Is there a fix? Manufacturer service bulletins

The manufacturer has issued service bulletins covering steering on this vehicle — documented repair instructions, service campaigns, or warranty extensions sent to dealers. A TSB isn't a recall (it's not a free safety remedy), but it's the manufacturer acknowledging the issue and how to fix it.

Service Bulletin B340414 Apr 2021

Diagnosis of Compound Brake System Complaints in M Vehicles: 1. Visible cracks are caused by high thermal stresses during rapid heating and cooling of the brake discs. Braking from high speed with cold brake components (less than 212 degrees F) increases the likelihood of cracks to form.

While sitting there, the battery died. When the shop charged it, the red electric steering lock fault came in the dash and it will not start. I did some online research and found that this is a very common problem…

Electric steering lock indicator light appears and states that if engine turned off it may not restart. So far it has always restarted. The dealer indicated that it may be due to needing a battery replacement, which could cause mixed signals being sent to computer. We replaced the battery, and the light didn't turn on for a couple of days, but now it is coming on again. The car has only. *tr
