engineering. Just starting this month (december 2007) I have noticed my steering has been really tight turning at slow speeds, for instance, when leaving my driveway, and increasing in frequency. I stumbled on this website and became curious and found that so many g6 owners have had the same symptoms and needed the same fix. I have a very good question, "your steering giv

Power steering was going out on my car for no good reason, sometimes when I wasn't even turning. Took it to the dealership they said this car has electrical power steering and that at times when power steering is being used too much (example in a u turn and your keeping it in the position for long time) that it can go out and ?should? Return after a few turns or movements. Later they found out they had to reset the steering column (re-synchronized the sensors that were off) car worked fine for 1 week. Then .. . Finally they say that the steering column has to be replaced and its going to cost 700.00. Since I have done that I haven't had any problems since. Now Pontiac is reimbursing for the repair. I do not recommend anyone buying a Pontiac. *tr
I was making a sharp left turn in a parking lot. The car stalled and the steering locked up for a couple of seconds. I saw that the rpms had dropped to zero. Everything came back on and I continued. A very funny and scary few seconds. I see by reading other complaints, this is a problem with the new g6. *jb
A few months ago, I was pulling out of a parking lot and started to brake , but my car was not stopping. I quickly pumped my brakes and then my brakes worked. All my brake lights came on; ABS, BRAKE, TC, Check engine; and car maintenance light all came on. They periodically would go away but would return when it rained, or if the brakes gave out. Brakes have gone out twice, once while driving on freeway. Before this issue, I had taken it to a mechanic as the brake light was on, and the ‘brake fluid’ message was on my dash- the mechanic scanned it and said the BCM was malfunctioning, to take it to the dealership. I knew who bought the car originally off the lot, so I knew the specific dealership it was bought from (gmc dealership). When I called and told them the issue, they said they wil

Newly purchased 2005 Pontiac g6 4 door sedan; have had 4 failures of power steering. Dealer replaced power steering motor; power steering failed again; taken back to dealer, dealer found c0176 sys thermal error, removed and replaced power steering control module; power steering failed again. Dealer now states that 1 tire may be underinflated causing power steering to fail. Dealer unable to explain why power steering fails. Car has had to be towed twice. *jb
I thought it was only my Pontiac g6 that had power steering problems, but it was not. At times when turning the steering wheel to the left, it takes the strength of two men and when I turn it to the right, its so loose a baby can turn it. I even had it brought in to the dealership twice to get it corrected and each time they said they corrected the problem, but never did. *tr

I smelled a very strong odor of gas as I walked up to my car. The check gas cap display came on. I replaced the gas cap and warning is still displayed. The smell of gas has continued to worsen and seems to be coming from the gas tank. It doesn't matter if the car is running or not. I have researched and found many owners of the same year and make car are having the same problem however, nobody has found the exact cause. Suggestions have been to check evaporative solenoid, gaskets, tubing to and from tank. I've done all and the odor continues to worsen. *tr
I purchased my 2005 Pontiac g6 jan. 10, 2005. This car is having issues starting first thing. It will either over start like I held the ignition too long or it will keep trying to start once it has been started. In both cases, the engine will die. I have been notifying the dealership about this issue since the car was less than a month old. Each time, it was brought into the dealership, ran on the computer, and explained to me that there was nothing wrong and the technicians couldn't re-create the issue. I called gmac about the issue and they had their own technician come out. Their technician told me that a certain valve needed to be replaced and once it was fixed, it would solve all issues. Part was installed and to this day, the car still is overstarting. I stated 700 failures because t

I own a 2005 Pontiac g6, and the problem is with the brake switch. The brake lights come on even when I'm not stepping on the brake pedal. This happens on a regular basis, that I can see the reflection of my brake lights coming on while I'm driving. *tr

I own a 2005 Pontiac g-6 with about 60,000 miles . Bought the car used and have only put about 10,000 miles on it. It has a panoramic sunroof that was working fine for about 6 months and all of a sudden gets stuck . My first panel is open.. Wants to work but looks out of line with the other panels. Took it to the dealership and they say that it is "coming apart" and they have to replace it . I don't have an ext warranty so im quoted $1,400 to replace the whole thing. Went to another place they say that same thing, I have to replace it. I am about to get this thing fixed for about $ 800 or so for a used one. Just recently I spent $700.00 replacing my steering column due to power steering failure. I have had the car for less than 1 yr and I have had problem after problem with it ! I hate thi

I have a 2005 Pontiac g6 gm recall # 80317 - the recall does not include my VIN #. My vehicle has every symptom and issue that the recall calls out for but gm/Pontiac will not honor the recall because it does not include my VIN #. Is there anyways that my VIN can be included in the recall? I am a safety hazard as my brake lights dont work, my cruise control doesnt work and when I try to shift the car out of park, I have to apply a lot of force to the brake pedal. All of these are issues that are called out in the recall. *tr thanks aaron slavey
