While driving down the road the warning lights come on, starting with the seat belt light and followed by the other warning lights, next the gauges all zero out, and then the car shuts off. It has been taken to a couple of Chrysler dealers and to a couple of independent mechanics, but no one could find anything wrong with it. I conducted an internet search for mechanical problems with this year, make, and model of car and found more than a few with the exact same problem and no solution. Chrysler should be held accountable before someone is seriously injured or killed. Its regrettable that it would have to come to something like that for someone to look into these malfunctioning vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle gauges started to spin then all the warning lights illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
Dt: the contact stated while traveling at 50-55 MPH the vehicle stalled. The contact took vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and they determined the problem involved the starter assembly solenoid valve. Repairs were made. However, this did not correct the problem. Currently, the vehicle was not taken back to the dealership for additional repairs. The vehicle is a convertible. *ak
All warning lights come on, gauges on speedometer & tach spin around, fyi: coil had been replaced one year prior.( vehicle then shuts off.) the dealer performed complete inspection of ignition and fuel injection system. No problems found. Removed cylinder again to inspect for any internal failure & internal components are ok. Replaced injector as safety measure. Reassembled, drove and no further engine lite found. I have documentation up until a new transmission was installed on 9/29/14. This is an ongoing prob with exact same concerns and codes either don't showup at the dealer or are not accurate. As of today my car is doing the same things and just spent $2500 for new transmission that I feel it never needed in the first place. I feel the codes are not reading properly. Help !!!

I purchased a 2006 pt cruiser touring edition in september of 2010, less then one month later the car began pouring out oil. Took to a mechanic who stated it was either the crank shaft or cam shaft seals. Called the dealership where car was purchased and they said they would make the repairs. The car was returned within a week with a new head gasket, cam shaft seal and crank shaft seal and since it was right at 62,000 miles a new water pump and timing belt. 1 month later the car was again leaking oil. Car is in shop currently, not sure what they have decided to do with the vehicle. *tr
Starting around nov of 2006 while driving at any speed, the instrument cluster indicator lights turn on; all the gauges go dead I.e. The speedometer, the tachometer, the gas gauge all go to zero. The warning sounds beep constantly. The 2006 pt cruiser will lose power and/or severely hesitates, power steering will fail, the brakes will fail, I have had to use the hand brake one to many times to slow the car down. I have had several near misses with other vehicles on the roads. I curb the car twice, damaging my tires once, so as to not hit other drivers. This has been happening for over a year now. I have taking it massey-yardley where I bought the pt, to have looked at over a dozen maybe even more I have lost count, I have tried to lemon the car, Chrysler stated that there is nothing wrong
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler pt cruiser. The vehicle was parked when the contact noticed oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the technician stated that the crank shaft was leaking. The vehicle was repaired but oil continued to leak. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the technician stated the engine needed to be removed in order to determine if they could diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
I was driving home about 7pm doing about 25mpg when my car shut off, when it shut off it sounded like a quite snap,I tried to start it and it was making like a whirling sound so I stop trying to start it and towed it home and found out it was a broken timing belt. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer several times and was told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The contact eventually took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the 02 sensor needed to be replaced. In addition, the controls that adjusted the front driver's seat would fracture continuously and was replaced twice. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 78,000. The check engine light comes on intermittently. The engine RPM revs up but the transmission does not go into the higher gear. This has resulted in dangerous situations when the car does not accelerate due to failure to go into the higher gear. The integrated power module was replaced. Drove without a problem for a week and then the problem recurred. Suspicion is that it is the transmission module; that there is faulty communication between the engine and transmission modules. Its already cost me over $1200 and no solution in sight. Afraid to take it out on the highway and risk a catastrophe. If Chrysler is not aware of the problem it should be. They should recall all affected pt cruisers, replace the modules and prevent any casualties or injuries.

For all you Chrysler pt cruiser lovers! Problem solved today! Dashboard lights repeatedly go on and off, engine stalling while driving or idling, I have a 2006 and have been plagued with this issue for a few years now. Dealer mechanics are idiots who go for the big ticket items and hope that solves the problem. This problem for me, was caused by a faulty key ignition module, in the steering wheel. Internal parts are loose and fail to keep an electrical connection. A $60-90 retail part. Easily replaced by anyone who can use a torx screwdriver. You will get a new key to start the car with but it does not include a skip anti-theft rf module, so just keep the old key on the chain to open your car doors with. Now, how about Chrysler man up and fix all these including providing new rf keys

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler pt cruiser. The contact received a recall notice for a defective rear window. The notice stated that the rear window may blow out and strike another vehicle. The contact went to the dealer to schedule an appointment for the recall service. The dealer refused to honor the recall because the recalled window was tinted. The dealer that refused to honor the recall was the same dealer that tinted the windows on the vehicle when it was purchased. The manufacturer stated that they would replace the window; however, the contact has to pay for the window repair because of the tinting.
