Heat began blowing only cold air, could not defrost windshield. Was on a trip with two small children. It became very cold and difficult to see; dangerous. Dealership diagnosis is a broken temperature control door actuator. Gm is so far unwilling to aid in repair cost. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet equinox. While driving approximately 55 MPH with the heating system activated, the heating system failed without warning. The vehicle was in the process of being inspected for the failure. The failure and current mileages were 69,986. The VIN was unavailable.
Our car 2006 equinox VIN [xxx] heater failed and defroster then did not work. December 5 my heater on this car failed to work causing dangerous conditions in my car as it was cold and defrost would not function. Window kept fogging over. Noted that there are multiple complaints on line about this. Reported this to Chevy. Part that determines heat vs cool fails, part costs about $38.22, Chevy charged over $1317 to repair as this part is in the dashboard and supposedly difficult to reach!! Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
At 46,000 miles heater blowing out cold air. Can't defrost windows. Problem started december 23, 2010. I have researched the problem and numerous equinox owners are having the same issue. Problem comes from the manufacture. Dealership is charging between $800-$1200. Entire dash board needs to be removed to switch out a plastic part that was placed instead of a metal one. *tr
In oct 2010 the heat stopped working on my 2006 Chevy equinox. At first I thought the problem might have been caused by air getting into the cooling system lines, because the coolant level in the reservoir had gotten a bit low. But adding coolant and trying to "burp" the system didn't fix the problem. Upon searching the web, I discovered that quite a few people had the same no-heat problem with the Chevy equinox and Pontiac torrent (which is the same vehicle platform). It turns out the problem is caused by a small "door" that allows air to flow past the heater core. Apparently this "air temperature blend door" has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor, and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The trouble is... Replacing this little part is not easy. It involves
2006 equinox...heat blows out cold air..cannot defrost windshield which is a safety feature..HVAC fails to blow warm air..HVAC temperature door failed..this is only happening in 2006 equinox..many complaints on the 2006 equinox. *tr
Heater blows cold air in winter in chicago can't see while driving , very dangerous. *tr
A cheap plastic part (air temperature control door ) breaks and you lose all heat and cannot defrost or defog windows, and as such have virtually no visibilty, which in my opinion is a very serious safety concern. *tr
It just got cold in my region and I noticed my heater was not working. It just blows cold air out. I did some research and saw that there were lots of complaints about a heat blend door breaking in this model. The part costs approximately 30 dollars to buy but the associated labor is over $1200 dollars. Chevrolet hasn't recalled this even though it's kind of dangerous to not have a defroster in icy weather. *tr
I have a 2006 Chevrolet equinox and the heater blows cold air causing the windshield to frost up. Took to a Chevrolet dealer and they said that it is a broken heater blend door and it cost me $1598.00 to fix. Chevrolet does not say that this is a safety hazard therefore will no issue a recall. I have been reading about this on other sites and there are some cases of people having to replace the part 4 times in 4 years. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet equinox. While driving approximately 40 MPH, the temperature gauge indicator displayed hot as the engine overheated with a burning odor. All the interior windows became extremely foggy and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. There were no flames visible. In addition, the heater intermittently emitted cold air through the vents. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the heater core and flushed the cooling system. On three separate occasions, the thermostat was replaced. The approximate mileage 89,934
While driving at aprox 45mph the engine just stalled. No warning no sputtering just dead. Both engine lights came on the check engine light and one with the x thru the engine. After aprox 30 seconds it started back up and was fine. This has happened intermittently at different stages of driving and various speeds. On 12/28/11 it happened to us 3 times while out. I am leary of taking it to the dealer close to us as they recently did a brake job that I have had to take back 4 times and am again having symptoms of needing brakes. I have no faith in the dealer. *kb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet equinox. The contact hears excessive noise coming from the rear of the vehicle when driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately five times and they replaced the rear differential twice. Currently, the vehicle is still making the noise. There are no recalls on the vehicle. The fuel system was unknown. The current mileage was 18,300 and failure mileage was 17,080. Updated 4/21/08 *cn updated 04/21/08 *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet equinox. When water made contact with the transmission the vehicle lost power. The contact was unable to accelerate to the normal speed. The dealer confirmed that whenever water entered the transmissions protection shield it caused the vehicles speed to decrease. The dealer will replace the transmission shield. The estimated repair cost was $570.00. The contact is also unable to defrost the windshield since the heater motor failed to operate normally. A complaint regarding the failure was filed with the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated the warranty expired; therefore, they will not assist with the repairs. The failure and the current mileages were 66,537.

(1) on or about 10/27/06, alarm system deactivated itself, interior and exterior lights turned on, doors remained locked. (2) on 11/01/06, alarm system activated itself, doors locked themselves. (3) on 11/27/06, vehicle shuttered and went into 'limp' mode which may have caused damage to the transmission. Onstar and dealer retrieved the following error codes: (I) p1626 - theft deterrent fuel enable signal lost, (ii) c0276 - traction control not allowed (TCM / ABS), (iii) u0100 - lost communications with transmission control module (TCM), (iv) u2105 - lost communication with engine control module (ECM). Between 11/27/06 and 12/21/06, dealer supposedly replaced BCM three times and 3rd new BCM fixed problem. Each new BCM would go to zero (0) and the mileage could not be progr
I am submitting information to report a safety complain in regards to a 2006 Chevy equinox. I have had brakes and brake pedal issues for several months now in both city and highway driving. The issues occur at attempting to stop at stop signs and stop lights. This is the first of any major issue with my vehicle. My issues are break resistance and vibrations. Along with getting my brakes and rotors fixed and/or changed earlier in the year, I started feeling brake vibrations initially. After getting the rotors checked, it happened soon after and "graduated" towards a resistance where I was unable to stop or slow down unless I pumped my breaks repeatedly to release the pedal locking. I recently got my left front speed sensor and hub assembly replaced in hopes it would fix the issue. 3-4 weeks
