Upon trying to stop, the brake pedal traveled almost to the floor before the brakes became effective. This happens randomly and has almost caused me to hit other cars when stopping. I reported this to Mitsubishi and told them I thought it should be part of an old 2006 warranty recall but they claimed my vehicle was outside of the 2006 recall, yet it appears to be a common issue with other owners of multiple years of eclipses 2006 and beyond. This is a dangerous braking problem. *tr

The brakes lost pressure and it took a long time for the car to come to a complete stop. As I was moving very slowly at the time and there was no-one in front of me, nothing awful happened. After that, the brakes were fine until it happened again a few months later. Because it was so quick and sporadic I thought that perhaps I was imagining it! Then in 2011 it happened again and I took it to my mechanic but by the time I got to him, the problem had stopped, he couldn't replicate it and couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes. Then on november 30th, 2012 it happened again but this time I couldn't stop at a red traffic light and sailed right through the light coming to a halt eventually in the middle of the intersection. I was extremely lucky that no-one was in front of me and no-

I have owned my car for a year & have had a number of issues. It is scary that a car that is only a year old would have so many problems. My brakes started sqeaking after about three months. I plan on taking it in soon but it if 30 minutes away & trying to fit going to the shop into my schedule is very difficult. *nm

I have had the brake pads on my 2006 eclipse gt replaced twice (I.e. 3rd set of pads). Each time a high pitched squeal begins a month or so after being installed and progressively gets worse. I now have just under 8,000 miles on the car and the third set of pads is beginning to squeal. After replacing the first two sets of pads, Mitsubishi now says that this is a normal condition. I have never had brake pads that squealed constantly. *nm

The top coat, clear coat, of paint has begun to separate from the black paint. This is happening very rapidly and continues to spread over the top of the car. There was a recall for this in late 90's early 2000's for the exact same reason for the exact same color of vehicle.

11/22/2021 ODI #11441368.0

As with the early 2000's recall the paint (Clear coat) on Kalapana Black (Code X13) has started to peel off and Mitsubishi refused to address the issue. My vehicle has less than 75k miles and has been garaged most of its life as it is not a daily driver and I am the only owner. Mitsubishi recalled the earlier years but stopped it I believe in 2002 being the latest year but seems they continued the painting practices.

Re Mitsubishi eclipse, 2006, 8,000+ miles. With no prior signs or odors, rpms fluctuated in 5th gear at 65 MPH reduced to 30 MPH. Vehicle was pulled over and then would not proceed in gear. Taken to dealership and told clutch was worn; parts were replaced. Failure was blamed on driver, but there is reason to believe the clutch was faulty from start. *nm
