Vehicle lunges randomly when I am backing up and occasionally when I am going forward. It has been doing it for a while. I had to put both feet on the brake pedal to keep it from hitting a pole. Took it to the dealership and they diagnosed it as being the throttle body. Upon doing research, I saw that it has been a problem with several vehicle of the same make. As for a date when this occurs, it is like I stated before it is random and has been doing it for a while and more frequently. *tr
The car will randomly surge when stopped or at low speeds and beginning to accelerate. It seems like it just wants to go from an even idle to floored sometimes, just momentarily. Could happen when you are getting into or out of a parking space, pulling out of an intersection...doesn't seem to be any particular conditions. Lately has started to shudder at mid speeds (15-40 MPH) and surge ahead as if you were moving the accelerator pedal, even though your foot is stock still. Getting to be a little uneasy having my wife drive the car. *tr
While accelerating from a stop the chain-driven CVT failed. According to 2 technicians that I spoke with the unit requires replacement due to internal damage, at a cost of approximately $6,400. Upon doing research on the make/model/transmission it appears this is not an uncommon occurrence. I realize this vehicle is beyond it's warranty, however, a 5 year old car with 61k miles should not require a $6k repair under any circumstance barring a collision. The vehicle (with a functional transmission) is worth approximately $9k as a trade. Unless I receive a subsidy from Ford or a christmas miracle, this otherwise functional and safe car will be sold for parts/scrap. Shame on Ford for not backing it's products. *tr

The accelerator pedal is unresponsive and the vehicle will move very slowly at first, then unpredictably lunge forward at higher speeds. Occasionally the pedal will immediately respond with rapid acceleration when lightly touched, causing the tires to spin out while taking off from a stop. Altering the way pressure is applied to the accelerator has no effect. This has been happening for over 3 months without any check engine indicators, and only recently when the vehicle had trouble idling did a check engine light come on. The vehicle has been well maintained and lightly driven.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Ford freestyle. The contact was driving approximately 35 MPH when the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the throttle body was repaired at the manufacturers expense. The failure persisted and the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs or diagnosis as the failure persisted sporadically. Over time, the vehicle became inoperable. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that any further repairs would be at the contacts expense. No assistance was offered. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Ford freestyle. While driving 70 MPH, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle went into limp mode. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The throttle body was replaced; however, the failure recurred. Joe machens capital city Ford (located at 807 southwest blvd, jefferson city, mo 65109, (855) 929-5900) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 194,000.
My freestyle started "lunging" or accelerating without any warning. This happens usually when trying to slow down or braking. Fear is that I will not be able to stop or that it will lung when in a parking lot. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Ford freestyle. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated to 40 MPH without warning. The contact would have to restart the vehicle in order for the vehicle to perform normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technicians advised her that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she experienced the same failure one year prior to the recent failure and the vehicle was repaired then for the throttle body. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. The current mileage was approximately 183,000.

Vehicle surges when idling or going slow. Accelerates at times like parking or moving through parking lots or when stopped at stoplights. *kb
When pulling out of my driveway the car would not accelerate, seemed to not have any power. Then when placing my foot on the brake at a stop sign it surged forward. It was really scary and had there been traffic, I would have been hit broad side, as I felt I couldn't control the car. The wrench light came on, and as I drove my son to school, the car continued to either have no power or was surging forward, I called my local dealer where I had just had the CVT transmission replaced in september, and asked to bring it in. They diagnosed it as a throttle body problem, and replaced it. I had asked about this when the transmission was replaced, and they had told me they didn't know about any problems. Oh please!!!!!! I've also had two very dangerous tire blow outs, and after some resea

06 Ford freestyle, 26,000 miles. Bought it new. Drive conservatively. Grinding noise in right rear tire, expect it to be brake since it is when I apply the brake. Have smelled burning smell twice when starting car, don't know why. Engine 'revs' when first started when cold, need to keep foot on brake or it takes off. Took it to dealer once, they couldn't identify problem said bring back if it happens again. That was before the brake grinding noise, which has been in the last few days. Will take to dealer this week. *tr
Rear brakes on my 2006 Ford freestyle limited AWD are failing. I have excessive brake dust and my rear rotors are already grooved and they required replacement. I only have about 20k on this car. *jb

My car began having problems lunging forward while I was stopped at a school zone cross-walk waiting for children to cross. It lunged forward and stopped just inches from hitting 4 children. It terrified me!!!! It happened several times that day and the next day until I could get it in the shop. I was told it needed the throttle body replaced by the Ford mechanics but luckily I got by with just a throttle body cleaning. The car no longer lunges forward. About the same time, the car had problems feeling like it wouldn't get past 2nd gear and it wouldn't accelerate. I still don't know what caused this. A few months later the car started making a strange clicking noise that would get faster when I would accelerate then slower when I would brake. It quit making the noise by the time I
Vehicle will not start. Dealership claimed that the throttle body needs to be replace along with a computer update to a tune of $800+. Various posts have been found on the internet regarding a known defect with this model year's throttle body including a "lunging issue" caused by this failed component. I would like this issue to be investigated and Ford to be responsible for the replacement and remedy of this defective component. *tr
