Certain Mercedes-Benz models 2005- 2007 M272 V6 and M273 V8’s have faced or are facing issues regarding the balance sprocket in which drives the camshaft and crankshaft of the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz had made a decision to make certain engine components out of soft metals, when such metals are not adequate in handling the stress of the engine. In particular, in many cases, the balance sprocket was made with inadequate materials and gradually deteriorated to the point in which it could not engage the timing chain and cause camshaft-crankshaft misalignment. I personally did not experience such failure yet but it is more of a concern as this is a common issue , the repair is quite substantial and the failure can damage the engine even more

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Mercedes benz e350. While driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle began jerking violently. The jerking would intensify whenever the accelerator pedal was depressed. The tachometer gauge displayed between 50-70 in the red zone whenever she depressed the accelerator pedal. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle stalled. After approximately 10-15 minutes, the vehicle was able to be restarted and drove normally. The vehicle has been taken to the repair shop on numerous occasions and the contact was informed that the timing belt needed to be replaced. In addition, two head gaskets were blown and also needed to be repaired. The incident occurred twice within 30 days. The first repair only corrected the failure for a few weeks. The contact believes that a recall sho
Driving the vehicle on several occasions on Interstate 66 and the vehicle spontaneously went into limp mode. Now we find out it's a balance shaft issue and is a known problem from Mercedes in the M272 engines for our 2006 E350 4-matic. They evidently used balance shafts with materials that were too soft, resulting in premature wearing of the balance shafts with all of the M272 engines produced during this time having the problem. There was a previous class action lawsuit, which Mercedes settled, however, the consumers were not adequately notified and no recall was ever issued for the cars. Now we have 2nd or 3rd owners having these problems that didn't get a notice and have no idea there is a huge expensive and dangerous problem with their vehicle. On I-66 traffic moves at 70 mph (regular
Gearing mechanism suddenly failed while driving thus causing the vehicle to stall. Was unable to move forward until the car was shut off, restarted and then car moved forward with a very jerky motion situation posed a dangerous hazard to passengers as well as other vehicles in the flow of traffic. *tr
Check engine came on I took it to the dealer, the dealer stated that it was a faulty balance shaft gear and I received a $5000 (five thousand dollars) estimate for repair. I took it to an independent mechanic, he tried to replace the camshaft exhaust but the engine light was still on, he then determined the same problem faulty balance shaft gear... My car is only 74000 miles now, so much for a Mercedes benz car under 100,000 miles..hope this to be a recall. *tr
My check engine light is on so I took it to the mb dealer and they stated that it was a balance sensor located inside the engine and it cost $7000.00 to fix cause the entire engine has to be taken out, my car only has 70,000 miles and I have noticed that many people are complaining about this issue with their mb cars as well. There are hundreds of people complaining about this problem with their benz and therfore there should have been some recall on it by now. *tr

Noticed strong gasoline odor in left rear wheel well after filling the vehicle with fuel. Since the vehicle had just been repaired for an unrelated issue at a local Mercedes dealer, I took it back to them for troubleshooting. They diagnosed the problem as a leak at the seal on the fuel pump in the tank. I researched this issue and found it is a recurring problem for which Mercedes had offered a warranty extension of 15 years. This extension expired for my vehicle in July 2020. Cost to repair was $3,256 as after a 10% discount. I was not informed of this issue or the extended warranty despite having the vehicle serviced at Mercedes dealers multiple times since purchasing it in 2008.
We have felt a strong odor of gasoline, after refueling and we do not know where it is coming from. It is an ongoing odor now, even after a few days. It seems to me like a serious issue when there is fuel involved. *js
Very strong fuel odor present inside and outside vehicle after being driven. Smell prominent at left rear wheel well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, a strong gasoline fuel odor was emitted. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
No child safety locks for the rear seats. The child is able to open the door while the car is at speed. The doors do lock automatically at 9 MPH but you can open the door by pulling the lock up then pulling the door handle open. *nm
When the fuel tank is filled there is a strong smell of fuel under the drivers side rear wheel base and in the passenger compartment with on occasion a small leakage of fuel on the floor. I have searched the internet and found similar problems on several w211 cars. I contacted the dealership on several occasions to repair the problem and they are no help except to say it will cost around $2000 to repair the problem. I did find that there was some correspondence between the NHTSA this year in april concerning this matter but did not know the outcome and Mercedes is not willing to help at this time. Thank you *tr

There was strong gas odor after filling up the car with gas. The rear passenger side would smell of gas until the gas tank reached below approximately 70% levels. After parking in the garage, it smelled as there was a gas leak. This would not occur if the we didn't fill up the gas tank. *tr
After filling gas tank, whiled stopped, there is a strong odor of gasoline evident. The small seems to originate near the rear passenger side. Sometime it's detectable inside the car, but mostly it's readily apparent outside the vehicle. After driving the car for 10-30 miles, the smell goes away. *tr
Very strong gasoline odor inside and outside automobile, strongest after refueling. *tr

Mercedes benz 2006 e350. The steering wheel electrical harness is to short and comes apart disabling all airbags. The dealer says that this is a common problem and that the company won't pay to correct it. The repair is prohibitive at $715.00 this is definitely a safety defect!! *tr
