While driving last night , I started to feel something hot in the seat, and within a few moments there was a burning smell. I leaned forward and looked back at the seat, and it had a flame coming out of a hole melted in the leather. (left side of the driver's seat) luckily, I was wearing a coat and driving in an area that I could pull over quickly. After I hopped out & turned off the heated seats, it continued to spark as my son and I waited outside in the cold for someone to come pick us up. Could have been a lot worse, but I'm starting to hear that this is not that uncommon of a an occurrence. Thanks! *tr

When driver side seat heater was turned on this month, my wife could smell "burning" material order. She turned it off and reported her problem to me. I took the car out for a test drive, activating the passenger seat heater and noted no odor. I then activated the driver seat and could smell "wire burning order" I left the switch on for another 30 seconds and could feel the seat getting abnormally warm. Turned it off and will not use until trouble shooting completed by BMW service techs, in both instances, we were driving the vehicle.

I was going between 30 and 35 MPH through city streets at roughly 3am on my way back from my commute which is roughly 60 miles. I noticed it started to smell like burning plastic and immediately after smoke was visible coming from hood vents, I parked the car as soon as I could and popped the hood and the heat cover for the hood was on fire along with most other components in the engine bay. My friend immediately called 911 for assistance as I ran and tried to warn neighbors , within 7 minutes the car was completely chard. No maitnance lights were on and nothing seemed to be a problem. The two recalls I never received both would explan this incedent NHTSA campaign number: 17v683000 NHTSA campaign number: 17v676000

The car is equipped with seat heaters. One of the heating elements failed, overheated and burned through the seat surface. In doing research, this appears to be a problem with the vehicles. BMW did do a recall on the x5, but does not show a recall on the x3. On various sites, this issue has occurred many times with owners, some with the vehicle catching on fire. I found complaints on the following sites; carcomplaints.com, bimmerfest.com and arfc.org. Just on carcomplaints, this complaint is shown 23 times; madbury, nh, portland, or, westfield, in, derwood, md, tampa, fl, annapolis, md, louisville, ky, bergenfield, nj, holderness, nh, liberty township, oh, laurel, md, novi, mi, cromwell, ct, prairie village, ks, hillsborough, nc, daly city, ca, alexandria, va, saginaw, tx, bethesda. Turned on driver side seat heater and it burned a hole in the seat at the lower left side of the of the seat upright portion. Immediately turned off when smelled burning and felt extremely hot at lower back. Driver could have been burned. Saw many other complaints online for the exact same issue in the exact same location. This could seriously injure someone especially if it happens while driving in traffic.

Faulty transmission. The gearbox will fail to respond at random times usually in critical life threatening situations such as merging into traffic or avoiding other careless drivers. Can't seem to decide what gear to be in when making quick uphill turns. While downshifting in sd the driver may experience down shifts so rough it seems like you have been rear ended by another driver. Cold temperatures seem to always make the shifting issue worse and the vehicle may red line or not shift at a normal rate.

2007 BMW x3. The six speed automatic transmission shifts poorly at slow speeds going up hills. Vehicle will lunge forward after down shifting to too low of a gear and over rev before up shifting. The gear selection seems inappropriate when going slow speeds. The vehicle has been to the dealer twice to address these problems; however, the present software fix did not rectify the problem. *tr

Right front motor mount bracket bolts sheared off. 3 of the 4 bolts were sheared off, and if the 4th had sheared before we got it to the repair shop this would have caused significant damage. If it had happened while driving this would have absolutely caused an accident. *tr

Burning smell in cabin. Changed cabin air filter without any improvement. Dealer. Oil from valve cover gasket leakage is an issue in this model. Did internet research. Apparently not uncommon at all to have this problem. This is a health hazard-smoke inhalation and also a fire hazard. I contacted BMW corporate office and was told this can happen. No further information given. *tr

Xenon adaptive headlights - the wire inside my xenon adaptive headlights is brittle and the insulation is flaking off. I discovered the problem when I opened one of my headlight assemblies to replace a bulb. Significant amounts of wire insulation have flaked off and exposed copper wiring. I have lots of pictures. I am fortunate that I did not have a short or a fire. This is a safety issue and completely unacceptable. BMW must already know that they have a wiring defect in their cars. BMW replacement headlight assemblies are $2600 plus labor. I am the second owner of this 2007 BMW 328i e92 with 48,000 miles. BMW would not stand behind their product and replace the headlight assemblies.

The BMW 3 series (mine included) identified by chassis designations e90, e91, e92, and e93 (all us models) have a known defect regarding automatic exterior mirror movement when unlocking the vehicle doors using the key fob. The mirror movement occurs regardless of which key fob is presented to unlock doors. A single keyfob unlock process can trigger innumerable exterior mirror positions. The unsuspecting driver who does not check both his/her driver and passenger side mirrors prior to driving the vehicle will be required to set the proper mirror positions while driving or leave them maladjusted until the next stop, impairing their ability to see vehicles adjacent or oncoming vehicles from the rear, including emergency vehicles. BMW has issued a service bulletin regarding this defe
