The Lincoln dealership broke 5 of my 8 spark plugs while trying to change them. I was told that I have to pay since this has happened. This is a known problem with Ford engines. Please reference the following link. Http://www.fordproblems.com/spark-plug-ejected-from-engine.shtml. *tr

engine 6 complaints shown
2006 Lincoln navigator, with just over 100,000 miles on vehicle. Vehicle shut down immediately after giving an engine failed safety mode error on dash. Fortunately my wife was driving in the neighborhood and doing 25 MPH. Muscled it over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. This is about the 4th time this has happened in the 5 years we have owned the vehicle. The other times the vehicle was being driven around 45 MPH on 4 lane highways/roads. We had a 2003 expedition that had the same problem. Ford motor company definitely has a design issue that impacts safety and they do not want it known. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Lincoln navigator. While driving 50 MPH, the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags deployed and flames were noticed under the hood. The vehicle exploded five times. The fire department extinguished the fire and the vehicle was towed. A police report was filed. The cause of the fire was undetermined. The driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries to her face. The current and failure mileages were 32,000.
2006 navigator would keep misfiring even after coils were replaced. Dealer first reports it was a valve. After inspection valve was not the problem but a burnt head was the cause. Head went to outside shop for repair but the shop says now that the problem might be lower in the engine. A new engine is being suggested by the dealer but the warranty company may not pay. Car has 44000 miles currently. *tr
2006 Lincoln navigator. Fail safe mode comes on while driving and shuts vehicle down. This has happened twice and also exact same incident to friend in different state with same 2006 navigator. Decided to report after I called Lincoln and they had record of my call in december 2009 and january 2010 but no record of the work performed to correct the problem or the dangerous incident. It happened again september 23, 2010 after it was supposed to have been fixed by changing a sensor. This is extremely dangerous!! Car shuts down and my wife was almost rear ended at highway speeds. On google search of "Lincoln navigator fail safe mode problems" there are 1380 results. Goes to over 2500 when 2006 is removed. During first "fix" Ford dealership replaced a sensor but the details are not doc
Was driving on the highway and the vehicle went into engine failsafe mode. Was able 2 pull over and turn engine off and restart with no prob. This has happened at least 10 more times since always on acceleration luckily I was not in accidents. Most of the shut offs have been in highway driving conditions at speeds over 55 MPH. After research seems this is hard 2 diagnose but Ford is aware of this issue. Seems as though it's usually the throttle body but can also be the fuel modulator. Other people have been in accidents I'm just lucky I haven't. *tr
suspension 4 complaints shown
Drove the vehicle off road, hit a severe pothole, air ride suspension has constantly failed and Ford has never repaired it. *tr
The suspension on this SUV is extremely dangerous I have replaced the suspension airbags oh rings compressors multiple times and each time it turns cold and I live in arizona the car drops and on able to drive it due to extreme violent shaking to wear the car seems like it's going to roll over something needs to be done with the suspension on this vehicle Lincoln needs to own up to this mistake
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Lincoln navigator. While driving various speeds, the air suspensions malfunctioned. The contact stated that the air suspensions were lowered to the point where the contact could not steer the vehicle or make sharp turns. Allen visual Ford in monroe, georgia was made aware of the failure and replaced the air suspensions, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The motor running boards, the aluminum piece that suppose to hold the running boards to the vehicle, broke off without any warning. How does this happen? I am driving, stop at the light and make a left turn, and all of a sudden I hear these sound like my running board are sliding out. I pull over and the entire running board is hanging out completely away for the vehicle. Luckily there was no other cars beside me. I had to push it back in and drove very slowly so it would not fall back out and hit another car. This is dangerous and could have cause a serious car accident. The running board needs to be checked on all 2006 Lincoln navigators as soon as possible.
cruise control 2 complaints shown
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Lincoln navigator. While driving approximately 65 MPH the "engine fail safe mode" warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. He applied pressure on the accelerator pedal, and received low vehicle power. He pulled to the side of the road and restarted the engine to resume normal vehicle operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The failure was contributed to the engine throttle switch. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. The failure mileage was 57,000. The current mileage was 61,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Accelerator stuck full open when putting in reverse to back out of my carport. My foot was on the brake and the vehicle (2006 navigator) burnt rubber for two feet before I cut the ignition. The dealer checked and found no discrepancy on file or with the vehicle. *tr
tires 2 complaints shown
The rear driver side tire valve core was coming out (almost completely). It was sticking out so far that I was unable to screw tire valve cap on completely. By screwing the valve cap tightly would actually cause the valve core to be pushed in which would allow the air to escape from the tire. I have been told that this is a common problem with the tire valves which have the tire pressure sensor attached to them. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Lincoln navigator. The vehicle has falcon, size p30540r23 tires. While driving 55 MPH, the tread separated from the driver side rear tire. The tire was replaced with a spare. The road conditions were dry. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the sidewall had been punctured, however, the contact disagreed. The current and failure mileages were 13,700. Updated 10/23/07 *tr

Lincoln navigator vehicles equipped with 5.4l engines. The fuel rail cross-over hose may contain weak areas. As a result, the hose may crack, which could cause a fuel odor and/or fuel leak
(1) traction control system failure (4) plus times. (2) brakes began to pulsate, the wheels starts to grip and grind to make a traction adjustment and the engine starts to stall. The traction control system activates during normal driving conditions.(3) dealer service manger reuben fernandez at freeway Lincoln dealership in california has tried to duplicate the condition and has not been successful in doing so. The dealer's service request that I drive the car until the condition worsens before he can fix the problem. The SUV's computer was adjusted and reset. The failure has accrued twice since then. The dealer currently has the SUV and iv'e requested the car be replaced by Ford. *nm
electrical 2 complaints shown
During normal driving conditions, the car gave in rapid succession a number of warnings and the car began to run rough and shift erratically. One related to the stability control system and the other was a "etc engine failsafe mode". After restarting the car the stability control error persisted. The dealer replaced sensor assembly 6l2z*3c187*aa for ~ $1000 for the part and labor + the battery and indicated no other codes were stored relating to the fail safe warning. The fail safe warning returned a few weeks later and the dealer was unable to replicate or capture any codes over a 2 day period. *tr
Fuel gauge says zero miles to empty and will not take any gas more than a few gallons before kicking pump off. Gauge shows it's over heating but if you turn ignition off and turn right back on it resets and is fine. Codes come back saying nothing about fuel or cooling, but only something about speed control in the hub. Sounds like an electrical issue but no where to be found.
