I own a 2006 vw passat 3.6, engine died suddenly after pulling out across a 45mph state route, after engine failed, there was no steering or brakes, had to push car out of traffic with my 2 young sons inside. Young vw, easton pa. Stated the failure as a oil pump bolt that had backed out and sheared off, causing the catastrophic engine failure. After some research I found 58 failure of this type of this same year and engine, at: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3462993-attn-3.6l-owners-has-your-engine-failed , - this is clearly an issue vw was aware of several years ago, as evidenced by the replacement or repair of so many, 58+ engines that I can document, and chooses not to recognize the issue, I believe due to financial reasons as this fix is $3,000 in labor alone. I
I was driving my vw passat 2006 2.0t today with my two children in the car. We stopped for a short break. When I restarted the car, I got the "steering column lock defective" message on the car computer. After I restarted the car a couple of times, the message was gone. When I checked the passat owners forum, I realized this is a very common problem for this car. I decided to inform NHTSA about it. I will see the dealer tomorrow to rectify the problem. *tr
Car is immobilized at this time w/ key stuck in ignition, defective steering wheel appears before this happens. Car was stationary in my drive way, cold weather, first start. It's intermediate & has happened multiple times. Steering has been fixed a few years ago for issues of the same sort. Car has approximately 194,000 on it but the issue is there has been multiple problems, cam (replaced 2 x's; once under warranty other time had to pay out of pocket), turbo, sensors, pvc, steering, converter (out of pocket), rear axle (out of pocket), etc. Have all documents but do not have a way to provide them in this forum. Problems started under certified warranty but continued after. Bought car w/ approximately 23,000 miles on it. Been nothing but a big headache. Car is well taken care of but conti

I am filing a complaint regarding the stalling issues I've experienced on my 2006 Volkswagen passat 3.6l model. The description below is a historical account of the problem and how it progressed to the current state. I first noticed the issue around 8000 miles or so where the key fob would get stuck in the ignition. After reading some posts on vwforum, I worked around the intermittent issue by clicking the gear shift 3 times to disengage the key fob from the ignition. Around 24k mile or so, I noticed the stalling issue immediately after the car was started. This problem was intermittent as well and seemed to occur during extreme weather conditions - cold or hot. At this time, the error 'steering column failure' would register intermittently. Around 60k the problem progressed and

Tl* takata recall. The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen passat. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v079000 (air bags) and stated that the part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The contact was unable to determine when the vehicle would be repaired. The manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Passat. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V834000 (Air Bags) and would like to be removed from the recall distribution list. The local dealer was contacted however, the manufacturer was not.
During mild acceleration the airbag warning light came on for the passenger side airbag, the seat was unoccupied at the time. The dealer unplugged and reconnected the light and reset the waning light. He then ordered a new wiring harness pn 3c0971366de which was installed on 11/26/2014. This part is connected to a part repaired under recall 97u3 pn 5k0998582 on 01/14/2011. I do not trust the air bag system in this car and think there is reason for an investigation. The explanation of the problem was inadequate and other complaints on the internet indicate an on going problem. I was told the probable problem was salt and corrosion but this is not the case. I have the old wiring harness and it is in mint condition. I think the most likely problem is poor contact mating. (the part I

I purchased this car 2 years ago and have have the parking brake fail and break three times. The first time was shortly after the purchase and the car came out of gear in my driveway and began rolling. My 65 yo mom had to stop it and push it up as she was home alone. It turned on another time while I was crossing an intersection and I was almost t-boned. I had it replaced after this incident. In may 2020 the parking brake would not disengage and I needed to have it towed to my mechanic. The brake was stuck on and the computer control unit broke. I paid $2500 to have the unit replaced. In dec 2020 (only 7 months later) the exact thing happened again. I was unable to disengage the parking brake and needed to tow it to my mechanic. The caliper and computer broke again. The cost is similar. T
This vehicle has an electronic parking brake (ebrake) system. The parking brake is set/released by pressing a button on the left side of the dash board. When I came to a stop at home, I pressed the ebrake and the ebrake light started to flash and I was unable to set it. So I disconnected the battery for a few minutes which apparently reset the system and it worked properly again. Then a few days later my wife had the vehicle in town. She got in to leave the market and tried to release the ebrake but it began to flash and she was unable to release it. She called me because she was stuck there and didn't know what to do. I told her to try and disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. She was near a gas station so she borrowed a wrench and did what I told her to do. Again the vehicle res

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.
We have 2006 3.6l vw passat with 55k miles for my daughter. Just recently the oil light came on and the engine seized while driving under 30 MPH. It had been running good and no oil was leaking. This seems to be related to an issue many other passat owners experienced where the oil pump bolt becomes lose and causes a fatal failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while driving during rain weather conditions, the wipers failed to operate without warning. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 06v470000 (wipers/ visibility) but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. In addition, the contact mentioned that the windshield wipers functioned normally when there was no rain weather conditions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.
Dt: the contact complained about a windshield wiper problem. After engaging the windshield wipers into the on position they b worked intermediately based on speed at which the vehicle was traveling. This only occurred when the vehicle was traveling at less than 5 MPH. Once the vehicle reached a speed of more than 5 MPH the windshield wipers worked properly. The contact felt there may be a computer problem with the windshield wiper motor. After inspecting the vehicle the dealership was unable to determine the cause of this problem. The manufacturer said the windshield wipers were designed to work in this manor. No repairs have been made.*ak

Front grill of the vehicle is dented but not damaged. Car works perfectly fine. Just needs slight body work, but other than that, vehicle is operative. It was on highway 91 w near imperial exit and traffic was stop and go. As traffic was picking back up, vehicle in front of me continued to press forward and by the time I hit my breaks, I slightly hit the back of their bumper and dented my grill.
The trunk on my 06 passat won't always stay closed. Nothing in particular precipitated the first event. I have to slam it shut every time and it's becoming harder and harder to close. I was rear-ended in march 2008 and the trunk was replaced. The interesting thing is that I had the exact same problem with the original trunk. The original trunk was not wanting to latch properly and the "replacement" trunk does the exact same thing. It must be something about 06 passat trunks. I did notice that before the trunk had issues closing, it would not automatically open when I pressed the trunk button on the key. Once again, exact same thing happened with both the original trunk and the "replacement" trunk. *tr

When driving my new 06 passat 2.0t at 35 MPH+, w/ passengers (avg. Weights - approx 140 ea.) the car bottoms out, rubbing the road surface, over even moderate bumps & 'swooping' humps in the road. It occurs w/ more severity when encountering bumps during cornering. It started without warning, and was 'moderate' at first, then began to get worse as time went on. I can also hear a 'clicking' sound when the driver window is down, & going over even small, slow speed bumps (<5mph) after several of incidences I took it the local vw dealer in vancouver, wa,. After 3+ visits, no solution. They told me it was fine, they couldn't reproduce either the clicking or bottoming out. I contacted vw usa & filed a complaint with that dick hannah dealership. I was quickly contacted by the service manager who
