2006 Toyota Scion tC owner complaints

I was driving north on garden state parkway at about 70 MPH in my 06 Scion tc when my moon roof exploded. All windows (including the moon roof) were closed at the time. The moon roof completely failed (falling glass debris) in a half moon shape in the middle front. The wind deflector popped up but was not damaged. Glass blew violently throughout the inside of the car and I almost lost control since traffic was busy tonight. Paint finish on trunk and rear bumper was blasted by the debris. Car is currently sitting at gateway Toyota (toms river, nj).

As my daughter was driving down the freeway, for no apparent reason, the moonroof shattered. This seems to be a reoccurring problem with this particular car. Toyota needs to address this, now! *tr

Loud pop occurred. Upon inspection the wind deflector piece of glass was shattered with no point of impact. No road debris was observed. The glass failed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Scion tc. While driving 63 MPH, the sunroof exploded and glass shattered everywhere. The contact pulled the vehicle over and found no glass remaining on the sunroof. The Toyota dealer stated that pressure may have been the cause for the explosion. Scion had not taken any action and would not send a representative to inspect the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 16,500.

My boyfriend and I were driving my car on a clear, sunny day at highway speeds with the air conditioner running and all windows closed on I-495 in maryland, when we heard a loud pop. Thinking that there was something wrong with the car or the tires I pulled to the side of the road where I then discovered that it was the moon roof wind deflector shattered. Glass was falling in though the cover for the moonroof on our head. We ended up switching places and taking the back roads to the dealership. I called them and let them know what happened and found that they were very accusatory. The trunk handle on my broke off. Scion refuses to accept responsibility for this design defect. My husband glued it down, but my concern is that if the piece breaks off or detaches it could cause damage to another vehicle or injury. Scion representatives said that it isn't a design flaw, but rather user error from failure to open the latch properly. This is not the case, as I am now even more careful now that the latch is glued on. Even now when I am overly cautious to open the latch correctly, it still gets stuck and I'm concerned it will break again. Now that I have had the incident happen, I have seen 4 other scions in various places that have their handle taped up, most likely due to the same reason. I purchased my tc in september of 2010... I notice afterwards that it rattles in the back,loud while going down the road... And it is so annoying. I've tried everything to get it to stop. Also, sitting still with the car not in neutral it makes this loud rattle on the left side close to the gas tank.. What the heck??? *tr

There is a rattle noise coming from the rear left area around the hatch. This problem has been ongoing for years, and just realized many have reported the problem to Toyota online and a few complaints on your site. The rattle occurs when idle on a stop light, or idle somewhere. There appears to be something loose as you can hear a loose object when going over a pot hole or uneven road. The noise is a distraction and almost caused me to have several accidents as I try to identify where the noise is coming from. The noise can be very loud at time. Please make a recall on this issue since this problem appears to be a defect on the way the framing / body of the Scion's was built. *tr

The hatch back trunk handle is very flimsy and made out of plastic. The trunk never opens just by pression the release latch, it also requires to pull on the flimsy latch, which could cause it to break. I have had to already replace it once. I have seen many reports here and online of the same problem with other owners. *tr

This car is constantly burning oil. My oil pressure light never fails to turn on somewhere between 1000-2000 miles after each oil change, and I have to refill to stop the light from coming back on.

The engine cover is cracked, this cover has never been removed for any type of repair. Wondering if the heat of the engine caused it to crack. *tr

Takada recall airbags - was my car affected by this recall?

Car was involved in a head on collision at a speed of 40-50 MPH. The air bags on the vehicle did not deploy when they probably should have. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Scion tc. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the power steering failed without warning. The contact was unable to steer the vehicle and crashed into a guard rail. The contact and the passenger sustained minor injuries and the vehicle was destroyed. There was a police report filed. The insurance company stated that they would not inspect the vehicle to diagnose the cause of failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 68,000.

While driving a 2006 Scion tc on the highway I suddenly lost control of the steering. The car would not respond to the steering and I ended up leaving the road before coming to a stop. After I restarted the vehicle the steering returned to normal. *tr

On my 2006 Scion tc I currently equipped with bridgestone turanza el 400 tire size: 215/45zr17. The problem that I've encountered is the tread is separating from the side walls on both front tires and I can feel that the rear tires are starting to do the same. Fortunately for me I spotted this defect before an incident occurred. Currently the cords are exposed on top of the tires. They almost feel like the tires where recapped and are now separating. I just noticed it today 28 nov 2008 and I'll have to replace the tires tomorrow. I only have approx. 25,000 miles on these specific tires and they are rated for 80,000 miles. Dt: the consumer stated the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are too close together if the contact is not careful in the placement of his feet he will brake and accelerate at the same time. The dealer said it was the design of the vehicle, and there were no other complaints about this problem. *ak updated 12/12/05. *jb

Latch securing rear hatch back rattles - has opened twice. Notified Toyota - claimed they do not have a fix. Hatch constantly rattles whenever road is rough. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Scion tc. While parked, the vehicle accelerated without notice. The vehicle was also moved forward while the brake pedal was depressed. The contact also stated that the throttle became stuck. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who could not diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,300.

I was parked on a corner and heard a loud pop. I was scared and automatically thought something fell on the top of my car. I saw glass falling in the car and outside the car. I got out to look at it and nothing was on or near the car showing that something fell on it. The wind deflector malfunctioned causing it to pop up, while the sunroof was closed, and breaking the side hinges for the sunroof, and shattering the sunroof glass.
