Fuel gauge showed 1/4 full and the car stopped with no gas. Filled up from a container brought by my daughter and drove to the gas station to fill up. Tank full and the gauge shows empty with the empty light on and then the ses light also turned on. Took the car to get a reading of the codes and comes out has fuel pump sender unit which controls the fuel gauge. The solution so far is to control the gas using the mile counter. Concerned about the possibility of the pump stop working while driving. 2006 xterra. 44k miles. *tr

I have an 2006 Nissan xterra with 47,402 miles and I filled up and noticed my gas gage showed my tank completely empty!! Of course my ses light came on. I went to the Nissan dealer this morning and they told me that I am out of my warranty and it will cost $500.00-$600.00 to fix. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is h

Fuel sending pump fails to register how much gas is in the tank at any given time. This caused the "service engine soon" light to come on. This is acknowledged defect in other 2006 xterras but I was told that my VIN is not qualified because I have one of the "new pumps" that isn't defective. However, the dealership told me that the pumps is defective and that is why is needs to be replaced. But my VIN doesn't qualify. *tr

My 2006 xterra had the p0463 code come up, with the 'service engine soon' light, and my fuel gauge not properly displaying what is actually in the fuel tank. The fuel gauge will drop to show empty when I fill the tank, other times it will slowly raise up to show full, but it can be all over the place. I use my trip odometer to know where I'm actually at for fuel. If this is a known on going issue with xterra's, then there should be a mandatory recall. Your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. *tr

After filling tank gas tank today (approx. 1/2 full), I noticed that my check engine came on and stayed on. Also, my fuel level gauge did not register that the tank had been filled. I checked the fuel cap several times to make certain the cap was tight - which it was. Consequently, I went to firestone for a diagnostic test and discovered that the fuel-sending unit had malfunctioned. I was informed by the serviceman that the cost for repairs was $388. *tr

The initial incident was failed timing chain tensioner guides. As indicated earlier Nissan knowingly redesigned the parts since the originals were found to wear through, causing the timing chain to rub directly on the metal post of the tensioner and contact the housing cover. During the repair the Nissan service department confirmed the failed radiator coolant contamination addressed in odi NHTSA action number: dp12004. The timing chain and guides were replaced; the radiator was replaced; coolant was flushed; transmission was drained, flushed, and filled. The service department also confirmed Nissan, n.a. Would not offer any amount of repair assistance. Total cost was $2200. The day after the vehicle was repaired it suddenly decelerated from 55mph to 30mph and the RPM's increased to 4k

We noticed a higher pitch noise from the vehicle in august 2013 during all running times (cold start, warm running, etc) in my pregnant wife's car with about 90,000 miles on vehicles (inspected fluids, belts, and engine area without notice to any issues- assumed it was the sub-freezing temperatures ~5-16*f). Regular maintenance has bee conducted on the vehicle since purchase (original owners), had the heater core repaired and vehicle inspected at Nissan dealer in texas in 2011 without knowledge of transmission problems (heater core is leaking again 2yrs later). There was no impact to driving at the time. Figured it would only need a tune-up back from colorado to georgia before finally getting it checked and was diagnosed with transmission and engine coolant cross contamination requiring $4

The vehicle would stall or rather the transmission would not shift mostly out forth to fifth, or even third to forth. The engine seems fine. Pull the transmission dipstick, the fluid is dark and smells burnt. *tr

I recently had my recalled ECM relay replaced after it failed, the very next day my service engine light came on. I found a p0430 code saying that the catalyst efficiency was below threshold on bank 2 (failed catalytic converter). I called the dealer to tell them what trouble code I had found and to see if the ECM failure was related. He said he would look into it and call me back. During that time, I did some research and found sites where people had discussed having the same issue. When the dealer called me back I told him what I had found, it was at this time, he told me that it was a common issue & that he would look into trying to get it covered under warranty even though my mileage was just over the 80,000 mile limit. When he called me back, he said that he was getting resistan

Rear passenger doors keep locking and won't open/unlock at all. OEM parts were used for actuator and other issues, however it has happened again. Very unsafe, as if they jam, we can't exit the vehicle and have to climb to the rear hatch or through the front seats. If there were an accident, it would be detrimental. *tr

Regularly getting faulty tire pressure readings on my 2006 xterra for over a year now (in cold and warm weather, long and short trips). At first, light would flash intermittently, and then stay on for long period until tire was inflated, particularly left front tire. Took it to the dealership several times, but they couldn't tell me what was wrong. On one occasion, I did have nail in the tire, which was repaired. However, for several months now, the light has come on and off and when I check the pressure, all tires were correctly inflated. Finally, the light stayed on, so I went to the dealership, and they finally told me it was a faulty left tire sensor - the price would be $200. I did some research on the internet and found this was been a rather widespread problem across several m

The rear of my '06 xterra bottoms out very easily. This has been a problem since day one. The dealer saw the problem and replaced the rear shocks, but that did not solve the problem. It appears that the leaf springs on the truck are weak (according to many online sources). *tr
